QEPD Bayonetta

In my opinion the game delivers in three key areas. The first area are the gameplay which is pure unadulterated fun, and the controls, which are so intuitive, like one single button manifesting the beasts of Bayonetta. The second area is performance. Now here the DF examination proves to be a croc of manure since the games performance rarely stutters and when it does it’s so minuscule that you have to be overgrown frustrated dork to realise it. Lastly is the value in what you are getting, and here I have already put in a week into this game and all I want to do is go back in and play again. It is that good. Other areas excel, like excellent voice acting so props to Jeniffer Hale, and the cut scenes which are fun and funny and really syncs nicely between gameplay, never interfering or feeling too long. This is why in my estimation Bayonetta 3 is the game of the year, because it not only matches the hype of expectation but surpasses it, frustrating those salty incels who wish it failed. Tough luck. The improved combat is amazing as is the music, the only thing I can criticize is the story, which was… interesting at best, the graphics suffer a bit due to the Switch’s limitations, but it runs well. As well as the new playable character Viola, her combat is not fully fleshed out and is somewhat clumsy. But her personality is nice, best described as a clumsy dork.

The new game play it’s fantastic to me, it’s more challenging, there’s platforms, puzzles a little of exploring and also the new fight mode “demon slave” and the “DO OI EA BAYONETTA!”. There’s also a mini game very interesting! The story it’s well done, I cried as never before, the end was a struggle, I was like “yeah she’s gonna make it” and a second later I was “oh no she don’t” and again “YAAS BI SLAYY” and so on. At least I can say that Bayo3 it’s full of stuff and news, minigames and game mode (you also play as viola and Jeanne). It was a good game to break the standards that th first 2 games gave us, I mean if you think about it, bayo 1 and 2 are basically the same. The new graphic sucks anyway, I mean the bayo 2 cutscene were much more better. Hope that I can see her again in a new chapter, I really love this game and means a lot to me… and I don’t want to play as Viola… I mean.. she’s cute but she’s not Bayonetta. Expand

While I'm not the biggest fan of multi-verse stories I feel that it was handled well and it's fun.
The combat is fun and satisfying, the world exploration is the best it has ever been.

There are also plenty of set pieces and mini-games that back up the usual combat so you don't get too fatigued from a long string of battles. Jeanne's side scrolling levels are fun to play. Bayonetta's boss battles are usually divided into normal combat boss battles followed up with mini game boss battles helps to make things varied and interesting.

I'm not the biggest fan of Viola or her combat, but she's a fine addition to the cast of characters and her parts tend to be short so levels with her usually start wrapping up when I start to get bored of her.

    A few minor gripes
I miss Bayonetta 2's co-op competitions for halos, I also think the enemies in Bayonetta 3 can sometimes be a bit too easy compared to the Bayonetta/Bayonetta 2 enemies.
I wish the weapons felt a bit more unique and varied in their combos and special attacks. I think they did Jeanne dirty with how ugly she looks, and I didn't find many of the costumes that interesting, sticking almost exclusively to the first costume that you unlock in the game.

