Probably the laziest "Nintendo" and "Mario" branded product I've ever bought. The gameplay is extremely bland and dull, with the only factor of depth being a rather stupid gimmick where you move the ball in the air in various stages, and this gimmick isn't even available for all the characters at the start of the game. In its current state (no updates released yet), I would say it's at the "shareware" level. If this game had been given away for free to NSO users it might have been acceptable, but as a $60 product it's just a joke. Nothing in the game looks complete. The feeling of playing is the same as experiencing a bug-free tech demo.

This is one of those games that is so incomplete for the price that it sounds like an insult. It's as if the seller has no respect for the customer. I'm surprised Nintendo considered a game that wouldn't even qualify for a mid-tier mobile game to be released for $60 for the main console. This game is so incomplete, so barebones, that it alone made me lose all confidence in Nintendo-licensed games. I hope more players will follow my "example" and not buy anything else from Nintendo until they start releasing full games again.

Not being able to tell ifyou are going to hit something is a problem they should fix. The special shots aren't very fun, they're mostly just for exploiting the computer or angering your friends. I would recommend you use "play all at once", and not use motion controls.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mario Golf: Super Rush is... I dunno how to explain it. I wish the game had more to offer. All you get is local multiplayer, online multiplayer, and campaign. The campaign is kinda easy and it takes no time at all and you don't get much customization for your character, plus it doesn't have a ton to offer. Even though I kinda liked it I know other players won't like it as much. Online multiplayer isn't difficult and it's just playing golf against others. Local can be fun with family and friends but other than that, kinda gets old. The character selection screen has an okay amount of characters but I wish there was more. Also I wish they made the putting more realistic. No matter what power you're putting at, it basically always goes in the hole because of the pole. I know it's most likely there to help players out, but I kinda wish it wasn't there for more of a challenge. Overall Mario Golf: Super Rush is Ok and it lacks some stuff. Expand

Gone are the ring shots modes, cup tournaments, challenges, best badges/birdie badges and star characters. None of the game modes are interesting and are very boring and basic. The graphics are pretty bad for the Switch (especially Shelltop Sanctuary golf course, it's awful). The characters only have one animation for a good or bad outcome when winning/losing a hole and it's very lazily done compared to the previous entries which had very flashy animations. The only thing good I have to say about the characters is that they have pretty good golfing outfits (save for a few like Yoshi and DK who don't have any).

If this game was 20$ or cheaper I would have gave this 7 or more but the fact it's a 60$ full game price is why it's a problem, it's like Nintendo doesn't simply doesn't care if they're ripping their off customers and simply charging that amount of money for being a Nintendo product. The seal of quality once used by the company has completely lost it's meaning. Play the previous golf entries or spend your money on another actually good Switch game.

With that said, the core golfing is generally quite good, and has sufficient depth to be engaging without alienating casual players.

The single-player campaign included in Mario Golf: Super Rush, while enjoyable, certainly doesn't live up to it's potential and is quite uneven. The difficulty curve is strangely implemented, certain challenges can feel insurmountable, while others require very little effort. The mode features a variety of different hub areas, but there isn't much reason for them to exist as there's no meaningful interactions or gameplay that takes place in them. There are a few boss fights included, and while these are pretty fun, they're for some reason all jammed together at the end of the game instead of being peppered throughout the duration of the experience. The story itself has a bit of promise at the start, but meanders and sputters out without any real memorable events having taken place. The mode at the very least does serve as a decent enough tutorial, but beyond that there isn't much to say about it.

The multiplayer is certainly the main course here, and includes enough locales and characters to feel like a full experience. I really enjoy the new Speed Golf mode, running through courses as the different characters is quite a nice change of pace from the more plodding pace of the standard golf. Online works fairly well, though it certainly isn't the smoothest experience around, with local play functioning quite well and providing sufficient customizability.

Music and visuals are functional but not exactly exciting. The game does look quite nice at times, but never really reaches the heights of Nintendo's main series Mario titles. The music is fairly generic, but is energetic enough and doesn't detract from the experience much.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is a casual friendly golf title that I enjoyed my time with, though I do recognize a general lack of polish that really shouldn't be present in a Nintendo published Mario game.

Mario Golf World Tour was one of my most-played games on my 3DS (competing with the likes of Animal Crossing New Leaf and the Picross games.) When I bought a Switch on launch day, I was already looking forward to this game.

