Idk what's up with bad reviews, This game is fantastic, played with my sister and it was hella fun with just two people, now imagine four people? It be a party lol, I did'nt even play online cuz I don't have nintendo subscription and it was still soo much fun. Thinking of getting online now, To each their own.

I feel as if the change on appearance has severely effected the people’s opinion on this game. Yes, that SUUUUCKS! But the game is REALLY fun! The gameplay is smooth, the online makes this game so much more enjoyable then previous entries simply because you’re facing real people. I am personally very pissed with the update thing AGAIN. But still, this game is just so much fun.

Me and my big family love it because it has up to four players and way more diverse outfits than Wii Sports and Wii Sports resort. But I can't make it a 10 because of the lack and games, mini games, and rolling to bowling ball backwards and the people in the back cheering. In conclusion I love this game but there are some changes that could be made. Like golf this fall

I like how this game has only 6 minigames which is half the amount they had all the way back in 2009. This has to just come down to flat out laziness from the devs. They expect me to wait 6 months for golf when I can just play it on resort or the original and probably have way more fun. Half the games are just tennis with very minor tweaks that ultimately make them less fun. Never ever considered playing this game by yourself as it sucks out what little enjoyment was in the game and turns it into unplayable, unentertaining, mindless snooze fests. Badminton is easily the worst of the bunch as it’s just nothing but pointless rallys for seemingly forever. Nintendo has seemed to have just forgotten what made the older games so much fun. I mean it’s missing the 2 best sports being Basketball and Baseball. And instead of adding more to these already great minigames they instead make Tennis 3 times. The music is actually quiet catchy harkening back to the great tracks from Resort and Wii. But it still can’t save the boring gameplay that is seen in most of the sports. Nintendo Switch Sports turned out to be another barebones unfinished cashgrab to poke at everyone’s nostalgia. Expand

Unlocking cosmetics feels like a grind, and its pointless if every player is choosing from a very small subset of options. You only get slightly more points for winning than losing, so the easiest way to earn points is to lose. There's also no payout if a player leaves a match.

Switch Sports is definitely going to need more than just Golf being added to stay on my shelf. Not being able to earn cosmetics without Switch online kills the single player and makes Switch Sports seem like a way to sell NSO subscriptions.

Nintendo Switch Sports is by far not a very ambitious approach to a sequel. I am actually fine with that because I was longing for a pick-up-and-play game to enjoy on the couch with friends. Sadly the experience is tainted by an unnecessary limited progression system that is locked behind the Nintendo Switch Online service.

The games themselves are a mixed bag. As you can read from the other reviews here. Everyone has a different opinion on each sport. Some like the volleyball a lot while others see it as sluggish and thus unplayable. I certainly like all of them a bit which is fine by my book.

Especially the fact that every player, no matter the experience, can get into the games quickly is an important factor.

But I cannot, with emphasis, support the decision they made with the online multiplayer progression. Nintendo wants you to subscribe to their crappy online service pretty conspicuously by locking the entire progression - yes, that means every cosmetic and level up - behind this paywall. You not only need to pay for it, you also need to play it online, so basically any match you play with your mates in the same room means nothing in terms of progression. Keep that in mind! Knowing this would have affected my decision to buy this game.

Even better - Nintendo themselves realized that this system is beyond crooked and released a day one patch that allows you to unlock two items per week by playing against bots - alone, which again defeats the purpose of players like myself who just want to spend an awful lot of money for a game to play in social gatherings. I never expected by all means Nintendo to fail so utterly on their core approach to video games.

So, all in all - the core game is still fun with friends but I just can't ignore the feeling that I am missing out when I'm not playing online. I despise feeling forced to spend money in games that I already payed 50€ for, be it for battle passes, season passes, online membership, cosmetics or any other shenanigans the developers can come up with these days.

One thing about getting a higher rank in bowling at least the game starts to only give you goofy bowling 90% of the time...No more normal bowling now you are in a funhouse...

