    While I didn't feel compelled to carry on with the game after I finished the main objective (for me the story ended there), I loved every minute.

    Celeste is the best 2D platformer ever created when you judge it by the game alone. There's a reason this is becoming one of the most speedran games ever. Its movement has an immensely high skill cap. While technically your movement options are limited to climbing, dashing, and jumping, they aren't really. Because using these movement options together leads to so much more. For example, ifCeleste is the best 2D platformer ever created when you judge it by the game alone. There's a reason this is becoming one of the most speedran games ever. Its movement has an immensely high skill cap. While technically your movement options are limited to climbing, dashing, and jumping, they aren't really. Because using these movement options together leads to so much more. For example, if you jump, dash diagonally to the ground at the right time, and then jump again, you do a super jump where you have the speed of a dash but can dash again. And that's only scratching the surface of complex movement techniques.
    There is also an amazing story in this game. If someone tells you that it wasn't subtle enough, that's because the subtle parts are so subtle that they couldn't notice them. There are some bits of the theme that are blasted in the player's face, but other bits require deep analysis. Almost every mechanic is symbolic of something.
    Then there is the music. It's great. For me, the highlights are chapters 2 and 7, but every piece is amazing. The dynamic soundtrack fits the music to whats happening in the level very well, and it's more than just "when the game gets more fast-paced, speed up the music."
    And then there is the pacing. Even the 4 screen long tutorial has thought put into it's pacing. Difficult sections were followed up by easier ones, etc.
    But the thing that makes this game so great is how the game manages to put you in Madeline's shoes. You are determined when she's determined, you are worried when she's worried, and you are happy when she's happy. You experience Madeline's emotions in a way that only a video game could do.
    While this game might look like some nostalgiac attention grabber with pixel-art graphics. Celeste uses more modern game design than most studios can claim they do. Celeste is without a doubt looking forward for its design.

    Not gonna lie, took me a while to get into this one. It didn’t grab me in the way I expected it to after hearing all the hype. But after pushing through that stage I fully appreciate the singular vision of the gameplay and got to the top of the mountain. Now it’s something I revisit to get more strawberries, do b-sides etc and can see myself playing on and off in the future. It can beNot gonna lie, took me a while to get into this one.     Fantastic thought and clever design makes this tough as nails platformer undeniably enjoyable. A beautiful game that kept me trying over and over and OVER to get those strawberries. Couldn’t put it down! A must play!

    The best game about climbing a mountain. It's difficult but the messages and gameplay are amazing. I would not recommend this for people who are bad at platformers or don't play them often though. It's awesome. Controls work better with a d-pad, but I beat it with thumbsticks. The movement is 8 directional, so a thumbstick with grooves would also work well.

    Un juego muy difícil y que te reta a completar niveles hasta que te canses. El juego te tiene pegado a el ya que el gameplay puede llegar a ser adictivo y nunca te cansas de jugarlo, responde muy bien. Uno mejor plataformas que he jugado , ademas de que la historia es muy buena.

    Frustratingly hard at times, yet impossible to put down, with a genuinely touching story; this game is an indie masterpiece. Whilst not perhaps for everyone, I would recommend everyone give it atleast give it a try.

    I bought the digital version of this game for $10. The critics have this ranked as a top 5 game. It’s not a top 5 game, and not even a steal at $10. It is, however, a very solid and difficult platformer with a great story. It takes about 8-10 hours to beat and a lot more to 100% by collecting all the strawberries. And now that it goes on sale for $5, it is a steal. Go out and get it.

    The gameplay is designed meticulously and yet presented in a simple and accessible to the player. The game feels good to play, and the moveset is still one of the most expansive with such a small amount of buttons required. The level design for everything is phenomenal.     The level design for everything is phenomenal. In each screen, a clear goal is set, and you are not punished for failing. Pretty much all of the gimmicks are interesting and engaging, and all combinations of these gimmicks are used to their utmost potential.

