Developers understand the key points of good tower defense. Managing the upgrades, range, location, and combination of nearby towers are crucial components many tower defense games fail to bring along. While there are only 4 types of towers, they can be upgraded multiple times then evolved into one of two specialty towers depending on what you need for the level. Then the specialty tower can be equipped with special attacks like AoE damage, sleep, stun, damage share and damage increase among others.

Not only is the core tower defense good, but the heroes you can choose from and level up add another satisfying layer to strategy as they all play vastly different. In addition to the 4 base towers, most maps have unique enviromental towers like a gnome house where you can feed gnomes and they play tricks on the invading army, a dragon nest, giant poison bulbs you can pop when enemies walk past.

And on top of that, you have a reinforcements and thunder attack you can aim, and each hero gives you a third unique ability to that hero like turning enemies against each other, arrow rain, more reinforcements, or an instant kill on any one enemy.

Every lover of tower defense should play this game. And I didn't even mention then fun "where's waldo" style artwork, smooth animation, and detailed environments. Don't be afraid to poke around the environments with your touch screen, there are many useful secrets to discover.

Overall just an above average tower defense game that's so fun you'll want to try the harder runs on maps to unlock more stars for upgrades.

Although nearly identical to its predecessors, Kingdom Rush Origins stands out from the competition. This prequel proves its worth, with some smart changes, an undeniable charm, and a lasting shelf life as a go-to tower defense boredom buster.

Kingdom Rush Origins continues the tradition of supremely rewarding tower defence gameplay and it plays wonderfully on Switch.

Kingdom Rush Origins does a lot right, but it’s also got one major flaw that sours the experience. The gameplay is really slow overall; there are frequent moments where you’ll just be staring at the screen for extended periods of time, waiting for the enemies to waddle their way across the screen. It’s only until you get to the later waves of enemies that the flow of gameplay starts to pick up a bit. It’s a lumbering experience, and we reckon shorter, more intensive levels would be extremely beneficial.