Obvious new sports will be released as paid DLC at a later date such as golf in Autumn 2022+
Soccer has iffy controls and poor gameplay
Needs many more modes of play for global multiplayer
Potential to get repetitive strain injuries if not careful

Simply not worth the asking price right now, games are bare bones and haven't really improved and the only new improved features are better multiplayer options, although that comes with its own issues. Currently comes with 6 sports so I'll review them each. Also due to the nature of this game, I highly suggest you do warm up exercises prior to playing otherwise you could suffer from repetitive strain injury.

If this released with Golf and Baseball at launch, it possibly would have scored higher. A big issue for multiplayer is its lacking options, modes and overall content. Bowling for instance is just elimination match and nothing else, which is severely limited by atrocious mechanics that players who discover it can bowl 300 games pretty much consistently and if you don't know the trick, you get eliminated pretty quickly.

After playing quite a bit of bowling and getting unlocking pro league, I started to notice a trend with people getting constant strikes, during the cut scene showing other players I noticed a few odd things such as one person bowing and the ball never touched the ground, and others essentially throwing the ball from the waist...the animations looked quite odd and SUS, this is entirely possible due to modded switches running homebrew and something like EdiZon.

    Bowling

Easily the best game in the set offline, although has still has some serious problems and online you'll face players who get constantly score perfect games due to poor and exploitable mechanics, the mechanics are very very very very predictable and once you find the method you can get strike after strike until you start to suffer repetitive strain in your muscles.

    Volleyball

I was actually unable to play this game due to the fact my height plus low ceiling, this game requires a significant amount of space above you to be able to play properly, without that you could actually hurt yourself or damage your ceiling.

    Tennis

The second best game in the pack, although doesn't seem as fun as Wii Sports Tennis though with limited options, needs more options such as the ability to play solo 1 v 1, everything seems to be 2 v 2 with a clone of yourself in front, the pattern the AI does is quite predictable until you turn up the difficulty then it becomes brutally punishing for the player just to keep up.

    Badminton

Same as tennis, just much harder to play.

    Soccer

Not sure why this exists, the control method is iffy at best and its just really uninspired 1 v 1 offline, poor controls makes it a less enjoyable, with the leg strap it unlocks a special mode unfortunately this requires a significant amount of space between you and your TV, if you have a small apartment or bedroom then forget it.

    Chambara

This is interesting 1 v 1 fighting game that isn't too bad, controls are fluid enough and at higher difficulties provides a good challenge and a work out.

    3. Bowling: Simple fun, the controls work most of the time, as a classic mode and a special mode with obstacles. 7,5/10
    4. Soccer: I’ve gotta say, the controls work pretty well and the game is decently good. « Shoot to the net » is the only mode that uses the leg straps from what I’ve seen (maybe I’m dumb, but the instructions on screen are way vague for putting the strap). Normally, this sport uses 2 joy-cons. 8/10
    5. Chambarda: First of all, swordplay on wii sports resort had way better controls than this. When I try to hit downward , the game tries to hit diagonally. Chambara has 3 modes: normal, energized saber, dual sabers. They all control the exact same. At least you can get used to it. 6,5/10
    6. Tennis: What can I say, it’s tennis like it’s always been. 7,5/10

I’m going to honest: This is a barebones package. Only 6 sports for 60 Canadian dollars!? (40 US dollars). The original wii sports only had 5 sports, but at least it came bundled with the wii. Hell, wii sports resort had 12 sports. I’ve gotta say, the environments in during the sports are really cool (especially the bowling one). I haven’t tried the online mode but apparently it’s pretty but it seems that you need a Nintendo switch online subscription to play.
Ps: Golf is coming through an update during the fall ( Is there like 2 people working on this game?)

