Kirby Fighters 2 is a well put together platform fighter, and while it certainly isn’t the biggest release of the year, it does have quite a lot to offer to Kirby fans and those looking for a fun multiplayer title. It’s not the massive Kirby release we’ve all been waiting for since Star Allies in 2018, and more certainly could’ve been done with the concept of a Kirby fighting game, but forKirby Fighters 2 is a well put together platform fighter, and while it certainly isn’t the biggest release of the year, it does have quite a lot to offer to Kirby fans and those looking for a fun multiplayer title. A simple but fun and charming experience, that somewhat feels like a smash bros. spin off, but brings enough to the table to warrant a 20 buck purchase. I'd recommend it to every Kirby and Smash fan.

Kirby Fighters 2 is a sequel that improves on the original in almost every possible way. A story mode, online play, a mix of 10 new playable copy abilities and guest characters, and same-console couch multiplayer is a vast improvement over the 3DS' Kirby Fighters Deluxe. Bandana Waddle Dee is playable; which should be enough for most Kirby fans to instantly buy.

Bandana Waddle Dee is playable; which should be enough for most Kirby fans to instantly buy.

Kirby Fighters 2 features 5 new playable copy abilities, Yo-yo, Staff, Water, Artist, and the never-before-seen Wrestler. This doesn't count the additions of 5 new playable "allies"; the likes of Magalor, Meta Knight and the awesome might of BANDANA WADDLE DEE are at your disposal. The game is evidently more balanced than its predecessor, and every single ability is fun, simple and unique. The addition of a grab as a swallow fits the Kirby theme perfectly in a fun and quirky way. KF2 doesn't skimp on modes, either. Its main single-player attraction is a tower-climbing story mode where you face off against various remixed bosses from the Kirby universe as you approach a showdown with King Dedede and Meta Knight. "Challenge Mode", a new version of the original's single-player offering, still feels tough and fresh.

Other modes include an online multiplayer mode, which is only playable in 2v2, either a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it, and a local multiplayer mode, previously only achievable through Download Play. Multiplayer Kirby Fighters in all of its glory is now on the big screen, and while it's definitely more simple than other platform fighters like Smash Ultimate and Rivals of Aether, it still manages to hold its own through the appeal of the copy abilities, the pick-up-and-play controls, and the simple fact that Bandana Waddle Dee is playable.

A must-have for fans of Deluxe, and fans of Kirby, KF2 is a worthy addition to any platform fighting fan's library, and a surprise release that does its predecessor justice.

I think that this game is worth the $20. It has a long story mode that takes many hours to complete, so that adds to the longevity. It is a fun fighter game that is easy to jump into and play. Definitely recommend it.

The game is a very simple fighter game with cute characters. the story is nothing to look at, but is fun in the higher levels. Its a pretty boring game by yourself, but the second you get a friend or family member to play, it becomes a blast. its simple enough where anybody with simple controller knowledge and pick it up and lay it! 9/10 would recommend

I think Kirby fighters 2 is a great successor to the original, there's quite a bit of content and really fun. Online play is an excellent addition especially during current events with social distancing and all that.

The entire story mode can be played with a friend but not a friend online for some reason?, like you went through the effort to add online, why not add it to the story

The entire story mode can be played with a friend but not a friend online for some reason?, like you went through the effort to add online, why not add it to the story mode? There's tons of battles in the story mode, I'd say around 100.

There's still the series of 9 battles on a stopwatch but it can't be played with a friend sadly. I think a simple endless mode version of the story mode, chapter 4 is sort of that but I think an endless high score mode with all the powerups of the story would've bumped this up to a 9. All of these things would've been a bigger problem if playing multiplayer wasn't so damn fun.

Wrestler is a welcome addition to the line of copy abilities, the new stages mostly come from the 3ds games, they haven't been upgraded a whole lot graphically but they're still really fun.

I haven't got a chance to play with 3 friends but I imagine it'll be stupid chaotic and fun.

Kirby Fighters 2 is a little barebones for a $20 game but you'll quickly forget it when plowing through the story mode with a buddy. This is the pinnacle of Kirby spinoffs on the Switch.

With the addition of Wrestler, a phenomenal new Copy Ability, along with 16 other abilities, and five unique buddy characters, there isn't an ability that feels truly same-y to the rest of them, even with some of the buddies being based on other Copy Abilities' movesets. It's all just fresh enough to keep things entertaining and interesting, while not alienating a player when they switch ability or character. An easy 9/10, if only because if you can't get a grip with the control scheme, you may have trouble learning. Expand

pretty solid fighting game i just wish their were more characters that aren’t kirby, Magalor dedede bandanna dee gooey and meta knight are cool but where’s characters like Marx and Susie it could also be like star allies ultimate choice mode where you can play as the enemies that have that ability overall it’s a simple little fighter for only $20 so i’d say it’s worth picking up

This game is if you added Kirby star allies and the other games that re like this and then you combine it with Smash Ultimate and mix it into one gigantic thing that people are willing to gobble up and play.

It’s more Kirby. The same controls as super Kirby clash and star allies but now in a smash bros esc fighter game. It’s good fun but it is even better with 4 players. The new ability wrestler may look like the suplex ability but it has a lot of things that make it different. Overall I like this game

I like the Kirby series. This game shows why, I haven't played the series that much and the latest game in the series is fun. Fighters 2 is a solid game building off from the 1st game. Nintendo did a good job with this game, And I recommend this game.

