This is a nice addition to your Switch library if you, like many, find Fritz Kahns mechanical body part designs appealing. Note that it can be finished in less than an hour, but the eShop price is quite fair for that. The puzzles are very simple and are just there to enhance the experience. I've played it in TV mode (wanted to see the designs in full) and have to deduct one point because the shaky mouse pointer controls often feel in your way (had to switch to tablet mode briefly because one ear puzzle was too difficult with them), and because it does not seem to be well-optimized (Switch becomes hot). While none of this is enough to make Homo Machina a must-play, at the same time, there’s enough worthwhile stuff going on here that it’s not not a must-play, either. I mean, it’s only $3 or so, and for that price you get a fun little story that wraps up nicely and never overstays its welcome. That’s hardly GOTY material, but it’s nothing to sneeze at, either.

Homo Machina is short, it can’t offer a noteworthy puzzle experience, and it also fails as an educational piece, but it’s a thoughtful little experiment that survives on style alone.

Homo Machina is a game with a very fun concept and an attractive art style that will put the player working on some interesting puzzles, before its short lifespan comes into view. The way it was converted to the Nintendo Switch also made Homo Machina a peculiar game to control and which loses a lot when played on a television screen. This is a game that would benefit a lot more from a longer lifespan and improved controls.