Three years later, it finally comes out... and it's pathetically unfinished and uninspired. There is no joy nor excitement anywhere to be found. The course designers made nearly no effort to make these areas visually belong in the Mario universe, and they don't even look particularly good at all. Engagement comes in the form of "hit your ball into this cyclone to get up the cliffside" and that's about it. Oh, and you can collect coins as you run to where your ball landed, if you want -- they're nigh-pointless, as is the running to the ball itself. This was marketed as a core feature of the game leading up to release, and it's pathetically boring.

The main mode of the game forces you to play through the course as a noisy, annoying Mii character -- using Mario or any of the other characters is not an option. The golf mechanics are both overly simplistic and unrealistic, allowing you to freely bend shots back and forth in midair, with complete disregard for club choice.

There is basically nothing to unlock or obtain in the game. All included characters have one costume, and it's the one they're already wearing. You can obtain "stronger clubs" which just changes some internal numbers, and each character has a "special shot" which was almost never useful at all in my 30-or-so hours of gameplay.

There's a cutscene halfway through the "story mode" which has you hit a golf ball really hard into a makeshift dam of rocks blocking a river, which destroys the dam and unlocks the next course. The cheesiness of the whole situation, combined with the poor, uninspired graphical presentation, really act as a cornerstone for my feelings about this game. This is as involved as the game gets, right here.

2 stars because the splash screen (the artwork from the cover) looks really great as the game is loading. Then, the actual game loads, and reality sets in. I really should've fought for a refund; I bought this digitally when it came out, and haven't even thought of playing it past the first week. This is the same developer responsible for the excellent Mario Golf World Tour on 3DS and Everybody's Golf on PlayStation 4. How & why is this game so bad?

What made this game appealing to me prior to acquiring it was the idea of revisiting playing the old Nintendo 64 version of Mario Golf and seeing what has changed from my high school days.

Well, as it turns out, a lot has changed.

For one, the mechanics of the game are as smooth as the graphics. You expect that when it comes to a Nintendo console that's a few generations ahead of the vintage 64. Yes, there’s something therapeutic watching your ball sail a long way in the real world; the same thing applies when you play this game, you're left to marvel watching the ball glide seamlessly in the virtual world.

In addition, the variation of characters to choose from is quite refreshing as it gives you the option of picking the classicals such as Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser, as well as some of the more obscure characters such as Pauline from the original Donkey Kong games, Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy and Chargin’ Chuck from... I guess... Super Mario ESPN?

The pleasant thing about the courses to choose from is that they have their own unique quirk to bring to the table. Bonny Greens is generic, but also great to grasp the basic concepts of golf if you’re new, but other courses bring tougher obstacles which require ace maneuvering if you’re to beat your competition.

Pleasantly, this game offers advice about how to play your shots and includes all of the golf lingo that you'll probably hear the commentators murmur whilst you've got The Masters on in the background of your online shopping.

If you’re not a traditionalist such as myself, you can be a little more adventurous with how you choose to play golf, you can play speed golf which requires a lot more focus and precision to not only stuff up your shots, but to get your ball to the hole as quick as you can.

In addition, there is battle golf, where you compete with others to be the first player to nail three holes out of nine the quickest, it becomes very intense very quickly against family or friends and it can only spell a great time or the potential for your father to disown you in a similar fashion you would play Monopoly.

The game’s story mode is a must if you want to unlock the courses that aren’t downloadable content. It’s very addictive in the sense that you build your Mii character and then get your creation to work on the art of golfing , adding up all of the stats to how you see fit and learning all the tricks you need to master this generation's Mario Golf along the way.

It's fun to play and experience the new courses as you progress. However, the story gets more complex than hit the ball less than your opponent and beat the clock to progress to the next course as the game progresses, but I’ll leave that there in danger of spoiling the entire plot of the story.

All in all, this is a game that even the most casual of golf fans and Mario fans alike can pick up and gel with quite easily.

There could be extra characters, courses and maybe other intangibles (why super backspin, but no super topspin?) but for what it’s worth, it’s a game that has delivered a very solid drive and has landed smack bang on the putting green.

