Flowing Lights is an Arcade Puzzle Shooter. Each fight is a puzzle. Attack and... Fail! ...Think back... try again! Got it? Improve with each try, there is always a smarter way to win! Why is Flowing Lights different from other shooting games?
Puzzle elements! They offer a challenge for the brain on top of the immediate fun of destroying monsters. Deeper challenges, deeper sense of achievement! How do these puzzle elements work?
Each fight has been designed as a puzzle that requires a new tactic. Thanks to a unique system of terrain and physics, bullets flow like a liquid and create new and gripping gameplay situations. The goal is not only to destroy all enemies but also to find the right tactic to do so! This may require several attempts so Flowing Lights has been designed to facilitate experimentation. Failing and retrying is part of the game! Fights can be restarted instantly and without any penalty. Target audience:
Flowing Lights was designed to be easy to learn and difficult to master. It's a game for players who like a challenge. Each fight can be won with 4 levels of achievement: C, B, A and S. Ranks A and S can only be achieved by completing all Combos, which adds new challenges for the best players. However, the game is easily accessible with playable tutorials and training modes.

All in all, Flowing Lights is a pretty novel mash-up of a vertical shoot-em-up and a precision puzzler. It has a ton of style, but the Switch port is let down by some imperfect controls and performance issues. It’s worth a look if you’re into shmups or slightly more fast-paced puzzle games, but you’re probably better off checking it out on PC rather than Switch.

Flowing Lights is a unique title that takes the arcade shooter in a new direction. The mixture of puzzles and bullet-bending gravity helps to freshen an aging genre by adding a layer of strategy. Although the title is marred with unimaginative aesthetics, the ingenuity soaked within the gameplay will communicate with fans of retro titles. Releasing at a budget price, this is definitely worth a shot.

Flowing Lights has smooth controls with great physics mechanics, but the levels become repetitive after a while with little replay value.

MashingAs someone who celebrates games that take chances to do something new, to a degree Flowing Lights feels like a game made just for me. Mashing together the unlikely pair of a shooter with a puzzle game, I’ll admit that initially I found myself caught a bit off guard as it was showing me the ropes. That said, once it clicked, I became a fan, enjoying the challenge of some bullet dodging and strategy mixed with the challenge of dealing with curved surfaces and how the bullets’ paths will bend with the landscape. Certainly the look is a bit bare bones, though I enjoy the light neon-lit TRON vibes so I didn’t mind, and the concept won’t likely work for everyone but I applaud the effort to swim against the current and chart out new territory. Throw in the inclusion of leaderboards for each level, incentivizing you to work harder to come up with better ways to beat each level and the old school arcade fan in me really dug this unique, and often challenging, experience.

The music is very atmospheric and I like the graphics style they have adopted here. Unfortunately I found some of the later 'puzzling' levels to be more frustrating than challenging to the point where I considered not bother finishing this (short) game. It is a shame there are not more action based 'shooting' stages to mix things up a bit more. I did come back the next day to finish off the last 35 levels and actually found the experience both challenging and enjoyable. If you like the look of the trailer this might still be worth picking up on sale, but I really can't rate this game any higher than a 7/10. because I only expect to get a maximum of 4 to 5 hours of gameplay out of this title.
