I was pleasantly surprised with how well this game is crafted, and how well it performs. The level designs are relatively simple (as it is mainly a 3D arena style brawler), but jam-packed full of character and love. You can bash your way through story mode in either one player or two player co-op, and once your familiar with the mechanics hop online and see if you can make it to the leaderboards competing against people from all over the world in real time. The music is actually amazing and the unique physics of this game make it one to definitely try out for yourself. Trust me when I say I’m confident you’ll ‘fall’ for this game. Expand

The laboratory mode is awesome, the game never looses its worth cause it changes every week!

The soundtrack is really cool to and adds so much tension and energy to the game play!

Super wholesome, endless fun for friends, family, or a way to fight it out with your enemies!

H Goonya Fighter is extremely quirky with its comical floppy characters combat game with solid online gameplay. There’s enough stuff to keep you occupied. The game also has alot of new DLC content available and its new laboratory mode for quirky battles with friends. which will draw you back into the fray time and time again. And is worth place on your nintendo switch

there are fun game modes that suit the maps and although there are not many what are there are very well done small maps with traps and pitfalls and the fighting mechanics are daft as a brush as when you strike an opponent it connects hard miss and you fall flat on your face...I give it an 8 as my kids love it....personally the price of the game swayed me its the right price any higher id pass imo its a must have digital title I didn't see much switch gameplay on YT so I did some glad I did need to spread the word when a good game gets released .

I’m not sure what I expected when I played Goonya Fighter for the first time; going in blind, except for seeing screenshots, I had no idea of the hilarity that awaited me. Goonya Fighter has a Minecraft-esque voxel aesthetic applied to its fighting game shenanigans, but – somewhat unexpectedly, for me at least – also applies deliberately wobbly ragdoll physics to the in-game characters. Control of your fighter is therefore a little unpredictable, but this is entirely intentional – and part of the game’s odd charm. Upon starting the game, you’re presented with a menu that comes with a decent array of options, including a robust story mode. The story mode is a great place to hone your awkward ragdoll fighter skills; plus, you’ll unlock multiplayer arenas and characters by playing through this mode too. Though there is a story, it's basic (rescue female character, Pudding!) – and this is just an excuse to have you taking on different challenges across some nicely designed arenas. There are environmental hazards - these can be fatal, though you do have a chance to struggle back to land if you do find yourself submerged in a waterlogged or quicksand covered area - to contend with, as well as AI fighters. The AI fighters tend to struggle a bit less to stay upright than a human controlled player will, but they do still flail around hilariously. Knocking them out or sending them flying off the arena, as is often the objective, is incredibly satisfying and always amusing. There’s a lot to like here - even before we talk about the multiplayer modes. Multiplayer battle modes are where you’ll have the most fun. Hand out the joycons to a few friends, start the battle mode and watch as everyone starts hammering the attack buttons before falling over within seconds. Everyone will be shouting and swearing at the TV and each other – and it’s glorious. Couch co-op/multiplayer is frequently cited as being dead or missing (seriously, the number of people I see on social media who say they miss it - when there are lots of great examples available, even in new games - is incredible), yet here’s another fantastic example of it on Switch. It’s chaotic and can, at times, be a little frustrating – but it’s undoubtedly a fantastic experience. Though very different in terms of mechanics, it has a very Bomberman-esque feel in terms of the 'controlled chaos' you'll experience with four players. The learning curve is gentle – unless you count keeping your fighter stable as something you have to get to grips with – so it’s a game that almost anyone can simply pick up and participate in. Modes such as coin battles and races add different ways to play than simple battles - and even the battles themselves can be played in teams, to even the odds against stronger players and give more inexperienced fighters a chance. There’s an online multiplayer option too, as well as the option to play through Story Mode with a second player (which is a really fun way to play). The options screen also mentions a ‘Laboratory’ as coming soon, though at this stage I’m not sure what that is. The biggest sticking point I have with Goonya Fighter is, unfortunately, the price – which does seem somewhat high, especially at first glance in the eShop - but having played through quite a bit of the game, it's clear that there's an awful lot of content included. It's also important to consider here that there are very few eShop indies with such a riotously fun multiplayer component. I've been obsessed with multiplayer Bomberman since the early 90s, and Goonya Fighter is one of the few games that comes close to that level of fun and accessibility - coming from me, I can assure you that's high praise indeed. There’s definitely a lot to like here; from the vividly colourful visuals to the unique, blocky characters (and their wobbly antics) in multiplayer or singleplayer mode, along with its open, hazard filled arenas; imagine playing Power Stone with characters so drunk they're in danger of falling over if they get too animated. If that sounds like your cup of tea, you should certainly give Goonya Fighter a try. Expand

The content is plentiful and rewarding as it's mostly based off of traditional unlock, although there is optional DLC. Thankfully, nothing is locked behind a paywall that pertains to core game elements. Being able to play co-op Story Mode and Online with a friend adds a nice touch. The music is upbeat and high-energy and meshes well with game play. Overall, it's a goofy, fun, and family friendly party game with little to know learning curve that tends to grow on you the more you play it and understand its physics and logic. Expand

The developers reached out to me wanting me to review their game, the fact that any developer reached out to me that early in the development of my site was something I was incredibly thankful for. Adding all of that with the fact that Goonya Fighter is such a fun game, the controls aren't too difficult or convoluted to figure out, I love the modes and I go back and play it a couple of times throughout the months. There are updates from time to time and new modes being added every little while, so there's a form of support for the game even after its launch. I will always have the privilege of saying the first game I ever reviewed on my site was Goonya Fighter and I wouldn't have it any other way, MUTAN, I applaud you. Expand

For what this game is, I enjoy it a lot. It's just goofy, ragdoll fighting fun. The story was a decent experience to play through, and having a separate version for 2 players adds some more completion to it.

