    I wouldn't bet money on us getting another take on Go on Nintendo Switch, and even if we do, I wouldn't bet on it being a focused teaching tool for the game. As such, Being Stronger While Playing! SilverStar Go DX is mandatory stuff, despite its warts. You don't need to be a professional Go player, but it is one of those things where having a basic knowledge of the game is a good way of showing that you've got a level of interest and respect for other cultures, and it's a useful stepping stone for a broader understanding of Asian thought and culture.

    I was excited finally see a go game for the Switch, in English no less. I'd say this game is ok if you are interested in go, and maybe have aI was excited finally see a go game for the Switch, in English no less. I think there's also a lot of features missing that are available elsewhere which is unfortunate. I gave it a 6 because I am at least enjoying some of the puzzles but there are a lot of problems.

    Pros:
    - A go game, in English for the Switch
    - Contains a TON of puzzles and lessons
    - AI play, I'm pretty bad but seemed ok to me.

    Cons:
    - Translation is the worst I've ever seen: typos, incorrect words. Makes early JRPGs look like Shakespeare. You can still understand it, but it's distracting.
    - No online play. I don't see why correspondence games aren't a thing with a player base in Asia? Monster Hunter made Japan to US online play work. All we need are emojis and line stickers. Chess games for the switch have online play and leader-boards.
    - The explanations aren't the best: For example in the double atari puzzles it doesn't really explain if there are two options that both produce double atari, why one is better than the other. It just marks you wrong. It has no explanation (I think if you were totally new to go this would be very confusing!)
    - You can't analyze the puzzles, and at least on the puzzles I've seen it doesn't 'play out' the answer for you. So 'Who would win this ladder?' the answers are black or white. You don't see the ladder played out nor can you play it out yourself. IMHO this is the biggest flaw.

    Summary: It's ok game, if you are into Go and have a Switch. If you are new to Go and have never played I'd recommend Online Go Server, 'Learn to Play Go' by Janice Kim, and Tsumego Pro on Android (or SmartGo Kifu for iOS). I hope we see more Go games for Switch, a Hikaru No Go videogame would be cool! But this game is kinda meh.    … Full Review »
