Perfectly fine so far. I've signed up for the demo and I knew I had to buy it, so I had pre-ordered right after it and it was like going back to Wii age with the online extra and improved graphics. It's incredible how joycons can do what wiimote did on that time.

Nintendo Switch Sports is an amazing follow up to Wii Sports, but it isnt perfect. I believe that the 6 sports have had lots of love and care put into them. Everything feels right. I also feel the game's lack of practice modes is a huge let down.

The online play is fun and match making is quite speedy. Almost all of my matches had no lag. I find it super fun to collect items to customize my mii (but I find the lootbox-like system used to be awful.) And the title system is really funny. Survival bowling is super fun. The addition of friends only rooms with VCs is great.

As it stands, NIntendo Switch Sports is fun, but lacking. But it has potential. Hopefully, Nintendo will continue to update the game to make it more worth it. (But even if they did, shouldnt there have been more worthwhile content in the first place?)

First off, this may not be the best of the Nintendo sports games, but it sure is an enjoyable game. The local compatibility has not changed one bit from previous games, choose a mode, hand out the controllers, and play the game. But where the game truly shines is its online mode. Online mode is essentially lag-free, depending on your internet connection. The only issue I have with online play is that you can only earn cosmetic rewards from the mode, paying at least 3.99 USD each month just to be able to unlock cosmetics. Cosmetics are the most likely reason as to why they wiped Miis out of this title. The new characters allow for cosmetics, unlike the mii characters, which can only use the equipment and clothing that you earn form the gift boxes in the game. Each sport feels fresh, with a new coat of paint, HD graphics, and improvements to previous sports, like bowling, which got split screen up to 4 players at 30 FPS, which feels choppy, so playing bowling like this could impact your chance to win. Each of the new sports are easy to pick up and can be difficultly fun. The only game that has button bindings is soccer, which uses the triggers to run and pass to your teammates. This game is a major improvement from the Wii titles, with its new sports, online functionality, cosmetics and new sports helps justify the games price. Expand

The game is a fun party game. The only letdown is tennis due to the inaccuracy of the swinging. All the people giving the game 0-2 either have nobody to play with or don’t play online. If your alone and can’t play online I can see why it may get boring quick.

Here's a comparison: Wii Sports Resort has 12 sports, which would be sword fighting, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, jet boating, canoeing, cycling and air sports such as sightseeing flights and skydiving.
Nintendo Switch Sports currently has 6 but it should be 7 from autumn.
The 6 sports are volleyball, badminton, bowling, football, chanbara (sword fighting) and tennis and also golf but this will not be added until autumn.
I'm not a big fan of the so-called Sportsmates, which are supposed to be the new Mii characters, for which I immediately grabbed my Mii.
The motion control works surprisingly well I'm honest there were a few minor hiccups but in general it's pretty good but far from perfect.
The online multiplayer is really good for Nintendo, so far it has only had one disconnect and it's also a lot of fun with friends
I almost forgot the price, I thought Nintendo would raise the price back to €60, but I paid €45 for this game (physically) digitally in the eshop, it costs €40, the €5 additional costs probably went for the additional leg strap, but that was also the case Physically 45€ and digitally 40€ is a fair and good price for this game.
Conclusion at the end the majority of this game works well but in my opinion Nintendo Switch Sports is still a long way from Wii Sports Resort, but it is a successful successor

Controls work well enough with Bowling, Soccer , Volleyball and Badminton, but they seem to fall about a bit with Tennis and especially Chambara. I don’t know if Tennis was ever this bad in Wii Sports, but the controls seem to be super sensitive with the kind of swings you make with the Joy con in this; And considering the accuracy isn’t perfect, it can lead to some frustrating moments.

I’m also bringing down the score on the customization because the base items barely give you anything to work with, and the sets only last for a limited time; So if you’re not in the mood to play at a certain time and you miss out, who knows if you’re getting another chance to get the items to lost out on. I kinda wish this game gave you more points for just trying to play; 40 out of 100 feels like a bit of a waste, especially when you spend some time setting up the game and actually playing for 2-3 minutes per match.

    BOTTOM LINE:
    8/10

Despite the quirks with two of the sports titles and the customization being a bit lacking, this game is still a fun title to pick up and play with friends and family. About the only other complaint I have is the $50 price tag still seems a bit steep for a title like this; I’d say this is more worth it at $40. If you haven’t picked up this title yet and if the lack of customizing doesn’t bother you (aside from using Miis) I totally recommend this whenever Nintendo has a small sale on this title.