Online is great and runs smoothly most of the time, unless a player lags. When they do, they can potentially have the advantage over everyone else depending on how badly they're lagging. The near bi-weekly online event modes are definitely a nice addition to keep things varied.

But speaking of variety, I kinda wish there was some extra mechanic in terms of moves. Maybe a quick dodge that you can only use so often. Perhaps taking the form of a parry when you successfully block a regular kick or punch. Something like that would make the game that much better in my opinion.

Now for the bigger complaints: 1 ) once you hit level 7 and beyond, the amount you win vs the amount you lose (mainly to lower levels) can be a killjoy. So rather than fully enjoying the game, you have to be focused on winning every time no matter what, or you could lose half an hour to an hour of progress. I know that's the challenge of getting higher up in ranks, but it'd be a lot nicer if toned down a bit, especially for 2v2s, as you don't have complete control on whether you win or lose.

2 ) As some may have mentioned, the standard price is a bit much. I bought it during its super sale, which then it was beyond a steal. If the price of the game was lowered, the extra cosmetics and modes that players have to pay for could make up for it.

Overall, the game is fun to me, but it definitely isn't to everyone's tastes.

Goonya Fighter just came out and it's quite a nice, fun, multiplayer surprise. Let me begin by saying that I searched all over the internet for a review or some sort of feedback on this game and I could not find any. It is on sale as the writing of this early "review" (for less than $5) and let me give those wondering about this game my early impressions.

    What is this Game?
Goonya Fighter is an arena fighter/party game where you select one of 6 fighters and bash it out against up to 3 other players.

    Gameplay:
You may fight versus the computer or other players (with one console), create a local game lobby (for multiplayer gaming with multiple consoles), or join an online game (by yourself or with a friend) against other online players. There is also a story mode that acts as a tutorial for the game (which includes an overworld map and unlockables as you progress). Eventually you'll be able to pair up with a friend when playing in story mode.
There are 4 game options, or rules as the game calls them, when in versus mode. You may play BATTLE mode which is the main arena fighting mode of player vs player, COIN BATTLE mode where you battle your opponents while collecting as many coins as you can before the timer runs out, RACE mode which is a race against other players by touching red flags placed in the arena in the correct order while trying to mess up your opponents, and RANDOM mode which chooses a mode for you at random.
There are 6 fighters to choose from and I have not found any difference between them other than their appearance. The control scheme is very simple. You move with the left stick, jump with the X button, kick with the B button, punch with the A button, and block with the Y button. That's it!
The physics in this game are a bit floaty and hilariously ragdoll-like. I have not found the physics annoying, in fact, it goes well with the type of game that the developers were going for... silly and funny. If you run/walk around the arena for a little while your fighter might stumble and fall leaving you vulnerable which makes it a good idea to jump a lot in order to avoid this and move faster around the arena. The 6 available arenas are moderate in size and in all of them you may kick/punch your opponents out of bounds for some big damage (not a one-fall win).
In terms of music, it's very good and exciting to listen to while battling it out. The game's main theme gives me the Street Fighter 2 main theme vibe while on the title screen.

    My Conclusions:
For $5 (not it's regular $20 or so price tag) this game is awesome as a fun arena fighter/party game. Its simplicity allows anyone to pick up and play no matter their age or skills. There are enough options to keep you invested for a while, plus the developer seems to have some things planned in the near future since there is a LABORATORY option which is currently locked away. Hopefully this option will allow the creation of your own arenas or fighters. If you are looking for a wacky multiplayer game to play with friends or pass the time, this is not a bad option, specially at $5.
In the negative, the game is a bit bare bones. It is just a simple arena fighter with limited game modes. I will keep playing this game and if anything changes with my impressions, I'll update accordingly.

The controls are so simple to pick up and suit a Switch joycon perfectly. The game is beautifully presented with smooth solid visuals, catchy music and the characters themselves could very well pass for a cool toyline.
The gameplay is quite unique. You have keep your character stood up, whilst merrily punching and kicking away at your opponents. The rag doll physics really give the game character.
It's great fun booting your friends into breakable scenery, throwing bombs at them or why not shove your opponents into the many hazards in the many arenas?
What really elevates Goonya Fighters for me is the many game modes.
The Story Mode really adds depth to the game. Travelling around map sceens and facing so many different kinds of gameplay whilst the story unfolds.
As well as standard fights for 1 to 4 players. You have coin battles and races.

There's plenty of DLC for Goonya Fighters too. The game doesn't rely on it, which is just as well. I'm not the biggest fan of micro transactions in games.

If you're fed up of the same old 'Street Fighter' clones, retro inspired, scrolling beat em ups, wrestling games and Smash Bro wanabes. I highly recommend Goonya Fighters for any single player, party or family.

    Bravo!!

You'll be falling over constantly as you attempt to smack the seven shades outta your opponents... who are also struggling to keep upright. Much like a fight in a bar after many rounds. There's loads of variety here on offer with many different modes to compete in. It's best played with other live opponents but can be enjoyed as a single player challenge.

My only gripes with the game was the music. It got a bit repetitive after a couple of hours play but this could be easily addressed in future updates or possibly a sequel.

Worth picking up if you're a Twitch streamer!