There was hardly anything to unlock like Characters via Matchplay or gaining points by doing Tournaments to unlock new course. We don't have Ring shot or Minigolf as well. Sure I'm glad we also didn't get Slot Golf but I would hardly call this a game whatsoever. This is just another example of how Nintendo fails to make a good game for not taking it serious enough because it isn't a mobile money machine.
Further WHY THE HECK MAKE BALL CONTROL RANDOM NOW? in older installments you had to have some kind of skill to make sure the Ball fly's straight and where you want it to land but noooooo this time it has to be random, prolly to better appease casual players but even back then, all you had to do is time you button press well to get the optimal control what's so hard about that that casual players need to be pampered with randomness to not be overwhelmed. This game could have been good but with such a development failure of course it will sell even worse once word got out and puts in the final nail in the coffin for this "unrentable" franchise. If your a company that long on the market you should feel an obligation to maintain your franchises good standing for at least every "Generation" your on the market, even if it isn't the big selling product but for keeping a positive image and to have continues relevance. There is always a smaller but passionate market that you shouldn't sour your relation towards.

If you like Mario Golf Toadstool Tour on GCN Mario Golf Super Rush is another fun time.
The gameplay is the best in the series to me and the new modes added are really fun but I still prefer standard golf. I give this game a 8 out of 10 because not all content is here yet and my score might change after all the free updates come out.

A good idea put to waste.

While the "speed golf" aspect of the game is a novel idea, it could have been implemented much, much better, especially coming from the same franchise as Mario Kart. I mean c'mon, add some red shells, stars, SOMETHING! Also, the game has limited content with only 6 courses and the "story" mode is horrible. Online play could be improved.

Personally I didn't find these modes to be that fun, put they could make for great party games. There's even a story mode that, while not all that great, is still there. With free maps and characters on the horizon too the game gives a lot of reason to come back, which makes me happy because I honestly had a lot of fun playing this game. If you're looking for a good time with your friend and family, this is the game for you. is simple and charming, but is not a game that I personally would play alone

The new speed golf mode while fun, can also be a bit chaotic and at times can suffer from a bit of down time. The single player story mode makes a promising start, but loses its charm and appeal rather quickly due to a small number of things to do and weak RPG mechanics. The cross country mode is an interesting feature and I'm surprised that there is no option to play this mode out of the story mode (perhaps this will be added later on?). The recent update also added monthly tournament play which is nice, although I wish power shots were turned off, as in my experience online play involves waiting for your opponents to go first so that you can hit them with a powerful shot and potentially screw up their game. If you have friends or family to play with, I think local play is a great option as well with both split screen and turn by turn play possible. Overall, this is a pretty solid experience that will hopefully continue to get better with more updates just like Mario Tennis Aces. Expand

I have absolutely no idea what is going on over at Nintendo but this...it ain't it champ. What an empty game. Mechanics are boring and the game is far too easy. AI is a joke. The multiplayer is atrocious. What is even the point. The most money I have wasted in quite a while. If it ever gets better will update. But at the moment I cannot in good faith recommend this game to anybody at the moment.

No idea why this is scored so low, I absolutely loved this game, it's a good golf game in base, but with enough fun mario-y stuff to keep it interesting. Enjoyed it a lot, only criticism is that it's a bit on the short side, but it is way longer than Mario Tennis.

It’s fun once you get into it but when you compare it to other Mario side games, like Mario kart, it’s not as polished and lacks the AAA feel you expect. At release it felt like they didn’t have it ready in time and shipped it out unfinished. Hopefully the free DLC will keep coming so it ends up feeling worthy of being a full price Nintendo release.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. On February 2021, Nintendo finally released a Nintendo Direct that everyone has been waiting for, but it was one of their worst Nintendo Directs. One of the things that stood out from all of the other games was a trailer for a new game called Mario Golf: Super Rush. Naturally, everyone was hype whenever the game finally released on June 25th 2021, but is this game up to par with all the others, or is it a bogey for the Mario Golf franchise? Find out in this review!

I feel like it would be best to talk about the character selection first. We have the obvious selection of characters, like Mario, Luigi, Bowser etc. But there are also newcomers to the series, like Pauline, King Bob-omb and Chargin’ Chuck. While I like some characters added that are new to Mario Golf, I feel like there are some unnecessary ones like Chargin’ Chuck. One thing I do like about the characters though is that most of them wear unique clothes, but I find it weird that characters like Donkey Kong and Yoshi don’t wear anything unique when Toad and Bowser wear different clothes.