In conclusion, it’s a fun game but don’t you dare buy this at full price. Wait until it cost around 20$. Finally, I give this game a 6/10 overall (okay, almost mediocre)

Yes I know you can play as miis, but they aren’t the central focus and don’t even look good here. There are only half the amount of sports that were in Resort, and three of them, being Tennis, Badminton and Volleyball, play the same way, which is pure laziness. None of the sports are fun here, and you can’t even throw the bowling ball backwards anymore. The hub world of this game is no longer Wuhu Island and is now this google headquarters type of area with no soul whatsoever. The designs of everything in this game are horrendous and ugly in every way! The soundtrack is okay and that is probably the only good thing I can say about this game. The controls and physics are pretty awful. The worst part of this game however is the finish it later approach like they’ve used before. They released the game and don’t even have all their sports ready! We have to wait until the fall to play golf which is absolute stupidity! Wii Sports and Resort are two of the most nostalgic Wii games which I loved, but this is like a generic third party off-brand version of Nintendo’s own game. All the charm and soul of the series is gone here. Only a company like modern Nintendo can manage to pull this off, and even at 40 bucks, this game is not worth it! Expand

I was rolling a perfect 300 game of bowling online and I had a prompt pop up on my screen and made me run out of time for a whole turn and ruined my perfect game. Literally for no reason.

All the games are poorly made, the bowling is no where near the amount of fun that Wii Sports was. 3 of the modes are dreadfully boring. Badminton, Sword fighting and tennis. There is no golf or baseball

The unlockables are easy to get (if you're good), the cosmetics looks awesome, the online works well a fun game to play with your friends, family, and strangers online! Spocco square is a charming place, people who dont have switch online can play try to get cosmetics against cpus in the online mode, You can play with another player to face off the other players (one person with switch online is needed to play online with another player)

The bad:Can't put hats, glasses and masks on the miis, it doesnt take place in Wuhu island, The people who dont have switch online can only get 2 cosmetics a week, the Miis aren't the main focuss, we can't block when we're stun in chambara, Tennis and Badminton have their differences but they feels a bit the same, Nintendo is using the "fix it later" approach with this game, Golf will be avaible in Auntumn. Only 6 sports avaible at launch while Wii sport resort had 12. No 100 pin mode (this mode is a bit overrated anyway but still sad its not in the game), Spocco square isnt open world so you can't walk to the sport facility and play the sport.

Conclusion:The game is awesome, i enjoy playing voleyball with my little brother, We should give time to the game, and maybe it won't be that bad month later, Its not bad as a certain Mario sport game that revolve around tenis that didnt included a stadium select screen. Overall i give this game a 8 because its fun to play but they should put more stuff in it! (i respect the opinion of others who don't like the game)

That's pathetic. The lazy developers can't even give us golf at launch. This is clearly an unfinished product. I paid $50 for this garbage, so I demand they give me golf as soon as possible. The running animations in soccer are cringeworthy.

The physics are beyond horrible. When I first played badminton, I was distracted by how awful the birdie physics were, it cost me the game. The birdie bounces like a rubber ball. The soccer ball feels like a beach ball. I understand that this game is an arcade sports game, but that doesn't mean they have to utterly defy the law of physics. If the developers are going to make a sports game with completely inaccurate physics, then they should create their own fictional sports like Quidditch. Volleyball is too sluggish. The chambara minigame is lame. All the developers did with chambara is put pretty lights during every move, to give players the illusion that the game is fun. None of that is fun for me.

The multiplayer is complete trash, due to how garbage the physics are. The soccer ball magically went through my character. I lost that online game and I got very frustrated when I saw the replay. One of my opponents made a goal with a header, but his head was about 5 inches away from the ball. I slammed my joy-cons against the ground out of frustration. It's so unfair that I lost because the developers are too lazy to make proper physics. I don't recommend this game at all, unless you want to support laziness.

I also feel the game's lack of practice modes is a huge let down.

The online play is fun and match making is quite speedy. Almost all of my matches had no lag. I find it super fun to collect items to customize my mii (but I find the lootbox-like system used to be awful.) And the title system is really funny. Survival bowling is super fun. The addition of friends only rooms with VCs is great.

