I love the first two games; this feels almost nothing like them. It’s like I am playing Avengers mixed with Godzilla rather than Bayonetta. Nothing in this game feels original. Instead, it's like they ripped off a bunch of action movies.

The story is abysmal. It makes no sense in terms of the universe the past two Bayonetta games set up. Where in the first two games, the story was an integral part of the gaming experience, you can tell the story was an afterthought and is only there to set up a bunch of gimmicky fights.

Every five minutes they have you doing some weird mini game. No joke, at one point I had to play a version of rock-paper-scissors. I loved the fight mechanics in the first two games, but just like the story, game-play refinement took a backseat to gimmicky action scenes. Instead of quality story writing, we get big explosions and Kaiju.

While I think the music is fine and there were no bugs or glitches that I encountered, the game design itself is subpar. All the levels feel empty and soulless. You will see land in the distance, thinking you can jump there, just to have the game force you back to where you were and penalize you by damaging you. You get penalized in this game for trying to explore. The the scale of enemies and the camera rotation will get you damaged if not outright killed now and again – it is not terrible but frustrating. I never had this problem in the first two games. And I have to say, the English voice acting for a new girl in the game is horrible! I had to mention her because it is the first thing you hear in the game and throughout. It's like nails on a chalk board. Gimmicky fights, cheap deaths, poor level design, bad voice acting (except from the main cast, their still good), and a dreadful story.

I was so excited for a new Bayonetta game but instead it feels like I am playing a bad action movie with a paper-thin plot. It's all about explosions and giant monsters with this game. I don’t know what happened behind the scenes to make them choose this direction for Bayonetta, but whoever was in charge, I really hope they have been let go and are no longer working with the company. This is barely Bayonetta.

This is a sad day as I cannot recommend Bayonetta 3. Skip this game; don’t end up depressed, let down, and out $60, like I am.

Currently I am attempting to do the viola challenge that requires you to dodge and enter witch time, which is hard to say the least. Given you have to be very precise when you parry, along with she's slow to react when using it so there's a delay between when you press it and when it occurs. Coupled with depending on when you do it determines how long the witch time will be, and can mean it literally lasts 2 seconds as a result, making the challenge even more frustrating.

Oh and when you leave witch time, if the other one is attacking you immediately eat all the damage their doing. Which makes the long finishing attacks feel janky due to them forcing you to stand still for periods of time and you cant break the animation to dodge.

The story, visuals and attacks have all been great so far, its the gameplay mechanics when it comes to combat that leaves a lot to desire. As it's all very precise, punishing if you mistime, and simply makes for a bad time when you have to do a dodging game that has a delay to it and can cause damage windows to be far too short. Chapter 5 verse 2 may be the only one so far that I do not do, given I just do not have the timing, nor patience. To nail down how precise you have to be to effectively and efficiently dodge their attacks to damage them in turn.

It's a good game, just not a great game like Bayo 1 and Bayo 2. There's alot done right, and alot done wrong. Story being the worst, while combat reimagining being best.

Definitely the weakest in the trilogy, but still good.

In my opinion the game delivers in three key areas. The first area are the gameplay which is pure unadulterated fun, and the controls, which are so intuitive, like one single button manifesting the beasts of Bayonetta. The second area is performance. Now here the DF examination proves to be a croc of manure since the games performance rarely stutters and when it does it’s so minuscule that you have to be overgrown frustrated dork to realise it. Lastly is the value in what you are getting, and here I have already put in a week into this game and all I want to do is go back in and play again. It is that good. Other areas excel, like excellent voice acting so props to Jeniffer Hale, and the cut scenes which are fun and funny and really syncs nicely between gameplay, never interfering or feeling too long. This is why in my estimation Bayonetta 3 is the game of the year, because it not only matches the hype of expectation but surpasses it, frustrating those salty incels who wish it failed. Tough luck.

If you love this series and the stellar fast paced combat, skip this one and stick with Bayonetta 2. The story is very poorly done, basically the meta verse comes to Bayonetta. Your favorite characters are here, but the story is so bad that they cannot make it shine. Graphically it’s worse than Bayonetta 2. Hopefully, if they make a Bayonetta 4 it will be on next Gen hardware and if we are stick with the demon control portions, they actually make those parts fun. Love my Switch but some titles need more powerful hardware and Bayonetta is suffering here. Expand

There wasn't much more to do after we fought heaven, hell, and chaos, but there is an amazing space to explore what I feel to be a very contemporary version of the beloved witch.

Some times the game can get a bit out of track, and some ideas aren't explored in the best way, however, they always feel epic, and most new things got at least a chuckle out of me, while the best ones got me screaming with excitement and joy while playing them.

It has been a long time since a game made me feel such honest delight as I played with yo-yos, danced, sang songs, and fought godzilla-style battles in beautiful, picture-perfect scenery.

Overall, it was pure, honest fun.

I look forward to seeing what our Bayonetta does next.

The improved combat is amazing as is the music, the only thing I can criticize is the story, which was… interesting at best, the graphics suffer a bit due to the Switch’s limitations, but it runs well. As well as the new playable character Viola, her combat is not fully fleshed out and is somewhat clumsy. But her personality is nice, best described as a clumsy dork.

Bayonetta 3 excels in over-the-top madness. In the best possible way. But the story with wacky characters across parallel universes, is just the canvas for the real highlight of Bayonetta 3: the action. The titular witch's lightning-fast attacks are complemented her own magical powers, but you can now also temporarily take control of several enormous creatures, the "Demon Slaves”.

Bayonetta is back and the long-awaited third game not only builds up on the excellent formula of games past, it goes one step forward and adds new protagonists, experiments with elements of other genres, improves on its plot structure, and allows all kinds of players to enjoy it, creating an experience that's both familiar and fresh, as well as accessible, thrilling, gorgeous, and enveloping. Bayonetta 3 is a fantastic addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue and it deserves to be on everyone's collection.