    The story is touching and deep, with an expressive and engaging dive into the troubles of mental illness without dismissing or taking advantage of those who experience anxiety and depression themselves.

    And the music...just listen on Spotify. I believe these are some of the greatest songs ever made.

    Celeste is a beautiful game and definitely deserves the praise, HOWEVER, I do think more casual or beginner gamers should be wary because at it's core this is a precise and difficult platformer. I was looking for something to play after finishing Hollow Knight and kept seeing Celeste pop up, I was sucked in by the praise and got it.
    But I quickly realised it was a little outside my skill    Celeste is a beautiful game and definitely deserves the praise, HOWEVER, I do think more casual or beginner gamers should be wary because at it's core this is a precise and difficult platformer. I was looking for something to play after finishing Hollow Knight and kept seeing Celeste pop up, I was sucked in by the praise and got it.

The steep learning curve made it a bit less enjoyable for me starting out, so unless you know you love fast-paced, challenging platformers you may want to reconsider buying the game.

The seven main story chapters all feature challenging , but never unfair platforming, great retro visuals and a great soundtrack by lena raine. There are a ton of collectibles scattered around the levels like strawberries, Tapes that unlock the B-Sides of every level and a crystal heart that is needed to progress through Chapter 8. After beating Chapter 1 to 8 and their B-Sides, you unlock the C-Sides which were the most fun I ever had in a 2D-Platformer. The perfect game for people that like difficult 2D platformers.… Expand

    One of the few games to fully live up to the hype around it. I waited to play it because I felt like it was getting overpraised. This game is 100% worthy of that praise. It's a fantastic platformer with a unique story. Highly recommend.

    Celeste is one of my favourite npcs in animal crossing. The use of an owl for a space focused npc is simply genius storytelling, as the night is black as well space and the darkness that envelopes my soul

    Fantastic game and EXTREMELY challenging. Probably the most difficult game I have ever played. It tracks how many times you die and cumulatively I'm at 2000+ deaths now. Somehow the quick reset of the screen when you die keeps you retrying the same screen for 20, 30 or even 50 times to get past it. Even with the insane difficulty you can make just enough progress that you can eke your wayFantastic game and EXTREMELY challenging. Probably the most difficult game I have ever played. There's a lot of content post game, b-sides, c-sides, and strawberries + the two bonus levels. The puzzles really had me perplexed at times and it was all the more satisfying to figure them out because of that. It took a while to sink in, but visually the game is just gorgeous. You can really tell this game was a labor of love to make. And the music, oh my god the music, Lena Raine really pulled out all the stops on this project. It perfectly fits and is a mirror image to the gameplay. Beautiful compositions. It feels like the music is almost encouraging you on with inspirational melodies and friendly vibes. In fact every aspect of this game seems to encourage you from the music to the story, to the visuals, to the mechanics, it all just feels encouraging no matter how many times you die. And that is brilliant game design. I would give it a 10 but I've been rating games on the Anthony Fantano scale where 10 is pure perfection and virtually nothing reaches that height. Sue me. And with the money you get from the settlement buy this game. You won't regret it.… Expand

I never thought I would be able to beat them, but I got better. And that's what makes Celeste such a fantastic game. It's genuinely great at getting you to overcome obstacles that seem impossible, which fits greatly with the game's themes.

    Celeste is about the difficulty of The End is Nigh, but is far less frustrating than that game. I attribute this to the game's music, which is INCREDIBLE. It's funny how much of a difference such a small thing makes. When you keep hearing the same track over and over again, it had better be a good track.

    I'd recommend playing with a D-Pad for an ideal experience. The sticks work, but they can be a bit annoying with the 8-way dashing.    … Expand

    A fun indie platformer with an extremely depressing story and vibe. Put on a podcast, mute the music, and press A repeatedly during the dialogue, and you will have a blast because the gameplay is awesome.