The local compatibility has not changed one bit from previous games, choose a mode, hand out the controllers, and play the game. But where the game truly shines is its online mode. Online mode is essentially lag-free, depending on your internet connection. The only issue I have with online play is that you can only earn cosmetic rewards from the mode, paying at least 3.99 USD each month just to be able to unlock cosmetics. Cosmetics are the most likely reason as to why they wiped Miis out of this title. The new characters allow for cosmetics, unlike the mii characters, which can only use the equipment and clothing that you earn form the gift boxes in the game. Each sport feels fresh, with a new coat of paint, HD graphics, and improvements to previous sports, like bowling, which got split screen up to 4 players at 30 FPS, which feels choppy, so playing bowling like this could impact your chance to win. Each of the new sports are easy to pick up and can be difficultly fun. The only game that has button bindings is soccer, which uses the triggers to run and pass to your teammates. This game is a major improvement from the Wii titles, with its new sports, online functionality, cosmetics and new sports helps justify the games price. Expand

While I did originally give this game a score of 5/10, praising the fun gameplay but expressing my irritation with the game's lack of polish, I feel it's time I updated the score to accurately represent the game in 2023.

After my decently long hiatus from the game, I returned to Nintendo Switch Sports seeking only to have a little bit of fun. Little did I know this seemingly tiny decision would lead to numerous hours of the most bafflingly dead game I've experienced. I started with bowling, which took forever to find a single match, but when I did everyone took their first bowl and then... nothing. Absolutely nothing happened. The lobby froze, and forced every single person to close their game and start over. What a great first impression that would have been if that were your first game back! After loading the game back up, I was waiting in a queue for another game for 5 minutes. When I did get in, did I manage to have an issue-free experience? No, of course not. Glitches everywhere, disconnects and bots, and barely an inch of polish. The next few hours were nought but waiting for the game to break in the next preposterously silly way, and groan in disappointment that I spent money on this thing.

At the end of the day, I feel I can no longer recommend Nintendo Switch Sports to anyone; the bugs aren't funny like with games like Skate 3 or FnaF Security Breach, and the game's general quality is so pathetic it simply leaves me questioning what the **** the devs were doing with their time. If you want a good sports game, go play the original Wii Sports, or Wii Sports Resort. End of story.

Just when I thought Nintendo couldn’t have dropped the ball any lower, they did it. For it’s asking price of 40 dollars, it only offers six sports, SIX! All of them widely vary in quality, with soccer, badminton, and tennis functioning too similarly, not to mention it launching unfinished like so many multiplayer centric games on the Switch. While the old and returning sports do benefit from improved motion controls from the previous games, they all lack any sort of satisfying substance, especially Bowling, Chambara, and Soccer. Wii Sports Resort had twice the number games and included all of its gameplay features baked in for the same price, so there’s no reason why Switch Sports should be this lacking. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again; the Sportsmates feel completely out of place in a Wii Sports sequel and are so uninspired and look almost identical to each other. It’s very disappointing that Nintendo went with these soulless, minimalistic avatars as the main focus in favor of the iconic Miis which are so beloved and have been widely used for over 15 years. Yes, you can play as your Mii still, but it’s so obvious that the focus was shifted away from them and look very odd with the Sportmate’s body proportions. Spocco Square as well, looks and feels so generic and out of place compared to Wuhu Island that it feels better suited for a generic third party sports game than a legit Wii Sports sequel. Overall, it’s very saddening to see such a low quality product come out of Nintendo in-house. I know they can do better than this. They’ve made some of my favorite video games and characters of all time, and it sucks that they’ve pumped this product out just to cash in on the success of the Wii Sports franchise by brand alone. Compare this to Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, and you’ll see just how inept a video game company can be these days, setting aside any glimpse of the edge, charm, and creativity that they’ve had over 15 years ago. Uninspired, unfinished, cash grab, trying to piggyback off of Wii sports success. The game doesn't even have half as many sports as the last game. It clearly was unfinished and just pushed out early without care. The graphics are overly simplified and the sound design is way less satisfying. Not worth playing over any wii wports games. Expand

Disconnects often while playing normally and even bans you for hours despite it being a bug in the game. Fun for a couple days but not worth it.

$40 for seven sports is a rip-off when Wii Sports was free seems a slap in the face. This game is fun but I was over it after a few hours. Felt like 1-2 Switch all over again.

Nintendo Sports is extremely buggy. Menus that send you in circles, controller issues non stop. Massive waste of time and money.

First its NOT a bad game.. but there is way to little Content.
Its very good to play in Multiplayer but in Singleplayer its just boring.
The price is to much for the Content (39,99€: Physical version).
I wouldn't recommend this to all switch owners its not a must buy.

