Superb stuff, absolutely superb. I am just under half way through and every map is better than the last. It's full of surprises too. As a huge fan of Doom 1&2,Quake and Duke Nukem 3D,I can't recommend Dusk enough.

Out of all the retro style FPS games, this has by far the best normal campaign mode.

They have perfected the controls and gameplay. Everything feels spot on.

It's a shame they didn't include the death matches with bots like quake did but its still well worth the money.

"Dusk‘s reputation is well deserved. With fantastic level design, and guns that are a blast to use, this is first person shooting at its finest. It’s cathartic, it’s intense, it’s so damn satisfying. Despite losing a little of its momentum at the end, it’s still a shooter that fans of the genre need to experience."

While retro shooters have become somewhat popular once again in recent timers, Dusk is an excellent example of a retro shooter done right, at least for the most part. Stretching over 3 acts, Dusk's level design changes significantly as you progress through the game, starting simple and understandable, but progressively becoming more trippy as the game reaches its climax. With a finely balanced set of weapons and an extremely enjoyable set of movement options, the overall gameplay of Dusk feels extremely satisfying to execute. That being said, the level design sadly seems to falter in the 2nd chapter, with only one level standing out amongst the otherwise lacking designs in that chapter. Despite that, the levels in the 1st and 3rd chapter more than make up for that, with the 3rd chapter being especially excellent. As far as modern retro shooters go, Dusk is one of the best as an overall package. Expand

When I played just a demo of this well over a year ago at PAX East on the Switch hardware I knew it had massive potential, and playing the release version all I can say is “Bravo!” to the folks at New Blood for their efforts. Don’t let the old school low-poly look fool you, beneath that is a silky smooth FPS experience with level designs that feel both retro and modern somehow, and best of all that will throw some genuine surprises at you that help to get the blood pumping. The recent remaster of Quake was great for the opportunity to revisit a true classic, but I’m also happy to have it fresh in my mind to be confident in saying Dusk manages to run some laps around it that reflect far more capable modern hardware and some evolving gaming sensibilities. Whether playing in handheld or in docked mode this is a dual-wielding (dual shotguns are a rush) shooter that is insane in all the best ways, chock full of more secrets than you could throw a decapitated head at, priced perfectly, and even comes with a little throwback extra goodie demake, Dust ‘82, that plays well in its own right.

This game is absolutely mind blowing! You feel like you are tripping! Superb gameplay, very intense and surprising, also very scary, I got goosebumps at several points. Such a cool game! Recommended to all shooter fans! Runs perfect on the switch! A surreal nerdy masterpiece!

DUSK's smarts are what really make it work. Every level is brilliantly paced and thoughtfully spaced to inspire on-the fly strategies to survive this wholly unfair onslaught of terror. [Issue #57 – January/February 2022, p. 19]

Dusk is a fantastic game. I think it loses a little bit by being on the Switch as controlling such a fast character with a controller just doesn’t feel as good as it does with mouse and keyboard. Combine that with a weapon wheel that doesn’t slow time, and you can have some chaotic moments that come from annoyance as you struggle to get the weapon you want while bunny-hopping around. Still, the atmosphere, level design, and pure frenetic gameplay are more than enough to make up for these minor drawbacks. Dusk on Switch is a horrifically good time, and being able to take it on the go is worth a few compromises.

The combat is massively satisfying, the visual storytelling and details are consistently delightful – Dusk is an almost perfect first person shooter and this is a perfect port.
