Boot Hill Heroes is one of the most underrated game of all time!

This amazing first entry blew me away. I already adore Westerns, and I adore Rpg's, so this game was made for me and I'm glad to have found it :D The story is one of my very favourites in a long time. It didn't feel like a typical Western to me, it felt like an interesting take on classic/spaghetti Westerns. I loved our main protagonist Kid, and the rest of the gang (Rosy, Moon Dancer, & of course the incredible Doc!) The supporting cast was also great, especially Monty Spaids was an amazingly memorable villain I will never forget. And I absolutely loved the ensemble cast of villains, they are all so interesting and unique and they could not have been handled better. The world is beautiful, I loved the art style, loved exploring each town, talking to every strange NPC. The soundtrack was shockingly beautiful, I will be listening to it regularly for sure! The turn-based combat surprised me too as it takes a lot from other RPG's like Pokemon, but it does such interesting things with it. The enemy design was awesome and interesting too as they stuck with Humans and animals, no Fantasy. My only flaw would be I wish the main party got to interact between each other even more. Literally my only flaw, I thought Boot Hill Heroes was an amazing surprise to me, and I can't wait to continue this wonderful journey in Part 2: Boot Hill Bounties :)

9/10! I strongly recommend this game to everyone who likes RPG's, and especially if you love a good old Western tale!

Boot Hill Heroes is a game that fans of old-school RPGs should definitely check out. It’s got a wonderfully realized world that oozes charm from the character design, dialog, and music. The combat ranges from fairly routine against weak enemies to a tricky puzzle against stronger ones, but always feels fair.

The story is probably the weakest part of the game because of how it abruptly

The story is probably the weakest part of the game because of how it abruptly ends, but I’m hoping that the way it continues into Boot Hill Bounties and the eventual third episode makes for a satisfying story overall.

This game isn’t perfect, but if you’re looking for a relaxed, goofy, retro world to slip into for a while, it is perfect for that.

Ten years have passed since that day and due to mounting bills your mother sends you out into the world to get a job and help pay off the bankers. Shortly after you begin your life as a stable boy in the big city you learn of an attack on the nearby city of Ashwood, by the Chepakwik Indians that has reduced the entire town to cinders and leaving the populous homeless. As the game progresses you come to learn that something darker and more sinister is going on here and the real truth of the matter lies at the very underbelly of the situation leaving you with little choice but to figure out what really is going on. Boot Hill Heroes and its Combat system share a lot of similarities with Earthbound but unlike Earthbound you can equip and later swap "Hats" which work almost as a Job system allowing you to learn new skills called "Vantages". Another key aspect of the battle system in BHH is knowing when to attack and when to dodge/block, it is something you will learn as you play and go along and less something anyone can really tell you, it all comes down to timing and sometimes luck. If you enjoy retro Jrpg's like The mother series or final fantasy and also have a place in your heart for westerns, your in luck! Expand

Boot Hill Heroes, though an honorable attempt to make a retro RPG in the rarely-used Wild West setting, fails to hold up to modern standards. It also isn’t a close enough homage to let those misgivings slide. A fine combat system and an on-point soundtrack aren’t enough to get past the bland gameplay, trope-filled story, and old-school jank.
