Despite these shortcomings, No Umbrellas Allowed offers a unique and engaging experience for players who enjoy narrative-driven sims with a dash of mystery. The atmosphere of the rain-drenched city, the intrigue surrounding the Fixerain, and the act of uncovering hidden value in everyday objects all contribute to a memorable journey.

No Umbrellas Allowed is a great game that is let down by interface issues and performance issues on Nintendo Switch. The font size forced me to play it entirely on the monitor I have on my desk when docked on Nintendo Switch and the constant hitching gave me motion sickness. I hope these can be resolved because No Umbrellas Allowed is a game I recommend, but with big caveats on Switch.

For a game with a lot of narrative weight thrown behind it, the most disappointing element of No Umbrellas Allowed is how much its world yearned for more exploration. Without necessarily increasing the runtime, it would've been nice to see more depth of variety or story-telling beats than the constant presence of the second-hand shop. Characters like Darcy really shine; a few more of them like him would've made a big difference. Still, No Umbrellas Allowed comes recommended for those looking to enjoy an interesting version of dystopian literature and some rock solid shop sim gameplay.