Celest has some of the nicest feeling platforming that I have experienced in a while. The use of the dash mechanic and the environment is both creative and frustrating (yet fair). Technically the game is great. It runs so smoothly and feels very responsive. No platforming and dash mechanics aren’t new, but they are shined to a mirror Polish here. Celest is a lot of fun and well worth the price. It isn’t a very long game, but it doesn’t need to be. There are several challenges and unlockables. However to achieve and see all of the content, it is a whole new level of difficulty, that I don’t think most players would be willing to endure.… Expand

If if is too hard you can turn on Assist Mode, and if it is too easy, there is tons of additional side content that is just as good as the main story. The story is well written with great characters, and covers very sensitive topics very well. The pixel art is great and so is the soundtrack.     A very nice precision platformer in which the antiquated and basic style of the in-game sprites stands in perfect opposition to the magnificent backgrounds and the beautiful music which intensifies during the playthrough of the different chapters. For once the goal isn't to rescue a kidnapped person or to save the world, a most refreshing aspect in a platformer.

    The controls are flawless. The graphics are amazing. The music is really beautiful. The levels are HARD though, man.

    But the STORY. The story is what kept me trying. I usually don't care for the stories in games, but when I got to the breathing feather part...thing, I knew this game was special.

For me, CELESTE is one of those games where is emotionally touching, insightful, and sincere when it tells its story of Madeline's journey of her mental health and her self-reflection; and with difficult but fair platforming, creative level design, and gameplay for players in speedrunners alike, it's one of the best 2D Platformers in years; here are some of my gripes about the game even if it's minor such as some inputs with the left analogue stick are off, some of the B-side Chapters are hard for me to beat, and most of all, some of the parts of the game is not cohesive at times leading to some parts of the game feeling like it's a bit off, and the phenomenon is called ludonarrative dissonance like in Chapter 3: Celestial Resort and the only stage does not have this problem is Chapter 9: Farewell (which I didn't reach, for now); It's still a great game in any platform you choose to play.

    La historia de este juego es maravillosa, La historia trata de una chica llamada Madeline, Ella se decide a una cosa escalar la montaña celeste la cual da titulo al juego, Se encontrará muchos desafíos mediante avanza hacia su objetivo como también se encontrará muchos aliados me gustaría comentar mas de este apartado, Pero no quiero arruinar la experiencia se los digo de verdad esta historia es maravillosa no puedo describirla de otra forma, Como dije en el punto anterior ¿Por Qué Te Motiva Seguir Avanzando En El Juego?, Es básicamente por esto, Por la historia, En mi caso cada vez que perdía en el juego quería seguir avanzando y avanzando para saber como acababa esta historia quería saber que pasaría con madeline y su objetivo o los demás personajes secundarios, La historia es el motivo por el que se requiere avanzar en el juego siendo demasiado difícil.

    Soundtrack:

    Nunca suelo hablar de esto en mi reseñas, Pero cuando se trata de un juego como celeste se tiene que hablar, El soundtrack es uno de los mejores soundtracks de todos los videojuegos, Una música tan perfectamente lograda con los escenarios del juego, Una música muy relajante, suspensiva, desafiante, motivacional etc. La música es una de las mejores cosas de este juego.

    Possibly the best 2d platformer out there? Loved how every level felt absolutely impossible to beat, only to die time and time again and ending up beating one level after another. Extremely challenging, and very rewarding

    Damn, this game is hard but once and you will die a lot but when you get the motions needed its the closest experience to flying! One of the greatest platforming games every made. Celeste's ability to tell a difficult story has to be mentioned specially.

