As a longtime Nitrome fan, Bomb Chicken is just what I expected from their console debut: tight gameplay, smart puzzles, crazy concepts and masterclass pixel art. Their take on Nintendo's golden rule (craft your game around a single mechanic and explore all possibilities) could be used in game design classes.

Bomb chicken is a really fun time. While on the short side it offers some really well thought out levels which may lead to high levels of frustration followed by a sense of euphoria particularly in the last few levels. The animation style and concept really pulled me in as well. Considering it's low price this is definitely worth looking into as a game to play on the go.

It's a really fun game and the pixel art is pretty great.

In the later stages the puzzles will get harder and demand the player to think before they act or you'll die numerous times, as I did.

Bomb Chicken is a fun and simple game. The controls are as simple as can be, that's what you want from a retro indie game. Nothing with a whole load of features but is challenged by the area around you. The quality is great, giving of the retro nostalgia look that everyone is currently on at the moment. Doing this gives you that great sense of achievement. There isn't any real value to go back through the game however and is a one-time thing. While the challenges can get tough the game is still rather short. A fun little game that can kill some time. Expand

Other then the smooth pixel animations and art-style in some of the level designs, the game offers nothing special, it is just too simple, too much so that it hurts the game. There's no story, only game play, pure game play, and the game play offers hardly anything. Even eight buttons on the controller do the exact same thing, which is lay bombs. I thought this game looked interesting, but it feels repetitive, unnecessarily hard early on, and boring. Do not get this game.

Great pixelart and challenging gameplay, that's all you can expect from this little gem. I recommend it for all Nintendo Switch players, but I warn you... in the later stages the puzzles will get really hard, so be prepared!

Pixel platformers are a dime a dozen on the Switch eShop, and sometimes it can be hard to find the treasure in the trash. Without a doubt, Bomb Chicken is one of those treasures! [Issue #35 – September/October 2018, p. 23]

A deceptively clever platformer with one brilliant idea, from which it wrings every drop of creativity. [Issue#333, p.60]