This is coming from the perspective of someone who has beaten the story mode and has played a bit of online. I have not played local multiplayer.
Overall, I would say this is a good game that packs a lor into such a small package and is worth the $20, as long as you're a fan of Kirby.
I'll get the bad out of the way first as they are mostly nitpicks. -As another reviewer mentioned, you

I'll get the bad out of the way first as they are mostly nitpicks.
-As another reviewer mentioned, you can't customize the controls, though I wouldn't say it makes the game unplayable. It can be cumbersome on the small joycons, but i'm sure if you play on a pro controller or gamecube controller you'll be just fine. But since the default controller is the joycons, the controls can feel a bit awkward, though this could also just be me.
-Online mode doesn't allow 1-on-1 fights, nor does it allow you to toggle items or hazards. This may be to pound in the point that this is meant to be a casual game, as Kirby should, but the fights can be outright chaotic, which can be to the detriment to those who wish to win by skill. I feel that this is the biggest issue, as well as one of the easier to fix, as in such a simple game, all you would need is a couple switches that players could toggle, those being how many players, hazards, and items.
-The boss diversity is very sparse. I won't spoil, but you'd be able to understand just after playing a couple chapters.
-Besides Bandana Dee, Gooey, and a few other exceptions, all of the fighter choices are copy abilities that are Kirby only. While this is more of a nitpick, it would have been nice to toggle between kirby and the creatures that kirby can get these abilities from, i.e. Knuckle Joe for Fighter, Waddle Doo for Beam, etc.
-In the story mode, though you can unlock them later, you can't start as Bandana Dee or Gooey, despite them being playable the second you start up the game in the other modes.

That's all the bad, but the good more than makes up for it.
-The game runs at 60 fps. This seems small, as that should be the standard for fighting games, but this is running on the same engine as Star Allies which ran at 30 fps, which means they were able to optimize the engine to better run on the Switch, which makes me hopeful for the quality of future kirby games.
-The game's music is incredible, all very nicely done remixes of previous kirby tracks. After a certain point in story mode, i was absolutely floored by what I was hearing.
-Story Mode, although simple, is great and has a ton of replayability, not just with the combination of who you play as and who you set your buddy as, but it has a system that, after each stage, allows you to pick an item that either gives you an upgrade to your health, attack, etc., or a "sticker" which gives you a special effect, such as increasing the amount of health you restore after each match, increasing power against bosses and certain enemies, decreasing damage taken from certain items, and more.
-Along with Story mode is a much more classic single-fighter game mode where you fight alone against enemies. This is typical in fighting games, but a welcome palatte cleanser in a fighter that incentivizes co-op play.
-The ranking system is very well implemented, letting you unlock fighters, stages, and even secret tracks and special constumes you can use besides the default hats. You can easily get up to rank 35-40 by playing Story Mode, but I have a feeling the bulk of the gameplay will be to get into the higher ranks.
-As stated in the negatives, the boss diversity is sparse. However, each fight with the final bosses of each chapter (who again I won't spoil, but you can probably figure out for yourself) manages to be a fresh experience, changing their fighting styles, adding in small animations that gove the bosses more personality, as well as a moment that I can't spoil.
-Though I didn't play a lot of it, the online feels very smooth, despite having to manage so much.
Again, for a $20 game, this is a very polished experience. There is a version number in the game, so there's a possibility they'll add updates, likely to balance the experience, hopefully to fix features to make the game a better experience, as well as possibly adding new fighters, but I'll hold my breath. A few simple changes can elevate this to an 8, but as it stands it is still a fun experience.

I like this since it demands strategy and planning ahead from the player. I never really thought that a Kirby game of all things would be hard but...here we are. There is also another mode called single-handed mode wich is the same as the mode from the first game, however, being honest the game can get very unbalanced when it's two against one. The CPUs are just WAYYYY too overpowered and it makes the mode on the hardest difficulty not very fun. Another downside is that the visuals look like they have been downgraded from Star Allies and Super Clash. The game looks very ugly and some of the textures look very fuzzy. The game also introduced some cosmetics for the copy abilities which are just a neat addition. The game also has a battle mode and an online mode, not much to say about them tbh. They're just fairly fun modes, battle mode allows you to adjust how powerful the AI is which is good if you want to relax while playing the game or want a better challenge. So overall, this is a pretty great fighting game, highly recommend it. Expand

Better than Smash Bros! This doesn't let Kirby down or say he's sht. This game is a proper representation of Kirby love. However, the online is not positive at all, but it's not HAL's fault. It's NINTENDO'S!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Kirby Fighters 2, despite being a fun game, is basically an all-star kirby version of Super Smash Bros Ultimate but only with numerous copy abilities and a few new ones. There easily could be side characters from Kirby main games such as Knuckle Joe, Susie, and Bonkers who could be playable characters. Story Mode can be a challenge when you reach chapter 5, and it can be very hard to progress further up the chapter if you don't get enough health stones to increase HP and attack stones to increase attack. Kirby Fighters 2 is a joyful and an easy going game that's a little bit on the conservative side in terms of the design choices. Its the perfect choice for old time Kirby fans, and also young players, who are not yet ready to partake in epic showdowns of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