The next thing I’m going to talk about is the game modes and courses. This is one of the major complaints about the game, as the options are seriously lacking compared to the other Mario Golf games. However, the game modes are still fun and enjoyable and the same can be said about a few of the courses. The first game mode I’m going to talk about is Speed Golf. This mode has you play normal golf, but all of the players hit the ball at the same time and you have to run to wherever your ball is and continue until your ball gets into the hole. Your character also has a unique special dash which can help you get to your ball faster. There are 2 different ways to play Speed Golf. The 1st way to play it is to get your ball into the hole faster than other players to get more points than them and it doesn’t matter how many times you hit the ball. The 2nd way to play it is to get your ball into the hole in as few shots as possible like normal golf, but you still have to physically run to your ball. The next mode I’m going to talk about is Battle Golf, which has its different courses being set inside a stadium. The goal here is to get your ball in 3 holes before everyone else, but there is only 9 holes that are separated from each other by some distance. Battle Golf also takes some rules from Speed Golf as you have to run to your ball and hit it in 3 holes, but there are also enemies in Battle Golf that act as obstacles. However, the only complaint I have about Battle Golf is that there are 2 courses, so there isn’t a lot to choose from.

Another thing I am going to talk about is the story mode: Golf Adventure. This is another thing that the majority of Mario Golf fans didn’t like about Mario Golf: Super Rush. The story is that you play as your own custom character, which is one of your Mii’s on your Nintendo Switch, in order to become a pro golfer. After completing certain tasks or missions, you can gain XP which can level up your character. When you level up, you will gain skill points which can be used to increase your character’s skill at something: Power is how hard you can hit the ball, stamina is how much stamina you have when running or performing a special dash, speed is how much fast you can run, control is how straight the ball will be and spin is how much spin or shape the ball will have. There is also a handful of bosses found in the game, however it takes until near the end of the game in order to face them, I won’t spoil them though. The final thing I am going to talk about is online and replayability. I honestly was expecting online multiplayer for Mario Golf: Super Rush and it doesn’t fail to disappoint, you can even play Speed Golf online. The problem I have with the online is that it doesn’t punish you for leaving, like Smash Bros does. And then there is replayability, possibly the worst part about Mario Golf: Super Rush. This game is really lacking in replayability and that is why I don’t think this game is worth £49.99. It isn’t exactly the best single player game because of lacking choices, and I feel like you will have a better experience with friends/family.

In conclusion, this game was definitely fun and enjoyable at certain parts and I do like some things like character Special Shots. I also enjoyed Speed Golf and the online was fun whenever I wasn’t bullied by Yoshi players, but with the replayability being low and an awful story mode being present, it makes the game feel like it is missing some parts. I know that there will be updates and there was an update at the time of this review, but the fact they add new modes and characters in an update isn’t fine, I get Mario Tennis Aces, but that released a new character every month, Mario Golf Super Rush is adding a lot more then that when they update. Overall, if you are planning to buy this game, wait until it’s worth at least £30.

People seem to hate on XC golf, but I like it. It provides a challenge to the golf formula. Overall though, the game is a shell of the GameCube and N64 versions. Having greatly enjoyed World Tour on the 3ds, I hoped that Super Rush would be just as good or even better than it, but unfortunately I find Super Rush to be slightly worse than World Tour. While it does keep the system of World Tour, Super Rusher changes it in a way I'm not totally on board with. But despite this, I still had fun with this, especially the Battle Golf mode.

At this point in history, anyone that picks up a Mario sports game should know what they are getting themselves into. And yes, this title is no different.

As always, the visuals and sound are up to standard for any Nintendo game. Cute as ever and beaming with colour! The game-play is solid with a simple but intuitive control scheme and a bit of variety with how you would like to play.

I love golf games in general, but there are a lot of weird choices with this one: the lack of full trajectories, the fact that wind barely does anything at all, the incredibly easy putting mechanics, and the huge tonal shift in the story mode just to name a few. Wind mixed with elevations makes zero sense when aiming for the flag.

Playing online, need to quit? Too bad, now you can't play online again until your penalty for quiting is served.

It's these omissions, mixed with the more realistic approach to golf that makes it frustrating. If you're going for real life golf sim mechanics and physics, then for f sake-- put in all the golf manoeuvres like lob shots! Jeez...

The actual golf is about as watered down as possible, no real emphasis on setting up your shot which is the best part of playing golf games, it's more of a luck based experience with you trying to watch a bar and press A at the right time, the luck aspect is due to the "danger zone" mechanic where your strong swings are likely to make your ball curve in one direction or the other.

The adventure mode is the main single player experience and that is basically a drawn out tutorial for a while where you can only play as a Mii character. Eventually it becomes a deeper experience with some stat building, but honestly it feels like it harks back to a Wii era title, like more of an expansion to the Wii Sports era golfing experience than what I would expect from a Mario Golf title.