One thing about getting a higher rank in bowling at least the game starts to only give you goofy bowling 90% of the time...No more normal bowling now you are in a funhouse...

Nintendo Switch Sports sets out re capture the og Wii Sports and I think it does that pretty well.
All the sports are fun and control well just like the Wii version but better in some cases.
Also if your buying this for online well I tried it for a few hours and it was pretty lag free
and fluid but there was some connection issues. Overall this game is pretty fun I think it will
    sell well.

Another problem is that there are no real tutorial or practice mode. There are basic control guides for certain games and hints during loading screens, but no actual explains for game mechanics. I played tennis for days and I didn't know there are spins until I finally saw it on the hints, and some opponents are using moves that I still don't know how. I don't like reading guides outsides of games, but the lack of explanations makes me feel I'm forced to do so.

For me, this is a fun game that I'm going to play for months without getting bored.

The game is nothing compared to Wii Sports and there are a lot of reasons for that. Instead of using Miis the game uses generic avatars which don't work. You could make a Mii look like basically anyone. The new avatars have a lot less options and just doesn't have the same charm of seeing yourself in the game. The other problem was just that Wii sports is better. The sports are much funner to play in Wii Sports. Even in bowling and tennis I feel like the Wii Sports version is slightly better. While the Nintendo Switch Sports games have detailed backgrounds and better graphics Wii sports is more charming and feels more welcoming. The new sports added in the game are not great. Out of six sports three of them are new and only one of the new ones is actually enjoyable. Badminton is the one enjoyable new one. You can think of it as Wii Sports tennis but more fast paced and chaotic. Badminton was the sport that I went back to the most. But it is disappointing that the best sport in the package is basically a slightly modified version of tennis. Volleyball and soccer are the two other new sports and they're horrible. Volleyball asks you to make extremely specific movements to hit the ball. Its also just a very slow game. Not once did I feel like a game of volleyball was different from the last game of volleyball. Soccer is not any better. The game feels like a really slow and bad version of rocket league. The field is way too big and your character is too slow. Sometimes it feels like I have to run a whole mile just to get to the goal. Besides the new games there's bowling, chanbara, and tennis which were all brought back from past Wii Sports games. They all work well and are really fun but without the old Miis and backgrounds playing them in Switch Sports isn't as good as playing them in Wii Sports. Besides just playing the sports alone or with family you can go against friends or random people online. From what I played I didn't have many problems. It's not a perfect online mode but it works. By playing against people online you're able to earn new items you can put on your character to make it look more like yourself. This makes it so then there's something you can actually accomplish by playing online and I'll always have something to do. The online mode is the only thing that Nintendo Switch Sports has over Wii Sports. Overall Nintendo Switch Sports is a fine game. The main question is, was it fun to play with family and friends? The answer to that question is yes of course. Although its obvious that this game is not perfect and feels a bit under-baked. Its annoying to see Nintendo constantly make games that are kind of rushed and don't make their full potential. But I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my time with Nintendo Switch Sports. Chambara is also up there with bowling, and is actually and improvement on the version in Wii sports resort, with different swords you can equip, and it's super tense any time you play it.

The other sports are a complete mixed bag though. Tennis and Bad mitten are both pretty fun, but get old fast, and soccer is super mid.

The sportsmates, while i do like them, really shouldn't have replaced the Miis. They're pretty generic.

But the WORST thing about this game is defiantly the fact that it's another Nintendo game that was half cooked, before being released, and it has "free updates" that is really just the rest of the game

Overall, this game can be enjoyable, but it should've just been a port of Wii sports resort, or Wii sports, and nobody would be complaining

    FULL REVIEW:
I played Wii Sports for likely hundreds of hours as a child. Its five simplistic game modes maintained the same amount of entertainment whether I played it myself or with friends. Part of it’s because I had control over what I was doing in the game due to the Wii controller. Despite Nintendo Switch Sports’s best efforts, it rarely captures the same level of enjoyment. Yes, the joy-cons are sufficient replacements for the Wii controller, but people debated that long before the title’s release. The main area of concern is the gameplay of Switch Sports.

In Wii Sports, players pick between five sports, Baseball, Tennis, Bowling, Golf, and Boxing, or its minigame modes. In Switch Sports, players choose between seven sports: Volleyball, Badminton, Bowling, Soccer, Chambara, Tennis, and Golf. However, there are no minigame modes, and Nintendo added golf eight months after the title’s release when the game it essentially copied included it at launch seventeen years ago. Switch Sports also lacks the charm Wii Sports had with its Mii characters by replacing them with new character models and optional Mii functionality. It’s further differentiated due to Switch Sports’ (almost) always online functions. It’s an unnecessary marketing push towards the title’s online functionality, especially when your goal every few weeks is a new outfit set.

