Headsnatchers is an energetic, crazy local or online multiplayer game. General wonkiness with the controls leaves it a bit rough around the edges at times, but with a whole bunch of different objectives, the heavily-varied head-snatching gameplay is quite fun. The game does nothing to revolutionize couch multiplayer, but it’s a fun, cheap little game that anybody can get the hang of right away. It’s a solid title for a few family gatherings or kickbacks with friends. It is unlikely to find a permanent spot in anyone’s local multiplayer rotation, but if you’re in the market for a unique, colorful game that does a whole lot with its conventions, Headsnatchers is a great choice.

Headsnatchers is a cool premise let down by really poor controls. The multiplayer modes are pretty decent as a whole, with some of the more simplistic objectives providing the most frantic fun, for a little while. On the flip side, if you enjoy single-player experiences, avoid this one at all costs, because the one solo mode available is an absolute chore to play thanks to wonky movement and awful platforming mechanics.

Headsnatchers has a novel concept: your main aim is to rip off your opponents' heads, but each stage tasks you with using those heads to winHeadsnatchers has a novel concept: your main aim is to rip off your opponents' heads, but each stage tasks you with using those heads to win in a different way (i.e. feeding sharks, shooting baskets, overtaking opponents in an obstacle race). If the game was programmed competently, you could probably enjoy the novelty. As it is, movement is loose, button inputs don't register, and hitboxes only occasionally work. The whole affair is a blurry mess with enough bugs to halt gameplay. Without bots, you'll have a hard time ever playing the main multiplayer modes considering how difficult it is to convince others to torture themselves with this game. The developers only outdid themselves by making a single-player platforming campaign which is far worse than the main mode. Full Review »
