A bit boring for solo player. First 10 hours is okay, then it becomes repetitive to play, This is more like a family game.

Edit: after pushing myself to play for a second time, I find more fun searching for the hidden gems. The map is well designed for exploration.

Luigi's Mansion 3's attention to detail blew my mind away. Almost every object in the game is interactive. Each floor offers a unique level design which makes one eager to see what's offered in the next level. The piano boss fight is well implemented along with the music. Each level is carefully designed with great attention to detail and the amount of diversity that level offered impressed me a lot. Ex: There's a level for mummies, a castle level and a pirate level. All of them are super detailed and crafted.

The bosses are fun and not challenging. It's more of solving the puzzle which is good if you want anti souls like games just to relax.

Luigi's Mansion 3 deserves something more than 9 for it's amazing attention to detail and floor designs. A 9.5 for sure.

I like Dark Moon on 3DS, but this part didn't appeal to me. Maybe because 3DS was more of a portable console, and the style of this game suited me for such portable and occasional playing. In LM3 I do not feel it at all, I miss the diorama effect present in DM. The game is certainly suitable for family gaming, but it's definitely worse game than its predecessors.

This is my first Luigi's mansion game, and I really liked it for the most part. I really liked all of the puzzles and levels. The only thing I don't like so much is the camera controls (non-existent) and the aiming for the suction shot is a bit bothersome.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is the pinnacle of the series in nearly every aspect, the art design is fantastic, the areas and animations are delightful and so full of life, even adding some great extra modes for basically no reason, but hey they're still really fun!

The new mechanics the game introduces to the series are ones I hope become mainstays as they're so well used in both puzzle solving and combat. With 15 floors and a bunch of gems hidden on each one, I'd say it's well worth the $60 price tag. Compared to previous entries the combat takes a bit of a backseat for more puzzle solving, whether or not that's a good or bad thing is completely up to you.

However I have one major complaint: the combat is............eh. The new slam mechanic is really cool in puzzles but in combat it takes all the tension, strategy, and difficulty out of the battles with the standard baddies. in Dark Moon and the original you have to pull back in the right direction hard enough and in dark moon's case, use B to dodge other ghosts and charge up your pulse meter. In 3, you just stun them, suck them up, and mash A.

You use this to slam ghosts into each other making the battles even easier and even when the slam runs out they run away so slowly that it's beyond easy to stun them before they actually hide. Combat is no longer fun.

The next thing I wanted to talk about is scarescraper, a series of 5-20 floors where you and 3 other players have to complete an objective in a certain time frame to move up to the next floor, fail one and you go back to the bottom. This mode is really fun... for the first 15 rounds maybe. But then you realize catching all the ghosts is the objective 60% of the time and remember what I said about the combat?

The other objectives like finding all the toads and collecting all the money is way more fun.

Scream park is the last point I want to touch on, it's like 8 player mario party minigames with luigi's mansion 3 controls and mechanics in it. From what I've played it's super fun, even with the uninteresting combat playing against another team to see who can catch the most ghosts in the time limit is just plain old fun.

    If I could, I'd give this one a 7.5 out of 10

Nintendo's usual quality is on display here. There is a lot of experimentation interacting with the environment that reminded me of the Lego games. There is a good amount of creativity in the various levels, alternating between different themes and mission designs. Yet I was only mildly engaged, and it's hard to articulate why I didn't have much fun playing this game. Ultimately it is because I experienced more frustration than joy.

Targeting is a bit of a pain, since you control your character's aim similar to Resident Evil 1 where you swivel your character like a turret. There is an absolutely terrible level where you are in the water on an innertube that was more frustrating than anything I experienced in Elden Ring. This is my first Luigi's Mansion game, and I have no interest in playing another.

Gameplay still feels clunky and awkward at times when it comes to controlling Luigi (a staple of the series at this point). There is no real incentive for finding any secrets/collectibles/money, despite exploration being one of the core pillars of the game. I personally found that there was no real sense of progression either, as I felt the levels could be played in any order and players would more or less get the same exact experience. Because of all these things, I personally felt a high lack of investment in the game.

All in all, this game feels more suited to be a 3D environment art showcase than a game. The magic wears off after the first couple of hours. The good aspects of the game are extremely well done, but other mediocre aspects bring enjoyment down by a good amount.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Gooigi is a nice addition, and I'm glad he didn't just fade into the background after a few floors. The desert stage is so good, and I love that the sand physics are fairly realistic in the entire stage. The movie director stage and the disco stage are two more highlights. I could talk about almost all of the stages, but I don't have enough characters. I don't really like how you just save toads until the final level (would it kill you to send Yoshi or wario so that we care more), but that's so minor I don't even care. The difficulty is just right (no Yoshi's crafted world baby stuff), and the gameplay is just like the second game but more in depth, with the suck, blow, stro-bulb, and dark-light returning, as well as the plunger, the "Sight jacking", and the aforementioned gooigi being added to luigi's arsenal. I'm not a huge fan of backtracking for toad and the kitty, especially when b2 is my least favorite stage in the whole game, but hey, that's subjective. I wish there was either a little more, or a lot less puzzle solving. It's too much for a normal luigi's mansion, but not enough for big puzzle game fans. I know I complained a little at the end of this, but this is still a game that you can't get too deep into switch collecting before you pick up. This is a good step up from Dark Moon, and I'm sure I'll get excited when the next game (hopefully) releases on the next Nintendo console. Expand

From it’s character expression to it’s new enemies, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a solid game. With great pacing and something new on each floor, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a great example for how good Luigi’s Mansion games truly are.