There’s little incentive to keep playing Switch Sports, especially when its chosen sports are anything between uneventful to borderline filler. Tennis, Bowling, and Golf aren’t as intuitive as the title’s predecessor due to the joy con’s higher motion sensitivity. Badminton is almost the same gameplay as tennis, just with a twist, and Volleyball is one of the worst gaming experiences I’ve had because of how little effort is needed to play it. The only worthwhile experiences included in Switch Sports are Chambara and Soccer. Chambara plays much like its predecessor on Wii Sports Resort, meaning it’s also stayed intact after all these years. Soccer, however, includes leg strap functionality, making it a new and exciting experience.

Switch Sports is a pivotal example of lost potential. Nintendo should’ve decided to incorporate the leg strap in every sport it included. Yes, they would have to find new sports where players use their legs, but those game modes are much more interesting than copying what they’ve already done. Using fresh and innovative ideas is why Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are getting a spiritual successor, and developers similarly use new technology. However, Nintendo also dropped the ball on the joy con’s potential shortly after the Switch’s launch. Unfortunately, Nintendo never realized Switch Sports’ potential, even though they could have, making a title that lost relevance a few weeks after its launch.

All the sports have engaging gameplay, especially Bowling and Golf. I especially enjoyed the "twists" put on each game online. However, there is no practical way to progress (besides ranking up). In the original Wii Sports, as your skill rank increased, the opponents you faced became more challenging. However, Switch Sports does not work the same. There are only a few set levels of difficulty, significantly reducing the challenge and replayability of this game. Locking many cosmetics behind an online paywall does not help, either. There are certainly bright spots to this game, but ultimately it is just another example of nostalgia bait that - while the intentions were good, was just another franchise revival. Expand

    3. Bowling: Simple fun, the controls work most of the time, as a classic mode and a special mode with obstacles. 7,5/10
    4. Soccer: I’ve gotta say, the controls work pretty well and the game is decently good. « Shoot to the net » is the only mode that uses the leg straps from what I’ve seen (maybe I’m dumb, but the instructions on screen are way vague for putting the strap). Normally, this sport uses 2 joy-cons. 8/10
    5. Chambarda: First of all, swordplay on wii sports resort had way better controls than this. When I try to hit downward , the game tries to hit diagonally. Chambara has 3 modes: normal, energized saber, dual sabers. They all control the exact same. At least you can get used to it. 6,5/10
    6. Tennis: What can I say, it’s tennis like it’s always been. 7,5/10

I’m going to honest: This is a barebones package. Only 6 sports for 60 Canadian dollars!? (40 US dollars). The original wii sports only had 5 sports, but at least it came bundled with the wii. Hell, wii sports resort had 12 sports. I’ve gotta say, the environments in during the sports are really cool (especially the bowling one). I haven’t tried the online mode but apparently it’s pretty but it seems that you need a Nintendo switch online subscription to play.
Ps: Golf is coming through an update during the fall ( Is there like 2 people working on this game?)

In conclusion, it’s a fun game but don’t you dare buy this at full price. Wait until it cost around 20$. Finally, I give this game a 6/10 overall (okay, almost mediocre)

Again is actually good. There's actual customization but its presentation leaves much to be desired.
    - Tennis
This one isn't horrible either, Feels like a straight remake of the original with slightly better controls. Main issue is a lack of support for singles
    - Bowling
Feels unfinished. Many mechanics from previous titles are missing and getting a strike or spare just feels emotionless.
    - Soccer
Terribly unpolished. It just fails to be interesting and the leg strap is worthless and contributes nothing to the main game
    - Volleyball
Sucks to control, somehow terribly unresponsive and overall just not fun.

The game's presentation has a good amount of attention to detail but the lack of customization (most of it is locked behind NSO) and the disappointing soundtrack and audio mixing, combined with the ugly ui its just not good,

6/10, leaves a lot to be desired due to its unfinished and incomplete state.

Game itself isn't bad but it's a shell of its WII predecessor. If you're a WII Sports or Resort player, you'll find yourself disappointed. Without the use of a sensor, your range of motion is drastically limited. For $40, you're barely getting anything. If you're looking for a fun Switch party game, your money can be better spent elsewhere.

