Eastward is not only a great and beautiful homage to classic adventures, but also a fantastic retro-inspired videogame with strong references to Zelda action and puzzles.

For a game that loves strangeness, it only extends that love to a certain kind of strange person who is harmless and normative, who looks and acts the right kind of weird. Sure, it has a big heart. I just wish it was bigger, and that its teeth were sharper.

That’s all it’s got going for it. If pressing the A button to advance boringly written and tedious dialogue is your idea of fun, this game is for you! The story is a drag. You get to walk from point a to point b and MAYBE there will be a short puzzle or some combat, but the bulk of this game is story heavy. And it feels like it was written by a juvenile boy. So sad. Really wanted to love this game. Full Review »
