Mostly directed at people playing in 2-player-co-op, which I didn't know before (I bought it together with the main game). If you're on your own, it's obviously not as much fun, and the two Toads don't always control like you would like them to. It would have been nice to be able to put them in different formations (side-by-side, in a row) with the push of a button instead of having to line them up at walls.

This DLC also doesn't really contain much new content, it's mostly just remixes of stages from the main game where you either collect crown fragments under time pressure or hunt Boo-Hoos with your headlamp(s). Oh, I forgot, you also get to replay that sequence from the main game where Toad rides the red dragon about ten times and it's always the same. Why? Coin challenges would've been more fun (preferrably new ones) instead of an auto-scroller where you're invincible and just mash A and move up and down for thirty seconds.

I'm still giving it a 6 because of its very fair price tag, and because it's probably lots more fun with a second player. However, if you're looking for single-player content, you can skip this one, unless you really just cannot get enough of Captain Toad.

Honestly, for that price it's definitely worth it. I recommend you to get it digitally with the base game.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Special Episode not only adds more content and challenges to the original game, it brings a fantastic addition to the game that makes it an absolute charm to revisit. The high quality of this DLC is also more than enough to make everyone ask why doesn't Nintendo do this more often.

The Wii U was filled with some absolutely wonderful releases, many of which were criminally underrated and missed out on by so many fans. Seeing them return on Switch is wonderful, and the on-the-go functionality of the system allows for even more ways to play. For its current low price, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - Special Episode is well worth it. The initial description of recycled levels sounds a little off-putting, feeling that this could be a cheap, low-effort tack-on. It isn't. The new levels are filled with fantastic designs, while the remakes are complete overhauls, almost indistinguishable from their originals.

Special Episode is an additional package for those who enjoyed the adventures found in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. It may seem a short addendum, but with new levels, remixes, and a new co-op gameplay addition, it offers much more than meets the eye.
