Played for one day. Now it won’t load my save file. Just returns to main menu. Tried force restart and redownload. Absolutely chock full of bugs. Awful, just awful. Nintendo have to start refunding these broken poor state releases or I’m done risking any day one purchases. The dev has some serious work to do here. I’ll check for patches in a month.

    This should not have been

On the whole, Monster Harvest has become an entertaining game for the Nintendo Switch. The storyline can entertain entertainingly and so can the tasks. Thanks to the numerous options and characters, there is a lot of play. The controls will also be fine once a few bugs are fixed, hopefully soon. You should wait for our opinion, but if the problems are fixed, Monster Harvest is a reallyOn the whole, Monster Harvest has become an entertaining game for the Nintendo Switch. I've played all of the Harvest Moon games before the developer switched over to Story of Seasons, and Stardew Valley is my all-time favorite indie game. Unfortunately this game just didn't do it for me.

The environment/pixel art itself looks great but beyond that, there's just not much to like here yet. The character art is horrendous! It really looks terrible. No character

The environment/pixel art itself looks great but beyond that, there's just not much to like here yet. The character art is horrendous! It really looks terrible. No character customization either so you're stuck choosing 1 out of 4 options, all just as ugly as the rest of the townsfolk. Even the character avatars that pop up in chat are quite horrific to behold.

The music is alright. Not sure why or how it managed to get old on repeat quite so fast but it did. Game mechanics aren't all bad but they're pretty basic to begin with. The Pokemon style battles are BORING!

I just can't recommend this one. It just doesn't have the appeal of anything that it tries to mimic.

Big Fan of Monster Catching games (Poke, Nexo, Digi etc.) and never played a Farming Sim before. I found this game a great blend of both. I've played 10 hours and barely scratched the surface.
Very addictive game loop of growing, exploring, upgrading
I haven't encountered any bugs myself, and PC is probably a better experience, Playing on my switch so I can take it on the go and pause

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. On the switch its fine enough. Im always a sucker for stardew valley type games, and then to add a pokemon, monster collection element, I mean that's the best of both worlds to me. Unfortunately i have too many problems to continue playing. There are so many bugs in the game that its hard to even move in the map without running into a bug. From the mounts showing up in the dungeon to having to pay for the mount attachment for the barn 3 seperate times to the enemy not dying despite being in the negative numbers, i cant in good faith give this game a good score. I just hope they casn release a patch for the game so i can finally start enjoying the game. Expand

It’s a shame that the execution is so bad, since, as I said, there’s a good idea at the core of Monster Harvest. Given that there are plenty of very good monster-breeding games and farming sims out there – even if not necessarily in the same game – you’re much better off playing those in tandem rather than suffering through this.

I’d like to be able to say that aside from the bugs, Monster Harvest is a great game, but that’s just not true at this point. The game is just missing too many staples that other farming sims feature. There is little main story, no NPC interaction, a near featureless battle-system, no side quests, and barely any small intermediary goals throughout the game. Even beating the final boss is greeted with a single line of dialogue and zero fanfare. Publisher Merge Games has repeatedly claimed additional content will release when debugging is complete. It would be worth RPGamer’s time to wait for both of those events to occur.

Monster Harvest is retro in how it looks, which is great, but also in how it plays, which isn't as great. The gameplay doesn't feel addictive enough for a farming simulator, and the monster battle portion feels tacked on. I had fun with the game, but I never felt drawn into the world.
