Melbits World is, by far, one of the cutest puzzle-platformers you will play through. Utilizing that charm, cuteness, and design, this title offers something I could see families playing through together, but the lack of single player and replayability hurt the overall package.

Melbits World is a multiplayer-only puzzle game that is filled with cute critters and colorful stages. While you don’t really control the Melbits directly, you do influence their movement by moving contraptions around and flipping switches on screen. This impacts where and how they can move, ultimately guiding your little friends toward the goal of the stage.

There are four different types themes for stages, and each has different contraptions that players will need to use to push their Melbit friends to the goal. While there are some hazards, avoiding them is possible. Frustratingly, each player only has the ability to handle a set number of contraptions in a stage and this can be confusing when trying to help your critters escape from danger. Our Melbits fell into certain doom several times due to control-related problems, and the fact that they are basically lemmings and will literally walk off cliffs...

Collectibles are found in most stages, and you can even earn little outfits and accessories to customize your Melbits with. This is probably one of the coolest parts of the game, and gives the most replayability. Due to the fact that you never get the same controls twice, this also makes replaying a stage entertaining.

This puzzler requires communication and thought. Working together is absolutely necessary to achieve the finish line for each Melbit, and avoiding the nasty virus monsters and getting crushed by blocks or other hazards will be tough early on, but as you learn more about interacting with the stages, you’ll fall into a groove with your other players and things will be a lot easier.

While I wouldn’t recommend this title for a group comprised entirely of adults, it is a great way to include children in group gameplay. This game will work out well at family gatherings or play dates, or even when you just want to spend some quality time with the littles.

    Pros:
    -Beautiful visuals
    -Cute characters
-Watching these little guys find so many ways to kill themselves is kind of hilarious.

    Cons:
    -Repetitive
    -Multiplayer only
-Steep learning curve for controls that change.

    Overall: 8/10

Melbits World is intolerably cute, but not without its flaws. The game shines the brightest when played with kids, as the adorable characters resonate well with younger age groups. Admittedly, this title is geared toward a young audience, but is a good time filler for an even better price point for older players. The repetitive gameplay and minimal input is absolutely great for small children, and the collectibles are super fun. Adults may not find much from this, but the memories made would be worth it in the end.
