You were desperate for money to pay the rent, so you've accepted a job offer at a doll factory. What seemed like a way to make an easy buck, turned out to be something much more sinister.

Why are you the only worker at the factory? Why does the director never leave his office? What happened to the previous employee? And what's wrong with these suspicious dolls?

You will not be chased by monster. Nothing will scream or jump into your face. You don't have to fight anyone or strive for resources.

At the same time, this is not a chill game. It's still a horror game. You will feel scared, unease and oppressive feelings, like you're being watched or something will happen to you. Something definitely will.

Dollmare is a deliciously creepy game that executes simple gameplay in a thoroughly effective and unsettling way. The unnerving story combined with an absorbing routine makes for a fun, if brief, experience that delivers a lot for such a low price point.

Dollmare is effective in its horror atmosphere, with its short duration working in its favour by keeping the simplistic, repetitive arcade gameplay fun. The factory setting also benefits from the brief length, retaining its effectiveness as the game ends before it becomes tiring.

Its controls, though, can be stiff and slow at times, which makes some segments more frustrating than they should. There's also a lack of variety in the mechanics, and its puzzles could be more creative. Dollmare works better as a short, subtle atmospheric horror experience that can be finished in one go, rather than as an ambitious adventure.
