Overdriven is a very visual SHMUP offering a lot of different modes. Each mode almost feels like a new game. I am not a fan of bullet hell games, they are often too hard. I like shmups series similar to R-type, Gradius and the Parodius series. The arcade mode of this game fits right into my zone, I can choose if I want it easy or hard. Where this game really stands out is all the other modes, you have your typical SUPER HARD mode called MANIC MODE and your BOSS RUSH modes but the COLOR REFLEX modes and the LINE MODE are something new! The color reflex mode is more a puzzle game than a shmup. Change your laser color to match 3 items and blow them out of the way to continue through the level. The LINE MODE is crazy fun, in this mode, you can't let anything past the RED LINE. You must destroy all enemies.
This game really does feel like an evolved form of your standard SHMUP game, keeping all the regular elements while making them fun but also letting you choose if you want it to be easy or hard.
I give this an 8 our of 10, its definitely on the higher end of indie shmups.
Also, the music is really good, a wide mix of styles from rock to classical.… Expand