Soccer has iffy controls and poor gameplay
Needs many more modes of play for global multiplayer
Potential to get repetitive strain injuries if not careful

Simply not worth the asking price right now, games are bare bones and haven't really improved and the only new improved features are better multiplayer options, although that comes with its own issues. Currently comes with 6 sports so I'll review them each. Also due to the nature of this game, I highly suggest you do warm up exercises prior to playing otherwise you could suffer from repetitive strain injury.

If this released with Golf and Baseball at launch, it possibly would have scored higher. A big issue for multiplayer is its lacking options, modes and overall content. Bowling for instance is just elimination match and nothing else, which is severely limited by atrocious mechanics that players who discover it can bowl 300 games pretty much consistently and if you don't know the trick, you get eliminated pretty quickly.

After playing quite a bit of bowling and getting unlocking pro league, I started to notice a trend with people getting constant strikes, during the cut scene showing other players I noticed a few odd things such as one person bowing and the ball never touched the ground, and others essentially throwing the ball from the waist...the animations looked quite odd and SUS, this is entirely possible due to modded switches running homebrew and something like EdiZon.

    Bowling

Easily the best game in the set offline, although has still has some serious problems and online you'll face players who get constantly score perfect games due to poor and exploitable mechanics, the mechanics are very very very very predictable and once you find the method you can get strike after strike until you start to suffer repetitive strain in your muscles.

    Volleyball

I was actually unable to play this game due to the fact my height plus low ceiling, this game requires a significant amount of space above you to be able to play properly, without that you could actually hurt yourself or damage your ceiling.

    Tennis

The second best game in the pack, although doesn't seem as fun as Wii Sports Tennis though with limited options, needs more options such as the ability to play solo 1 v 1, everything seems to be 2 v 2 with a clone of yourself in front, the pattern the AI does is quite predictable until you turn up the difficulty then it becomes brutally punishing for the player just to keep up.

    Badminton

Same as tennis, just much harder to play.

    Soccer

Not sure why this exists, the control method is iffy at best and its just really uninspired 1 v 1 offline, poor controls makes it a less enjoyable, with the leg strap it unlocks a special mode unfortunately this requires a significant amount of space between you and your TV, if you have a small apartment or bedroom then forget it.

    Chambara

This is interesting 1 v 1 fighting game that isn't too bad, controls are fluid enough and at higher difficulties provides a good challenge and a work out.

The ball sometimes crosses the floor of the field and then appears in a completely different place. You can't play football with four people on the same console, chambara. No boxing, no archery. This version is a pathetic parody of previous games in the series. Expand

How lazy do you want to get? Nintendo: yesssssss

If Super Mario 3D All-stars didn't exist, I'd classify this game as the biggest cash-grab in Nintendo's history (which says a lot). You've got six games and one coming later. Of every game there is just the bare minimum and, except maybe for soccer, they've all been done better before by Nintendo themselves. If you compare it to Wii

If you compare it to Wii Sports or, much better, Wii Sports Resort, this game falls short in every. single. category. Except maybe for the online Leagues but considering Nintendo's netcode feels older than the Internet itself, this is only a drop in the ocean. Even the Joy-Cons feel inferior to the Wii Remote. At least the latter could be re-calibrated mid-game which they somehow forgot here.

It's overall evident that no competent designer of ANY capacity was involved in development of Switch Sports. I've rarely seen worse and less functional UI (except for maybe ubisoft's STEEP). It's overall a mediocre experience that perfectly encapsulates current day Nintendo's philosophy: don't work smart OR hard. Just don't work at all.

Switch sports is barebones, lacks innovation and somehow ends up a lesser game than its predecessors. There's fun to be had in party-settings but the big feature (online) gets grindy very quickly.

Volleyball is very jarring, badmitton is dull and simple, bowling battle-royale style is tedious with a tiny margin for error, soccer is actually the most fun, chumbara (swordfighting) feels very imprecise and tennis...is just wrong. 2V2 is unfair when you don't match with another player (meaning you have to control both players) but the other team has two independent players.

Unlocking cosmetics feels like a grind, and its pointless if every player is choosing from a very small subset of options. You only get slightly more points for winning than losing, so the easiest way to earn points is to lose. There's also no payout if a player leaves a match.

Switch Sports is definitely going to need more than just Golf being added to stay on my shelf. Not being able to earn cosmetics without Switch online kills the single player and makes Switch Sports seem like a way to sell NSO subscriptions.

