I got pretty far into this game and ended up getting bored with it. New enemies and weapons are introduced over time, but they all feel pretty similar. This game isn't super hard, but the hard parts end up feeling tedious and frustrating rather than fun (mostly barrel heavy levels).

The fixed camera angle makes some of the jumps harder than they should be. The camera is also pulled too

The fixed camera angle makes some of the jumps harder than they should be. The camera is also pulled too far out a lot of the time. Your character looks tiny and is hard to make out from gangs of enemies sometimes.

The worst part is the performance on the Switch. Levels take forever to load even if they don't appear that large or complicated. The framerate feels low and inconsistent. This is the kind of game that demands to be buttery smooth and responsive. It isn't.

I've only put a few hours into it, but so far, this is a strong contender for Most Disappointing Game of 2020. It's very shallow and quite janky. It feels like the positive reviews are purely based off the style, which I'll admit, is pretty cool. Just play Hotline Miami or the excellent Apeout instead.

the idea ist pretty good but the execution is a little bit underwhelming. the game is at its best when it plays like hotline miami or katana zero. But unlike those streamlined games bloodroots feels unrefined.
Starting with the graphics which make it hard to see whats going on. In a game that requires fast reflexes and quick thinking this can be a dealbreaker. The camera is zoomed out way

Starting with the graphics which make it hard to see whats going on. In a game that requires fast reflexes and quick thinking this can be a dealbreaker. The camera is zoomed out way too far for no reason which makes it hard to see the action. A lot of times i died because of an enemy or weapon i did not see. Sometimes i didnt even know what killed me in the first place or didnt see the weapons i need to grab at all. This becomes really frustrating.

Also there is a lot of unnecessary platforming in this game which doesnt add anything to the experience. The isometric view makes it hard too see where you are jumping or on which level you and the enemys are. Together with bottomless pits and instant kill death rays this also becomes relly annoying.

There is a lot of potential and if the devs would have focused more on the core gameplay mechanic and making it enjoyable, this would be an awesome game but unfortunatly there is just so much that doesnt groove with the action gameplay. if there ever is a patch that fixes the camera and maybe adds an assist mode, that color-highlights weapons and enemys i think i would really enjoy it. But as it is now i would recomend buying the other two games mentioned.

    - Bad controls. I can't get past the way the character runs. There is no acceleration or deceleration.

Solid! It doesn't bring anything new in its mechanics and Gameplay overall but it is a fun time.

Good idea with mediocre gameplay and bugs. Many times you'll see how the hit box of the enemies make no sense or lag with the jump and attack button. Is really disappointing because it would be a really interesting and worth game with an average gameplay, but unfortunately is too bad.

This is one of those games where you'll die a thousand times and about five of them will be your fault. Not a terribly enticing requirement for a game that is also marred with bad performance (on Switch), horrific platforming, and atrocious mandatory timed sequences. To make matters worse, the game concludes with perhaps the least satisfying ending I've ever experienced in any medium. It's a shame because the game has potential; chaining together kills when you're really in the zone is satisfying and it's fun to experiment with the dozens of weapons at your disposal at any given time. But when the execution is this poor, I'm afraid I couldn't recommend this game to anyone but the most die-hard fans of painfully difficult action games, and/or hours of absolutely senseless murder. And even then, your time would be much better spent elsewhere. Expand

I've got it on sale and I think it was worth the price from sale... It's a fast paced action game with one hit KO mechanics. It's a quite fun game, but it gets really boring with time. Also, it has obligatory bonus levels which are time challenges.

IF IT'S AN OBLIGATORY THEN IT'S NOT A BONUS LEVEL!! Those challenges were the worst, I've got quite far in game but the boredom and those

Those challenges were the worst, I've got quite far in game but the boredom and those "bonus" levels made me drop the game. Maybe, I'll go back to it in the future, but right now I have better things to do/play (I HATE obligatory bonuses, especially when they are time challenges. Time challenges are the ones I dislike, especially fast paced time challenges...)
It's not a bad game, it's just not for me.

7.5/10 - Isometric hack n slash. Fast fun is the best way to describe it. Doesn’t take itself too seriously and not overly long game (doesn’t overstay it’s welcome)

Positives + the right amount of difficulty and playtime + good soundtrack + fun ride Negatives - long load times - no explanation whatsoever on what to do in platforming areas can leave you wasting time dying repeatedly

A stylized action fighting game that you will easily get tired of, but on the other hand it can also entertain and reward patient players. [Issue#303]

Bloodroots is madness in all the best ways… and in one of the worst. Difficulty is well balanced, and even when combat gets truly maddening, the experimentation the title offers is so much fun, it's hard to complain. However, when trying to platform through the many perilous environments, it becomes obvious where its faults lie. The camera and controls in these sections work against what's otherwise a very fun brawler, and drag the experience back from true excellence.

Bloodroots is like a Hotline Miami set in a western world, with a little touch of Tarantino. Play it, kill and have fun.