So it's got some charm giving it some bonus points, but honestly this is probably one of the worst golf games I have played in recent years. Just a very disappointing experience.

Running around the maps, running around the links, just lots of running. The load times are a bit much for how little is here and you get really sick of watching CPU players play through a hole and either get hole in ones and birdies or 6-8 strokes on a hole that takes them forever to complete. You can't skip CPU players, you have to watch them.

I really miss Mario Golf Toadstool Tour. I played that a lot and it was one of Nintendo's best sports titles but instead of modernizing that, they continued their Mario Sports trash series where the gimmicks are 90% of the game and everything that makes the sport what it is, is just not good.

I can't enjoy this, definitely can't play this for longer than 20 minutes without being bored or annoyed so I can't say how much is here but it feels empty. Is 2 harsh? Maybe, but I really did love Nintendo's sports titles back in the Gamecube generation. Even GBA had some decent titles but come on Nintendo, if you're going to make a sports game start with a good sports game. You can still do gimmicks but give me something I want to come back to.

This game is a wonderful and relaxing game to play; It breaks up the monotony of playing games you have to stay focused on. This game gives you a nice break to just sit back and play a couple rounds but also gives you a couple of game modes that give you that “super rush” you get when you are focused on a good video game for hours.

The Mii story mode is another refreshing creative twist that gives this game another way to play. It’s fun and fresh and a great addition to the game as a whole.

With the near future holding more updates to this game I can only say that it is going to get more and more fun for the family. I give this game a thumbs up to Nintendo in their line up of sports themed games. My only complaint would be that I wish the game had more courses and character options, but as shown in the trailers for this game they already have plans to add more of these in the near future.

In conclusion, I give Nintendo praise for delivering a great wholesome video game that gives the Golfing franchise a fresh coat of paint while adding more to what we loved from the past. With that being said I encourage others to play this game. It’s relaxing, fun and brings a good balance to daily gaming.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is an empty husk of a game and the epitome of Nintendo's long and relentless journey towards making all of their games as soulless as possible.

The adventure mode is horrendously bland and pointless, it's linear to the point where you question why they even put all the time and effort into making it if all you do is travel from A to B to C and play the same courses over and over. The only things to do besides playing courses to reach the extremely anticlimactic ending is: talk to nameless Mario brand characters who say words, all of which are instantly forgotten, play practice missions which actually teach you some techniques but at the cost of doing them over and over until you memorize how to hit the shots as wanted, or buy gear at the stores which are completely useless unless they are the gear for the specific course you are about to play next in the plot. Speaking of plot, the story is eye-wateringly contrived and miserable. You drift apart from the only friends you have in the world to follow the whims of some nameless god in order to beat some sort of evil snow thing, but it really doesn't matter, by the end you will have forgotten why you did any of this and you are rewarded with nothing beyond some text on the screen trying to convince you that you did something meaningful, but you have not.

The golf is almost fine but still manages to be bad. The accuracy for each shot is not only randomly determined but also predetermined, so you get the worst of all worlds. You can't know how your shot's accuracy will line up when you hit it, but if you restart the match, now you do. Scoring a birdie/eagle/albatross/hole in one is rewarded with your character doing a spin and smiling or something, there are only two animations and neither are that congratulatory. This actually lines up pretty well with the fact that if you are running on the course, you will not be able to see any impressive shots you make, and there are no replays. If a ball falls into a hole and no one is there to see it, does it even matter? The accuracy shift, the redline of the shots, also doesn't matter. The wind hardly matters. Club choice depending on terrain doesn't matter. Just hit the ball to the next spot so that you can hit the ball to the next spot.

This is a bad video game and no one should play it. Actually, it's worse than that. It's a competently made video game that has no point in existing, other than to cause distress and regret. I write this review to try to cope with the fact that I spent sixty dollars to play an awful golf game by the developers who made Advanced Tour.

Este título do Mario precisa ser avaliado como um spin e não jogo principal como vi muitos comentários, o game é diversão desenfreada, não possui um modo história não extenso, mas não é essa a intensão do mesmo, e sim ser um ótimo passa tempo em amigos.