To make this clear, my rating is only based on my Single Player experience, were I finished the story mode. I know there is a coop mode either, but after I finished the main game, I really don't have the motivation to spend more time with this game which perfectly leads to my reasons, why I give these game only a rating 8/10.

First of all. If you played Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, you will have no problems to get right into it, because the developers take the best of the previous games and put it together.
Simply great, the game also looks gorgeous and the typical charm Luigi's Mansion has is there from beginning to the end of the game. Furthermore there are 18 different bosses which are clearly the stars of the game thanks to their huge variety they offer when you fight them. Every boss is a unique puzzle which you have to solve to reach the next area.

The scenarios are also very different to each other and offer you a big visual variety. And when you think, that this sounds like a game that deserves more than a 8/10, than you are right, but here is the thing.

The fatal flaw of this game is the playtime. You need about 15 to 20 hours to complete the game in a normal playthrough without collecting all of the stuff you can go for when you want to fully complete it.

In this game you have to explore 17 floors to get to the final boss fight and although I like the boss battles himself the exploring of the floors himself become quickly very repetitive. When you successfully completed the first four floors in the game, you have all the tools the gameplay has to offer and there are still 13 floors remaining.

They bring a new feature with Gooigi to the established formula. Unfortunately the situations where you have to use him are most of the time quite obvious and so after a few floors the feeling of doing the same things over and over again overcome me and the motivation sinks despite the beautiful scenarios. I really struggled with a lack of motivation to make it through the end because of that.

In the end it was overall an enjoyable experience, but I guess I will never play it again, because of these, in my eyes, big issue I had with the game. 11 floors with a playtime roundabout 10 hours would be perfect for this game in my opinion.

One of the most boring games I've ever played. Or maybe my expectations were way too high. I completed the game in February 2022. The optics are pretty good, even if the handheld version looks significantly worse. Other games can do that better. The whole game was too repetitive for me. The actions you take. Sucking, pounding, blowing away, etc. aren't really fun in and of themselves. There was also no incentive for me to look for the Bu-Hus or even the gems hidden on each floor. Overall I was happy when the game was over. Unfortunately. I was really hoping for more. The boss fights were usually boring for me too. I also found the controls to be overloaded and poorly implemented. I'm just saying the level in the sewers. A horror. Therefore, unfortunately only 6 out of 10 possible points.

I think it was my first and last Luigis Mansion.

First, the aiming mechanic is way too bad which mostly falls onto how the control responsiveness and direction orientation(?) which I'm not able to get used to that until I finished it. Once you are against some bosses that really rely on aiming, it becomes unnecessarily harder.

Second, I don't feel any needs to complete the game or even I want to do it. It's different kind of feeling with Mario Odyssey and Kirby TFL. Luigi doesn't have any clear indication of how the completion process works. Is it just gems? No, there are several things you have to do to unlock a specific achievements which not clearly presented for players. There's also no bar or percentage or even a dedicated menu to look at our achievements, which makes me feels "for what I'm trying to explore the mansion and look for all the gems?" There's no even ANY rewards for collecting those gems.

Third and the last one, the game almost has zero guide. If you don't experience this issue, then good for you. For me, I end up feeling lost and confused a lot in the game. I don't know how to reach certain room, I don't know what I miss to progress in that level to encounter the boss and most of it I'm confused how to beat the boss. The game is not consistent with its own mechanic in the game. You introduce us that sunglasses and shield are a thing to repel flashlight so you have to create burst to knock that off from the ghost. But for the boss at floor 6, he has a shield always intact no matter what I do and you know what? He is somehow vulnerable to light while charging even thou he still has the shield while charging. How I suppose to know that? All bosses are so random and didn't stick to certain standard with the game mechanics that they introduce to you. So many trial and error in the game which should not be the case if the game creates a clear mechanics and be consistent about it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The animation and music are really good. However, I had a bad experience with the game, it would be better as a cartoon. The puzzles are sometimes obvious, sometimes completely unintuitive, and you just walk around vacuuming everything. The bossfights are the only places where you can expect decent gameplay, and even some of them are very unintuitive. How can you figure out that for the cat boss, you have to turn around and stand still? Other fights, like the shark boss, are very good and use the mechanics in a clever way, but the quality is just too inconsistent.

The gameplay is often very boring, and there is little reason for a second player. Still, some sections, like the last bossfight before the final boss, are designed for two players, and playing it alone feels awful. I played this game almost entirely alone, because due to the controls, you cannot play it using a single Joycon, so the second player needs another controller.

