Dec 21, 2020Once I got over the initial hump and learned its systems, Evolution genuinely surprised me with its depth of strategy and breadth of content. The Switch version leaves a lot to be desired in terms of performance, and for now, despite my usual misgivings of the platform, I’d honestly recommend the mobile version. But if Evolution wants to survive on Switch in the wilds of the eShop, it would be wise to take a queue from nature and find a way to adapt.

Dec 17, 2020The Switch has a surprisingly good range of digital board games now, and the absolutely brilliant Wingspan is just around the corner. Evolution holds its own; it's an entertaining game mechanically, and benefits from being accessible to players of all ages and having an educational thrust behind it. It's no lecture, nor is it preachy, but it will certainly help you frame an understanding (and interest) in ecosystems and evolution. All brought together, it's a wholesome good time.

Dec 16, 2020While not as seamless as A Game of Thrones: The Board Game in its overall playability, Evolution Board Game does present a well-thought-out attempt at bringing a board game from the coffee table to the Nintendo Switch. If Evolution Board Game had spent more time on the offline co-op play, the game could have really been amazing, but with an AI opponent for most matches that don't require the internet, players may find that the original tabletop edition has more to offer as a family game.
