I feel like Im playing a 3D version of Shining Force ! This game just makes you wanna take a bubble bath, put on some sweatpants, eat a space cookie and just chillax and see which way the game takes you next! I guess in Japan this game is so popular that it has to be released on the weekend otherwise the entire country will take the day off to stay home and play it. I can honestly see why! I have also heard that its very popular in Japan to play after a bubble bath and although I have not taken a bubble bath and played it I can assure you its on my list of thing to do once I acquire some bubbles.
I dont want to beat a dead horse on the bubble bath thing but dood, this game is so chill and enjoyable! Its not too hard and not too easy, its not too confusing and not too simple and its the perfect way to pass a tired night or sleepy Sunday. Its straight up RPG nostalgia bliss and I need some bubbles!

Boring and repetitive in lots of aspects, not the best JRPG from this generation, particulary Ys VIII shines if compared to it. The best part is sylvando, veronica and jade.

The story is about as generic as it gets for the main game though i personally really enjoyed the story of the post game, and the voice acting and writing isn't that good but its not terrible either for the most part. The graphics are great and the basic turn-based combat and exploration and so much fun I didn't stop playing the game until i beat it and moved on to FE Three Houses. If you're not sure if you want the switch or ps4 version i would personally recommend this version due to the new 2d mode that is included and the ability to switch to the dq8 over-world music if you ever get tired of the dq11 over-world music(which is still great). I would only play this if you are in the mood for a long jrpg and don't mind a generic story, asides from that i loved it. Expand

It is a masterfully crafted turn-based JRPG from beginning to end with little compromise in being jammed into the Switch's tiny form factor. It's charming in it's presentation, world and characters, at times side-achingly funny and at the times it needs to be deadly serious. Alas, even the definitive version of this game on the Nintendo Switch has some problems, but it is a diamond with a chip and nothing more.
The characters are interesting and varied (although one's portrayal becomes a bit uncomfortable at a certain point in the story), the story is simple but engaging and the game-play, although very traditional and simple, achieves what it sets out to do to perfection. This version's sweeping orchestral score is amazing, but a complaint arises with how little variety there is. You'll be hearing a lot of the same tracks again and again, especially the over-world and battle tunes. This is a problem not just limited to this particular entry, but it is still annoying to see this repeated in what is otherwise an amazing experience.
Another complaint is related to the story. Essentially, the game is split into 2 main acts with a hefty epilogue section. Although we won't spoil it for you, we found the conclusion of the second act when the credits roll to be completely satisfying, and we actually found that the epilogue sequence took a lot out of the gravity of the narrative thus far. This is a problem that appears in another Nintendo Switch Square Enix title's epilogue content, The World Ends with You -Final Remix-. Although it is by no means a deal-breaker, and you can easily not engage with the third act and call it quits at the end of the second act (the credits do roll and exit you out back to the main menu after all), it is still a shame that such a course of action was taken.
Outside of that, DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is a testament to the franchise's lasting popularity and unique charm, and a defining title that proves why the series is still referred to as "the King of the JRPG's". A spectacular JRPG experience with some slight nitpicks.

Best game to introduce you to the JRPG genre. It is a masterpiece and runs surprisingly good on the switch. Game is a must not only for jrpg fans but for everyone. Every scene is well delivered every character voice is on point (speaking of the English). Its a easy 9.5-10/10 the only thing that can be improved is to make the main character more alive by giving him Voice.

Definitely one of the best JRPGS i've ever played. My nostalgia got hit pretty good.
Epic from start to finish, filled with great characters and a compelling story. Not much to complain about this game.
I just wish the soundtrack was better used and the enemy variety was bigger. Other than that, this is the best in the franchise.

A lot of content, diverse characters and a great atmosphere. Just the typical Dragon Quest game.

The graphics are a bit of a letdown though, it looks like a ps2 game at best. The music can also be quite annoying. It's incredibly repetitive.

Overall a really good game though

    What I don't like:
    - No HD rumble. No rumble at ALL. Very disappointing!!
    - Battle music sounds like it's from an cheesy old 70s batman episode.
    - The music is not very varied. The main theme is used too many places, it gets tiresome.
    - If you turn off the music, some of the sound effects are also gone (level up sounds etc)
    - Pop-ins - a LOT of pop-ins. It is very distracting at first but ok when ur used to them.
    - Not native 1080p, but who would expect that on the Switch anyways.

But overall a mighty fine port!!!

Its a really good game and offers hours upon hours of solid gameplay. It comes with a good but stereotypical storyline but that being said: the story is well written and never gets boring.
The biggest downside to me is the "two endings". Why even show credits after the first ending, when it isnt the real ending after all? That makes no sense.
Do I recommend it? 100%. It is really good.

I would give it a 9/10 if the combat would give the player more information like how long does a buff/debuff last, how many hp do the enemies have (roughly), what are they weaknesses, what spells do they use and what school are those spells. That would allow more preperation and all in all more satisfying combat.

This version was more than a port, it was a complete remaster that fixed all the problems the PS4 version was known to have including several new features, lots of new content, and a fully orchestrated soundtrack that made the music amazing. There's so much you can do in this game that even though I just finished it, I'm sad to stop because I want to fill every side quest, every monster entry, and even craft all the items. Overall, there are not many negative things I can say about Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition. This version took the foundation of an already truly excellent RPG experience and built upon it further, offering new features and quality of life improvements along the way. I poured over a hundred and twelve hours into Dragon Quest XI S, which is more than I've spent on any other RPG recently, and I never once looked back with regret as I wholeheartedly fell in love with the gameplay and story. Having only played Dragon Quest XI S, I can't say for certain if there is enough new content here to warrant an additional playthrough, but if you've yet to play Dragon Quest XI and have access to a Nintendo Switch, this version is truly the "Definitive Edition" that the title claims it is.

Dragon Quest XI S is a game for both long-time fans and newcomers alike. There are many Easter eggs and references to past Dragon Quest games that will subtly reward fans, but at the same time, the charming world of Erdrea and its characters are appealing to newcomers of all ages. Even those who have played the previous versions of Dragon Quest XI may find the vast improvements of the Switch version compelling enough for another round, especially with the Tickington quests, new character content, and marriage options. This game is a masterpiece, and it sets a new high standard for not only the series, but console RPGs in general. Hopefully the series will continue outdoing itself with further instalments.
