Hypnospace Outlaw is a game I had seen at release on PC, and I instantly knew I wanted to play it. Thankfully about a year later the Switch version was announced, and I could finally play a game I had wanted to play for a while. I pre-purchased the game as soon as I could and anxiously awaited the release date. I feel as if I could not have made a better purchase if I tried. Hypnospace Outlaw is such a creative and endearing experience that I cannot praise enough. Being a sort of simulation of an alternate reality operating system is an interesting concept by itself, but with the characters and their personalities, An amazing visual style, fantastic soundtrack, and a simple yet fun style of gameplay all come together to make this game one of my favorite indie games I've ever played. Plus, there's a solid integration of joystick and motion control options that feel natural, if a little odd at first. I will say that one drawback, albeit a small one, is that it does like to slow down every now and then when loading specific pages. Sometimes this makes the music play slower and causes the in-game cursor movement to be a bit a janky, but for the most part, this isn't a problem. If you want an amazing game to chill out with, whether it be at home in bed or out on the road, you definitley can't go wrong with the Switch version of this game. Expand

This game is one of the best satirical and nostalgic experiences I've had. Long before facebook consumed and consolidated every single website into what is now known as groups and pages, there existed a plethora of individual craftmanship and websites coded manually in html. I remember being in highschool and me and a couple of others used to compete to see who could make the best website. I, ofcourse, had the upper hand and sheer brilliance as I embedded a page visit counter at the bottom of my home page lololollll!! I also had a link to my poetry and a cool background. I was indeed l33t. Until they figured out how to replace the normal arrow cursor and give it some crazy weird trail, WITW.

Yes this was real and long forgotten until this game trolled me with my own past ambitions and artistic endeavours. And as laughable and cringey as it is looking back now, I really miss those days. But thank you No More Robots and Tendershoot for giving me one more chance to relive it with a huge smile and countles BWL moments. And did I mention, you play as an enforcer.

Tip: Plug a keyboard and mouse into your Switch. You're welcome.

One of the best narrative driven games I've ever played. It's presented in SUCH a vivid and interesting way, I couldn't put it down. Some of the puzzles get a little tricky later down the line but with an in-built hint system I had no problems with it! All the music is stellar all the way through, despite it all being from genres I'm not sure actually exist! A wonderful experience, wellOne of the best narrative driven games I've ever played. Haven't had so much diving into a fictional world in a long time! It's entirely text based which won't be for everyone but the fictional internet feels so rich and fleshed out.

I was a bit worried this wouldn't work as well on the switch as it does on PC, but playing on the go has been SO GOOD! It's a perfect re-creation of an internet sphere I was never part of, and I've still loved every second. What a fantastic, fantastic game.

The gameplay is not fun at all. It's just reading a bunch of websites to see what's wrong with them. There's a story, but the game is really a slow burn and it's not really that interesting.
However, the atmosphere and general mood of the game are really cool. It's a game I wish was actually more fun to play.

Hypnospace Outlaw suffers from a fundamental issue, that the gameplay just isn't interesting or enjoyable enough to make itself worth the effort. Many of the nostalgic web pages the game throws at you are interesting and a joy to witness, but their novelty fades fast, and makes the game feel empty when all you have is a mystery that doesn't feel very enjoyable to solve or witness. The game becomes enjoyable in the post game when you can just explore to your heart's content without the need to solve things, but you have to play through the game to get to that point so it's not really worth it. There will be nothing for you if you are millenial or zoomer. It is strong nostalgic for early Internet websites and that cosmic and intimate feeling of connection with other talented people who can revolutionize this world. It's a tragic story overall, so buy this game if you prepare to crying, not only taking fun. Have played it on the PC.

I made an account JUST so I could let everyone know that this game is quite literally not only one of my favourite games ever, but quite literally a dream come true. The game controls surprisingly well on nintendo switch, with many different control options! You can even plug in a keyboard and mouse for the authentic experience, and at that point you're really not losing out much! This game is amazing, it really is. It's games like this that make me sick at the thought that AAA companies are selling their games for even $70 nowadays, while indie devs make amazing experiences like this for such a great price. Please buy this game. You won't regret it! Expand

If you enjoy scavenger hunts, have some fond memories of the 1990s or, like me, have a passion for computers and the web, you will enjoy your role as a Hypnospace Enforcer. [Issue #51 – March/April 2021, p. 33]

Hypnospace Outlaw delivers a truly unique puzzling experience that’s so easy to lose hours at a time simply browsing the world it’s created. It’s sure to be a smile-inducing nostalgia trip for those familiar with the likes of Geocities but for the rest, there’s a truly wild and funny time to be had here also.

Hypnospace Outlaw is a fascinating experience that I wholeheartedly recommend. It is well-written and authentic, and while the early going may feel like completing chores, it soon tests the player’s detective skills. With cases that are satisfying to solve and a story that also applies to the internet as we know it today, it’s a must-play.