This consists of an exceptionally tedious first section where you have to run after your ball - no carts, will beat the CPU by 10 strokes, and then have to sit and watch them miss from 3 inches repeatedly. If you survive this, you'll be treated to a disaster second section, "XC Golf", best described as "Everything you hated about trying to run up vertical mountains in Skyrim glued to everything you hated about trying to gauge depth on a handheld screen". You will not bother proceeding to the third, having given up and gone to do something more fun (tooth pulling without anaesthetic, perhaps).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mario Golf Super Rush lives up to the last part of its name Super Rush as it feels super rushed and it feels like Nintendo purposely cut characters who have full in game models and audio (Birdo and Toadette) just so they could release them later on as "DLC". The story mode or should I say tutorial was bland and boring I expecting to take part in some tournaments but nope that doesn't happen instead they tease you at the beginning by showing Mario winning a big tournament but do you face him in a tournament? nope you go through a story mode consisting of learning different shots like putting for example and you help Bowser who's being treated as a hero in this game (No seriously) defeat the Snow King in the easiest battle ever hell getting to the battle was more challenging than actually facing him.

The controls for the most part are simple enough and for those who like motion controls they have those too but the smooth controls don't make up for a lack of content there's like 5 courses and none of them feel unique, the roster was shallow as hell with only 8 characters total not counting your Mii which you can unlock for regular play by beating the story mode.

all in all I don't recommend this title to anyone at this time I mean it was fun for awhile but it got dull real fast save your cash and either wait for a sale or until Nintendo drops any DLC

If you compare the modes and content to for example the NGC toadstool tour, this game really falls short in terms of variety and replayability.

Online multiplayer is actually fun, but suffers the same problem that its just too superficial. Getting into rooms is a drag. Online there is nothing to work towards or improve/collect. The battle golf mode sounds fun, but is a gimmick you will play for 15 min and then never touch again).

Stil i found myself enjoying the core gameplay mechanics, allbee it for a couple of days, after around 8- 10 hours of playing. All that can be seen in the game is done. Graphically, the game is not impressive either.
In conclusion, in its current form, the game is mediocre and feels unfinished and 'rushed', but there are glimpses of potential, which makes me excited for future mario golf games.

Ok game if you buy in a sale for a budget price, but definitely not worth 60 bucks.

If I had written this review on launch day, I would have been partway through the story mode, and been intrigued enough by speed golf to give the game a solid 7, maybe even 7.5. As it stands, two weeks after launch and without any updates, it is simply the okayest game I have every played.

It is no longer launch day. I have been through the story mode three separate times in order to customize a mii for each playable mode of the game (a long driver for stroke play, a max speed hard hitter for speed golf, and a well-rounded mii for all purpose play). And three separate times I have been sorely disappointed by the prospect of what could have been, in the face of what actually is.

There is simply not enough to do. There are three game modes, and there is the story mode, and there is the barely functional online play. That's it. Two of the game modes use the same courses, so by the end of day one, you'll have completed the story, and played through each course at least 3 times. And then there's battle golf, but even that loses it's lustre when you realize that the easiest way to win is to shoot last and simply aim for holes that no one is fighting over.

There are plenty of characters to choose from, so that's a plus, until you realize that the only difference between characters is yardage, and the rest of the character stats. Draws and fades are mechanics of the past, shot loft is no more. Each character hits the ball straight, with only slight variances occurring due to your spin or control stats.

The swing meter has been simplified from 3 button presses to 2, and while I don't exactly hate the new system, it does become quite irritating when you feel like you've lined up a perfect shot, only for the randomness of the shot accuracy to kick in.

Course designs are pretty bland. I understand no one is buying a mario golf game because of how nice the courses look, but they're lacking any sort of character. And the final course which I won't spoil for you here seems like it's unfinished with blurry textures and unclear OB spots and all sorts of little quirks compared to the other, more fleshed out courses.

Online is fine, considering Nintendo's stupid policy of leaving ethernet ports out of their consoles. Good luck managing to keep 4 players around for a full game though.

Basically, the TLDR of this review is... it feels like the franchise took a step back with this installment. Yes, it is fun. Yes, I've played every day since it came out and I have a good time with it. But that's because I'm a sucker for punishment and I really enjoy golf games. But there are so many minor things wrong with this game that I can't in good conscience give it a 7 anymore.

    For instance:
    -No tournaments
    -Few game modes
    -No saved replays
    -Terrible camera angles
    -No leaderboards
    -No shot trajectory line
    -Incomplete story mode

I like the game, and I like the fact that DLC is coming, but I hate the modern practice of rushing out an incomplete game (which this is) and finishing it later over time through DLC. Thankfully it's not paid.