The enemies are very easy and repetitive, and the combat is not very much fun. Money is useless, you only spend it on extra lifes you barely need. The collectibles are so bland that I didn't feel like collecting them. The true collectibles are the little hidden places and secrets you can unlock, like a hidden submarine. That's what made me finish the game, but now that I've beaten it, I cannot recommend it, there are far too many too good Switch games out there.

The type of difficulty I came to expect from the original isn't really here, but in other areas I think it outshines the original. The bosses on each level wind up being really engaging and more difficult than what the original offered. It also has a bigger emphasis on puzzles.

Overall, what's offered is great, but there are times where the puzzle focus gets a little old. The ghosts in between the bosses also takes a step back from the original. The new slam mechanic (while flashy) reduces the complexity of ghost encounters. To take down ghost health, you have to spam that move and after a certain amount of health is drained, the game unlatches you from the ghost. This removes the challenge the original offered of incentivizing the player to catch ghosts in one go. That said, the boss ghosts offer more challenge and the mechanics can get quite challenging on later floors. The difficulty it offers with these boss ghosts, the puzzles, and the challenge of scrubbing the place dry for money makes the game super fun to play. It just doesn't live up to the original but is far more faithful than Luigi's Mansion 2 ever was.

Also the amount of details the developers put into the level’s environment is crazy huge. Another very well thought part of the game is music. It helps to develop an atmosphere which is on point. The difficulty level could be debatable, however I enjoyed the game not being too competitive. This is an adventure that let’s you relax while laying in the bed. Moreover difficulty level combined with simple mechanics creates a pretty low entrance level to the game. This allowed my non-gamer girlfriend to complete half of the game in a few days. However this also introduces another side of the medal: simple mechanics results in overall gameplay being repetitive. The fight strategies for bosses differ a little, but eventually boil down to the same move set. Also the game makes you go back a few times to the levels you cleared previously. This stretches the play time in a really weak way. Another point is that the game raises difficulty not by introducing fresh mechanics or new types of enemies, but just by raising the number of last. It makes the experience a little frustrating and you just want to finish the fight as soon as possible to progress further.

For me it took around 18 hours of relaxed playing to complete 100% of the game and I would say I have enjoyed it. Definitely a must play for every Switch owner. Even though the game does not have any replay value at all, the general experience worth your time.

Luigi and co. are invited to a hotel which is… haunted. What do you expect? He finds a machine called the Poltergust G-00 which helps him take down the ghosts. It gets a lot better, so to avoid spoilers I’ll shut up now.

The exploration system is back! You have to solve intricate puzzles with our gooey friend Guigi, who can fit in spaces Luigi can’t, but disintegrates when he touches water. Eventually you find a room filled with ghosts, which at that point you must “Suck and Slam” them. It is very satisfying, and a lot of the ghosts are different, and harder to take down. The bosses are a mix of puzzles, and “sucking and slamming”. It has, overall, very engaging gameplay. Some people say the controls were outdated. Personally, I don’t think so, but they are different from what you’d expect.

It looks like a movie. Everything is perfect about its look, from the detail to the lighting. The locations are stellar and there is a good attention to detail. Next Level Games really did their best.

The main campaign will take you up to 15 hours. There are 2 bonus modes; the ScareScraper and ScreamPark. The ScareScraper puts you in a squad with other people, and you have to clear challenges and get to the roof to fight Big Boo. There are DLC outfits that can make Luigi and ‘80s dancer or a pirate. This mode was the one I played more. ScreamPark is a collection of mini games. The DLC gives you bonus games here. You can only play it local, though.

This is a top-tier Switch game. I guarantee you will love it. I say this as a joke sometimes, but here I mean it; Nintendo really delivered with this game.

Fantastic video game! Super fun as exciting and, above all, fascinating.
Kudos to the developers for hunting this pearl in an increasingly barren market. Well done!

This games charm shines through the level design and characters, I found catching ghosts to be while repetitive, enjoyable. My issues with this game are that the middle section drags on for way to long, the water level is one of the most unenjoyable parts of any game I've played, and that once you complete the game you cant go back into any of the levels.

boring and monotonous. the opponents are the same, the puzzles are the same. One of the worst Nintendo exclusives

Good looking game. Good ideas and level design. Unfortunately controls and mechanics are painful. Lots of enigmas are far fetched. Some clearly felt counter intuitive. You get new mechanics at every level, until it’s too much. I have two children who love this game but sadly can’t play very well and are stuck very quick and get frustrated. These games should be made to please children, notGood looking game. Good ideas and level design. Unfortunately controls and mechanics are painful. Lots of enigmas are far fetched. Luigi’s third solo adventure is the ultimate evolution of it’s formula. A game well designed to be fun either playing alone or with company. Also, it’s visuals and ambiance are incredible.

Despite some misgivings with the extras, the actual core Luigi's Mansion 3 experience is one of the best adventures of 2019. [Issue #44 – January/February 2020, p. 64]