Disappointment. The game is not bad in itself, but this habit of selling games without content, only based on promises is annoying. I don't care you add sports in six months, I bought my game NOW. And how it is possible to sell, 13 years after Wii Sports Resort, a game that has LESS content? Tennis is as bad as it was in the first Wii Sports, new sports aren't great, and bowling, again,Disappointment. This feels like something that should have been included with a Switch Online sub as a free signup bonus. There is no excuse for this costing money period let alone 50.00 for a retail copy. Credits to unlock cosmetics can only be earned when playing global online and rather letting you choose from a storehouse of cosmetics Nintendo drip feeds you a couple of sets per week with the individual rewards meted out roulette style.

There are no challenge modes, no offline scoreboards, and you can't earn unlockables for playing online against friends. Yet another example of Nintendo releasing a product that barely approaches half finished.

Content lacking, games don't last long enough to be of any fun other than bowling. Pretty big let down across the board for this game, definitely not worth $40

To the surprise of nobody released another unfinished lazy excuse of a game early and it costs 40 whole dollars. The gameplay in general isn’t awful just extremely average and disappointing when compared to its predecessors. It’s agonizing slow and is ungodly boring. I like how this game has only 6 minigames which is half the amount they had all the way back in 2009. This has to just come down to flat out laziness from the devs. They expect me to wait 6 months for golf when I can just play it on resort or the original and probably have way more fun. Half the games are just tennis with very minor tweaks that ultimately make them less fun. Never ever considered playing this game by yourself as it sucks out what little enjoyment was in the game and turns it into unplayable, unentertaining, mindless snooze fests. Badminton is easily the worst of the bunch as it’s just nothing but pointless rallys for seemingly forever. Nintendo has seemed to have just forgotten what made the older games so much fun. I mean it’s missing the 2 best sports being Basketball and Baseball. And instead of adding more to these already great minigames they instead make Tennis 3 times. The music is actually quiet catchy harkening back to the great tracks from Resort and Wii. But it still can’t save the boring gameplay that is seen in most of the sports. Nintendo Switch Sports turned out to be another barebones unfinished cashgrab to poke at everyone’s nostalgia. Expand

Nintendo Switch Sports is by far not a very ambitious approach to a sequel. I am actually fine with that because I was longing for a pick-up-and-play game to enjoy on the couch with friends. Sadly the experience is tainted by an unnecessary limited progression system that is locked behind the Nintendo Switch Online service.

The games themselves are a mixed bag. As you can read from the other reviews here. Everyone has a different opinion on each sport. Some like the volleyball a lot while others see it as sluggish and thus unplayable. I certainly like all of them a bit which is fine by my book.

Especially the fact that every player, no matter the experience, can get into the games quickly is an important factor.

But I cannot, with emphasis, support the decision they made with the online multiplayer progression. Nintendo wants you to subscribe to their crappy online service pretty conspicuously by locking the entire progression - yes, that means every cosmetic and level up - behind this paywall. You not only need to pay for it, you also need to play it online, so basically any match you play with your mates in the same room means nothing in terms of progression. Keep that in mind! Knowing this would have affected my decision to buy this game.

Even better - Nintendo themselves realized that this system is beyond crooked and released a day one patch that allows you to unlock two items per week by playing against bots - alone, which again defeats the purpose of players like myself who just want to spend an awful lot of money for a game to play in social gatherings. I never expected by all means Nintendo to fail so utterly on their core approach to video games.

So, all in all - the core game is still fun with friends but I just can't ignore the feeling that I am missing out when I'm not playing online. I despise feeling forced to spend money in games that I already payed 50€ for, be it for battle passes, season passes, online membership, cosmetics or any other shenanigans the developers can come up with these days.

Nintendo Switch Sports has brought back everything we loved about Wii Sports and given it a refresh fit for 2022. Old favourites like tennis and bowling are back, while new games have also been added to the mix including badminton and football. This game is really fun to play.

Playing the tennis and bowling game modes don’t exactly bring anything particularly new to the table, but it’s hard not to let muscle memory kick in after an extended period away. Volleyball and badminton also make for a grand entrance that are suitable additions to a bag filled with varied game modes.

Playing by myself for an extended period of time was boring and monotonous, and the absence of certain single-player modes is a major oversight. But Nintendo Switch Sports is a fantastic multiplayer game that, for the most part, invites anyone and everyone to pick up a controller and flail their limbs about. It has its issues, but they fall away when you have other people to play with and are joyously going toe-to-toe in virtual sports. As with the original Wii Sports, Nintendo Switch Sports finds beauty and fun in simplicity. And bowling is great. Better than real-life bowling.
