Please don't be lured in by constant comparisons to stranger things and zelda. This is nothing close to the quality of either.
The game is surprisingly story driven and personally the story was very uneventful. Just the usual end of the world stuff without any surprises or memorable moments.
The art style and 80's aesthetic are fantastic and for the first few hours I was enjoying it

The art style and 80's aesthetic are fantastic and for the first few hours I was enjoying it quite a bit. Sadly you'll find that platforming is poorly implemented and often frustrating.
Switching between 5 characters sounds like an interesting idea but few of these characters are well implemented. You'll probably stick with blue haired chris for most of the game.
Combat is ok but very basic. Characters have one attack and can also use a bomb or a kind of flash grenade. It's not particularly fun but it works.
There are also a few sections which change up the gameplay entirely. One section for example involves you cycling and trying to avoid obstacles while you're being chased.... it's just horribly frustrating...
Also cutscenes aren't skippable... if you die in a boss fight you may have to rewatch the intro. Finally there are a few sections in which i found the framerate really started to chug. One platforming section and a section just before the end of the game. It's a small gripe but worth noting especially considering this isn't a visually taxing game.
I went in with the highest of hopes having played so many great indie titles recently like night in the woods, inside, minit, dead cells, hollow knight etc. Crossing Souls is a waste of your time and money.
Please don't buy it. Buy one of the many many many better indie titles available on switch...

Very shallow game with not a lot to offer. This game is not worth it on the Switch, really terrible performance and controls make this a hard pass.

This game is like Devolver Digital, all style and no substance.

Not terrible but definitely forgettable. Buggy at places and the controls are pretty bad which makes some of the platforming frustrating. I lost interest in the story towards the end.

At a first glance, Crossing Souls is one of the most impressive indie games of the year thanks to its superb art style. Unfortunately, some nasty bugs and annoying platforming section takes away some of its charm.

Crossing Souls definitely ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to a 1980s homage. The story is well written, and the developers have done a decent job of bringing me down memory lane. Despite the moments of hair-pulling ridiculousness that is precision platforming that seemingly fights against the rest of the game, Crossing Souls is definitely worth checking out for ‘80s fans.

If only the rest of the game could live up to those visuals. Crossing Souls works just fine as a vessel for rose-tinted '80s nostalgia, but shallow storytelling and gameplay that shifts from uninteresting to outright frustrating ensures that it never gets to be anything more than that.