The way this game tackles mental health problems is great and the music in the game is fantastic. For someone casually playing through the game this isn’t the easiest but when you beat a hard part of a level you feel like a god. For those who want a challenge this game definitely delivers with alternate versions of each level that make the level significantly harder and the final chapter is one of the hardest levels in any game I have ever played… Expand

    Well I really love the game's story. But, the excess of levels and repetitive scenarios, kind of threw me off. I was already understanding the deep story, but I expected the game to end soon. I was so tired of repetitive jumps and nothing new added.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Celeste uses little bits of storytelling to tell a much bigger story. To understand the story, a player has to go out of there way to find it. For example, the story of chapter 3 can only be found if you look for it.
    The game handles well, if a bit difficult to get use to. The game took me about 30 hours to beat chapters 1-8, and i have still not completed farewell or the b or c sides. The game looks amazing for what it needs. A more detailed game would just look ugly, and a less detailed game would look unfinished. In conclusion, my 17 pounds were well spent, as i got an amazing game with a good yet not distracting story, a massive amount of gameplay, and a soundtrack to kill for. 10 out of 10, amazing game, new personal favourite.    … Expand

Celeste is a very hard game for the first few levels it wasn't that bad I mean they were challenging bows eventually able to overcome them however for the life of me I wanted to kill myself on chapter 6 core this shows your ability to put it to the ultimate test and good God it is harder than anything you've done before it's even worse in chapters 7 farewell we must follow a bird and good God the conveyor belt section I still haven't even got past that we have to grab on the walls the game is beautiful I will say but the difficulty is really hard I know game was going to be hard just for the life of it just like cuphead but unlike cuphead I was able to do it and the game so my suggestion for cuphead is be prepared for whatever comes your way so I recommend if you're playing so less go prepared also I really like the secret mini game which I think was a prototype version of Celeste that was a really nice detail I don't know why they called it Pico 8 but okay… Expand

    I beat the main story. There's still more levels to play. I doubt my opinions of this game will change. This game is great. Reminds me of my difficult Mario maker levels.

    I loved playing chapter 1 - 8 and even doing some side Bs which were hard but very doable, because you would spawn very close.     Wow, What a game. This has to have some of the best sprite work, and best platforming levels I’ve ever seen. Not to mention the story while simple is really good and touches on important themes. This is one of the best video games made

    Celeste has probably the best platforming physics out of any 2d platformer. It's a simple game about climbing a mountain and it's story is also about climbing said mountain. The music is also awesome.

    This game is a perfect balance between good gameplay and outstanding aesthetics. I finished it with 2600 deaths but I can guarantee you that I didn't raged any time, it is worth it, the message the game sends is very beautiful, i recommend it

It's a hard game but a very rewarding one and if you are stuck in a chapter you can turn on the assist mode. There are not a lot of characters, but each one has tons of personality.     This is a amazing game, wonderful graphics, A M A Z I N G OST (thanks Lena Raine), beautiful story about depression, stress, anxiety… and the gameplay is also AMAZING, it’s fast, precise, and hard (yes, that’s a hard game) and I love it. I can’t say every amazing things about the game because I’d need a full book, so I’m going to stop here.

    its a great game, it has great graphics, excellent game design, and an enticing narrative, its exploration of mental health is refreshing, and I enjoyed it. However, it is VERY HARD, I gave up on chapter 9, cuz i died like 1300< times. In 3 words, Hard but Great.

    I think celeste is an amazing game depending if you like story or gameplay. as either way you can skip the story or you can skip the gameplay (with assist mode). anyways I love this game I have 140 hours on it.

    Definitely one of my favourite games of all time. Very responsive, easy to learn hard to master movement that gets more fun the more you play. The game is good for both beginner players and hardcore players. The DLC is one of the hardest gaming feats I’ve completed and feels fantastic to comeplete

La DA est très appropriée à l'ambiance que le jeu essaye de donner avec également des OST qui se mélangent très bien au jeu.     It tells a surprisingly deep and emotional story featuring a relatable main character and it all blends uniquely together to make one of the finest gaming experience of the year. Celeste might not look it but, just like the mountain Madeline is so determined to conquer, it towers above the rest quite easily.

    My hands actually hurt from gripping the Switch but I couldn’t stop, and when I finally landed on the other side of one of the many gauntlets that Celeste wears like a medal, I felt both relief and curiosity as to what it would throw at me next. It’s a rewarding experience and a game that I’m honoured to issue a perfect score.
