A fresh graphical look makes the Picross experience more interesting but the anime tie-in isn't newbie friendly.

Combining picross with a relatively obscure anime (and not even using the anime’s name in the title) is a weird choice, but if you’re looking for more picross, you can’t go wrong here. The quality-of-life improvements are good, the Color Picross mode is fun, and having a little bit of story is a nice change of pace, even if the plot doesn’t have much to it.

Picross: Lord of the Nazarick certainly proves to be an odd addition to the Picross canon, but it proves itself worthy through the consistently excellent puzzle design and rewarding gameplay, which is every bit as great as that which has come before. That being said, there are also some notable shortcomings in this release, such as a shoehorned and useless ‘story’ and a notably smaller number of overall puzzles. Despite the Overlord elements, this in some ways feels like a sloppier and lesser release than the remarkably focused entries that preceded it. Fans of Picross that are rabid for more puzzling action can’t go wrong here, but if you’re looking to dip your toes into this series for the first time, we’d recommend you take a look at Picross S3 first.

For me, it was definitely less enjoyable than regular Picross and its charm, polish and relaxing atmosphere. Having this many new puzzles is great though, and it’s not as if the actual concept has changed much. If you’re an Overlord fan, you’ll want to be a Picross fan too, as there doesn’t seem to be anything to experience here that’s not already a part of the show, but you’ll be rewarded with some fun themed puzzles. I don’t think I can speak too badly of anything here but if you’re new to both sides of the crossover, go play a different Picross - you’ll find a more pleasant experience there. If a more involved story mode was included, I could easily recommend this to everyone. Sadly, today it’s not the case.

Picross: Lord of the Nazarick is certainly a great addition to any Picross player that knows and appreciates Overlord. It has a lot of elements from the anime, which can be feel like a relief after three Picross S games that look almost the same. If you don't know or don't like it, you'll probably want to go straight to the point and skip the cutscenes that slow down a bit your need for coloring blank grids and reveal some Pixel Art images.

really liked it. playwise I couldn't see much differences from the "normal" picross games. except random pictures you get to solve forreally liked it. playwise I couldn't see much differences from the "normal" picross games. except random pictures you get to solve for pictures related to the anime and you get to be told a bit of the story of the anime every time you finish a section. made me curious enough to watch it and surprisingly liked it far more than I expected. which in turn made the game more fun to play.