If you like golf, get it. It's only going to get better with DLC and updates. Otherwise, pass on it.

Mario Golf Super rush featurs essentially 2 main modes.. play golf where you set up your match and play solo or with up to 4 players.. or adventure mode… adventure mode is where I spent most of my time, taking me about 7 hours to complete, you play as your mii character off on an adventure to save Mario golf world,.. this is essentially one giant tutorial. So I appreciate it.. youll be going through the different game modes, learn specil shots, or how to use different clubs… take on a couple of bosses… it’s a nice little single player mode to run through to unlock each course, however if you prefer just playing with friends or sticking strickly to golf with none of the gimmics, you can also unlock each of the levels by playing 18 holes in the previous… unfortunately though there are only 6 courses here, and qite frankly.. theyre all pretty lame.. I expect more charm from a Mario game, and its completely lacking here…. So you really rely on gameplay modes to keep you entertained… you can play speed golf where youre running all over the couse after your ball, trying to sabotage other players and get thte best score, or you can soimply take turns the og style… I personally found the speed golf to be fun at first, but eventually it just started to feel like an annoying gimmick to me… I don’t care to run around the same courses… it isn’t fun, its annoying to add platforming elements when your super rush is practically uncontrollable and can have you falling off the course… it is no longer about making great shots.. its more about being able to get to where the ball landed before everyone gets to theirs.. I grew to hate this mode… where I had a blas though was playing with the motion controls… do I completely understand how to play pro level with motion controls? Absolutely not, its so much harder than just chosing angles and hitting a when a meter fills, you gotta try swing with enough power to make your shots, and I loved it.. it definitely gave m a workout and with a group of friends, motion controls is the way to play.. everything feels less controlled, but its worth it…
Overall I enjoyed the time I spent with mario golf, unfortunately the golf courses aren’t enjoyable enough to get much more time out of me in the future..
This sadly is a game I see collecting dust waiting to be chose over Mario kart or Mario party when your friends come over..

As a fan of golf games, and Mario Golf games in particular, this felt like stepping onto an unfinished 9-hole course. The mechanics are strong, and the small number of courses look great, but the content is thin, and there is little to keep you coming back. After completing the brief and desultory tutorial story mode, I expected to be introduced to tournaments, tours and additional story, but instead found the game suddenly finished - minus any post game/endgame. You can go back to replay the tutorials and story elements, though there is little incentive other than it’s the only way to level up your Mii. And after being introduced to XC golf, duff shots, lob shots, and after unlocking clubs and gear, you find these sadly don’t exist outside of story mode. Speed golf is a nice addition, and makes for fun multiplayer, but aside from playing the occasional round with friends, there is little reason to return to Mario Golf: Super Rush.

Here’s hoping the upcoming free updates correct some of these failings. Birdies:
    - Speed golf mode (though waiting for your sad computer opponents to complete holes can seriously hinder the “speed”)
    - Graphics and mechanics

    Bogeys:
    - No tournaments or tours (in story mode or online)
    - Too few modes, courses and unlockables
    - Short, desultory story mode that provides little incentive to return after completing
    - Unlocked clubs, gear, duff shots, lob shots, and XC golf not available outside story mode

I don't think this game is getting the justice it deserves and I feel some people who are playing clearly don't understand the game of golf, and if they don't, need to play and PAY Attention during adventure mode. This is on the same plane as other mario games, it's detailed enough to be challenging for all ages. It is a golf game, and some seem to be taken aback by concepts very standard to a game like this.

One critic made a claim that there was no way to decipher the distance and elevation during gameplay. From a gaming standpoint this is someone who clearly didn't play the game, or failed to explore enough to find that there is a range finder you can purchase that gives distance and elevation, just like golf. Others complained about XC golf, but something tells me they didn't put into account all variables when playing. This is after all a golf game, and yes I love golf, so I am somewhat bias, but the game does give plenty of information to prepare you for the fun that is to come. There is a learning curve that makes the game more challenging/frustrating, but rewarding when playing correctly. Golf after all takes patient and calculation.