A rehash of Wii Sports that's lacking in many ways in terms of content. Interesting for a session or two, and then severely drops off in terms of replay value. Was expecting a lot more besides a fresh coat of paint and beautiful environments to sugarcoat generic gameplay.

The requirement for two full sets of Joy-cons to play all of the games is a major turnoff, and the ridiculous price point is a total scam, even if it may be par for the course in terms of Nintendo Switch exclusives. This should've been bundled with the Switch, just like Wii Sports was for the original Wii.

Still fun with friends but overall this game isn´t an upgrade to the original game in any way. Motion controls still don´t work most of the time, the new Miis are as awkward as the old ones, and the online mode is the half baked garbage you would expect from Nintendo.

Not worth full price or even $40.

Stunned this game has such low reviews. I think it's a great upgrade from the Wii Sports. And the online portion of it has been nothing short of excellent (with a few hiccups here and there). All the sports are fun to play for the most part but sometimes (bowling) is an issue with controls at times. But overall it's a nice game to play and a fun game with friends and family

How lazy do you want to get? Nintendo: yesssssss

If Super Mario 3D All-stars didn't exist, I'd classify this game as the biggest cash-grab in Nintendo's history (which says a lot). You've got six games and one coming later. Of every game there is just the bare minimum and, except maybe for soccer, they've all been done better before by Nintendo themselves. If you compare it to Wii

If you compare it to Wii Sports or, much better, Wii Sports Resort, this game falls short in every. single. category. Except maybe for the online Leagues but considering Nintendo's netcode feels older than the Internet itself, this is only a drop in the ocean. Even the Joy-Cons feel inferior to the Wii Remote. At least the latter could be re-calibrated mid-game which they somehow forgot here.

It's overall evident that no competent designer of ANY capacity was involved in development of Switch Sports. I've rarely seen worse and less functional UI (except for maybe ubisoft's STEEP). It's overall a mediocre experience that perfectly encapsulates current day Nintendo's philosophy: don't work smart OR hard. Just don't work at all.

Perfectly fine so far. I've signed up for the demo and I knew I had to buy it, so I had pre-ordered right after it and it was like going back to Wii age with the online extra and improved graphics. It's incredible how joycons can do what wiimote did on that time.

I don't own an Wii so I won't compare the game to the Wii version.
First of all, there are not much motion control games to play on switch, and this one is quite solid. Moving your body and being able to play online is fun enough for me to ignore that somehow unresponsive motion sensoring.

Lacking of content is a problem, there are only 6 mini games to play and if you don't enjoy any of them, then there are nothing left to do.
Another problem is that there are no real tutorial or practice mode. There are basic control guides for certain games and hints during loading screens, but no actual explains for game mechanics. I played tennis for days and I didn't know there are spins until I finally saw it on the hints, and some opponents are using moves that I still don't know how. I don't like reading guides outsides of games, but the lack of explanations makes me feel I'm forced to do so.

For me, this is a fun game that I'm going to play for months without getting bored.

The returning sports were ruined by the inferior joycon motion controls and new gameplay “improvements”. Although Golf is at it’s best here, unfortunately the courses from Wii Sports Club weren’t included in this game for whatever reason.

Nintendo Switch Sports has brought back everything we loved about Wii Sports and given it a refresh fit for 2022. Old favourites like tennis and bowling are back, while new games have also been added to the mix including badminton and football. This game is really fun to play.

Playing the tennis and bowling game modes don’t exactly bring anything particularly new to the table, but it’s hard not to let muscle memory kick in after an extended period away. Volleyball and badminton also make for a grand entrance that are suitable additions to a bag filled with varied game modes.

Playing by myself for an extended period of time was boring and monotonous, and the absence of certain single-player modes is a major oversight. But Nintendo Switch Sports is a fantastic multiplayer game that, for the most part, invites anyone and everyone to pick up a controller and flail their limbs about. It has its issues, but they fall away when you have other people to play with and are joyously going toe-to-toe in virtual sports. As with the original Wii Sports, Nintendo Switch Sports finds beauty and fun in simplicity. And bowling is great. Better than real-life bowling.