I think this game does a great job of applying that, but also being fun for everyone. The best games take time to master and I don't think this has gotten a fair shake. Instead of worrying about the amount of courses to play, maybe try focusing on mastering how to play the game, then when the DLC is out you will know how play well and have fun :)

You would think Camelot would've tried to make it the next best golf game just like Tennis Aces is their most successful Tennis game (in terms of sales, it surpassed 3 million), but sadly this game is basically just testing grounds for other type of games, like for a return of Golden Sun or something. Basically they focused too much on making a pretty game that failed to meet and exceed expectations from the last decent Mario Golf game we can remember. Hopefully fans can get the Tennis Aces of Golf one day, because this game ain't it. Expand

It’s a fun arcade golf game, but it’s a Mario game and it’s amazing. I originally thought the four player local co-op was going to suck considering that you have to take turns but it goes by really fast and it’s tons of fun solo or with the whole family

Like so many other classic Nintendo titles this one has been gutted and replaced with a pathetic product. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the N64 Mario Golf is a better game in every single way. Below is a brief breakdown of the key points of the game I feel are relevant to anyone thinking about buying.

    Mechanics/Gameplay -

Very similar to what they have done with games like Mario Party and Mario Tennis. The gameplay is worse and less intuitive than the N64 title. No top down view or zoom in brackets. Not enough maps. Extremely short with very little hours of content to play. Basically it is only entertaining if you have a friend to play with. The rangefinder is barely functional and it moves around frantically because the Joycons drift is so bad. The shot gauge is improved in some ways, but modified to make it extremely easy. You can chip out of bunkers with a 1 wood. It's bad. Story mode is as confusing and ridiculous as it is short. The speed golf modes are ridiculous and in some ways insulting to the consumer and the sport of golf. It is almost as if Nintendo finds that golf is now "too boring" for people these days, and they need to throw in useless ADHD game modes that nobody will play instead of making a functional golf game that is both fun and challenging with a good single player mode. Oh and also you can't play 4 player local because....reasons?

    Graphics/Visuals -

Graphics look like they copy and pasted the character models from Mario party and put (some of) them in golf clothing. The character design is lazy and unfinished. The actual environments themselves are okay looking, but in some instances horrible. The water in the Ridgewatch Lake is laughable and the fact that it was allowed in the game shows just how low Nintendo's QC has sunk in recent years. There were a few nice touches here and there (the birds and sheep on the course) but even the details on the sideline are shamelessly bad. The "spectators" look like an intern copy pasted the same group of generic koopas and goombas randomly through out the course. The environments are genuinely less interesting than Mario Golf 64, and the graphics considering the time the 64 title was released are vastly inferior.

    Music/Sound -

Perhaps the weakest single point about the game. SFX noises are generic and background noises
are lacking and forgettable. The character noises are the worst they have ever been and features such as being able to say "Four" have been removed when they existed in the 64 version. Wait you're saying this game has less features than a game released 20 years ago?? The score is absolutely unbearable. Thankfully they allow you to turn it off during the match, but man they should just let you turn it off while in the menu as well. Generic and uninspired garbage. Nothing like the 64 OST which was incredible. Remember when Nintendo gave a crap about making music that was good for their games? Hahaha good times.

This game is proof positive that laziness, complacency and just downright stupidity is thriving at Nintendo. Anyone at Nintendo who was involved with this release who is reading this should feel ashamed. I feel burned after this, at a time when I was starting to trust the brand again. I just wish that they still put charm, character and love into their games like they used to. I'm not even mad, I'm just sad. Mario Golf 64 was a work of art. This is a soulless husk. If I did my job the way Nintendo executed this release I would be fired.

As far as mechanics go, this game is a blast to play. I would have liked more of a penalty for poorly-timed button presses during swings, but overall the controls feel great and the physics perform admirably. One of the things that impressed me is how quickly this game loads up!

As far as content...this game feels pretty bare compared to something like Mario Golf: World Tour on the 3DS, which had all sorts of compelling game modes/challenges to play solo or online. The "Adventure Mode" is extremely lacking in its pacing, cohesion, and execution. It starts off OK, but there are just too many missteps. Online play is fun, but feels like something thrown in at the last minute. Why is there no Mii progression in online play or solo challenges?? Why are there no online tournaments?? I could go on and on about ways this game could have been great. Maybe they have some things lined up for the future. But as it is, it's currently just OK. And that's a bummer because I was really looking forward to this game.

Speed Golf is undoubtedly the main attraction of the game and it is a pity that other modes aren´t also so good.

It’s great to see Mario Golf back with some great new modes to play but changes to the gameplay take the series one-step forward and two-steps back. [Issue #4, p.53]

In all, it's incredible, and a great purchase for fans of past installments. [Issue #54 – September 2021, p. 67]