But all in all I enjoyed this entry into Bayonetta and loved every moment of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. [[SPOILERS]] The fact that the Cereza of Bayo 3 hooks up with Luka irks me as much it probably does everyone else. Seeing the most powerful iteration of Bayo shack up with Mr. Silver Medal is heartbreaking. I get it.
However, I don’t objectify Bayo as a sex symbol or an object to idolize, I see her for what she is: a nigh-omnipotent goddess who does not give one idle fook about your idealizations. Bayo does what BAYO wants, and if that includes making a baby with Tony Redgrave’s idiot son, then who am I to stop her? [[SPOILERS]]
That aside, let’s talk about the game. While Bayo 2 got a lot of well-deserved praise, it was ultimately an iterative update to Bayo 1. Thus, Bayo 3 made sweeping, revolutionary changes while managing to keep the core gameplay intact.
Instead of distinct hand and foot weapons, we have a bevy of unified weapons that serve as hand, foot, and ranged weapons in one package. This revised weapon system is key to Bayo 3’s new Demon Masquerade system, which replaces both Wicked Weaves and Bayo’s Animal Within mobility tools. Attacks and combos that formerly invoked Wicked Weaves now transform Bayo into a demon to perform devastating attacks. Double-tapping ZR will also transform Bayo into a demon, with distinct mobility tools based on your weapon, such as a moth form that can zip around and float, a fire-spider that can web-swing and walk on lava, etc. With expanded mobility come much larger maps to explore and tons of hidden collectibles, including keys to bonus stages that award anything from hearts and pearls to weapons and demons. There’s TONS of content between the combat.
Bayo 3 has more weapons than any previous iteration, and I can’t express how unique they are. There’s a mic-stand that doubles as a multi-part spear that shoots poison and can buff you like a Hunting Horn. There are spiked doors used as shields, fist weapons, Gatling guns, and portal to the mechanical-pain-dimension. There’s a literal train engine that Bayo can either ride or swing like a club, which feels like Cavaliere on crack. They’re all super weird, inventive, and feel fantastic to use.
Each weapon comes with a complimentary Demon that feels like an Astral Chain Legions amped to apocalyptic levels. Holding ZL will get Bayo dancing as she summons a Demon to take her place in battle. Demons are powerful, capable of staggering/launching everything but giant bosses. They can wipe out whole stages on their own, but abuse them and they can temporarily die or rampage, at which point they’ll attack everything, including you.
Demons can also be used in combos and defense via Wink and Assault summons. At the end of combos or during some enemy attacks, you’ll see a brief flash on the screen. This indicates that you can press ZL to instantly summon your Demon and either inflict a unique combo finisher (Wink) or instantly counter and stagger your opponents (Assault). These flash summons all have unique positional, damage, and timing properties, so foresight and strategy can go a long way to maximizing their effectiveness.
Much like the weapons, each Demon is remarkably unique, ranging from standbys like Gomorrah, to things so utterly insane that I’m dying not to spoil it. They all possess countless tactical uses and often defy the conventions of the genre (one such demon briefly turns the game into a semi-RTS). With the ability to switch between two weapons and three demons at any time, Bayo can wreak havoc in strange, creative, and stylish ways.
Along with Bayo is Viola, a witch in training who is quite skilled with the only usable sword in the game, summons a familiar demon cat named Cheshire, and activates Witch Time by blocking, which makes her tricky to use. While Bayo can activate Witch Time while in motion and without touching an enemy, Viola needs to be stationary and make contact with attacks. This can lead to a lot of standing around and whiffing blocks, only to get nailed the instant you try to move, which is frustrating. But once you adapt to her playstyle (stay on the offensive, spam Cheshire, block only the obvious attacks), she can be devastating in her own right, though getting to that point might require more patience than detractors are willing to give.
So the negatives: the game’s graphical demands turn your Switch into a nuclear reactor, so don’t expect constant 60 fps. Second, large enemies who block the camera often disappear completely, which gets ridiculous when you’re pinned against a wall and stomped to death by an invisible giant. Finally, the game introduces a new soft lock-on system that is unyieldingly aggressive: you ONLY swing in the direction of a soft-locked enemy, rather than the direction of your analog stick. This is made worse by a new hard lock-on system that doesn’t allow you to manually change targets, which makes nuanced target selection painful.
Damn fine game though. Don't let the ending ruin an otherwise amazing experience.

Amazing game, you get what you expect. Amazing fluid over the top combat and a WTF moment every other 5 to 10 minutes. Gfx can sometimes be less what I would have wanted, but those are just hardware limitations. Just like Astral Chain you can see they took most out of it and pushed as far as they could.

The story expands the Bayonetta universe while keeping the style and attitude, alongside surprising twists and awesome cutscenes. You'll try to stop Singularity, which has an army of biological human weapons, which tear through the universe, destroying the worlds in the multiverse one by one. The music doesn't fall short either, with new songs and remixes that won't get out of your head. The design of the enemies, environments and demons looks better than ever, although I found the new look of the characters a bit unappealing. Now let's talk about gameplay. Bayonetta 3 has by far the most refined gameplay in the series. The new mechanics introduces to the combat include summoning demons to help you, adding them as combo finishers and controlling them. You'll get to control different versions of Bayonetta, each with her own unique weapon and demon, which you'll eventually achieve. It's super fun to mix up weapons and demons during the combat, which was more so Bayonetta 1 difficult rather than 2, which I prefer (which means it was harder this time around). You'll also control Viola, which plays differently than Bayonetta. She can obtain witch-time by parrying attacks from enemies, which I liked. Her sword play also felt great, because I usually like the sword weapons the most in Bayo 1&2, and she plays similar to that. She can also use Cheshire to help her, which mixes up the demons' usual mechanics. The weakest part of the gameplay by far is Jeanne, which plays in 2D stealth stages, which kills the pace of the game. They're annoying, unsatisfying, slow and clunky. To simply put it- I wish it wasn't here at all. But besides that, there really is nothing like playing Bayonetta- getting those insane combo chains, hitting enemies the size of a skyscraper and performing Climaxes- it's all here, and it's awesome. One of the most concerning thing leading up to the game's release was the performance of the game. Luckily- I think it's alright. I never experienced anything that hurt the combat experience. I will say that the game has some fps struggles, but it's nothing major. I was more bothered with pop in, which was really noticeable when roaming around in the stages. Luckily, I am willing to give all these problems a pass, because Bayonetta 3 has some seriously incredible graphics. From the cutscenes to fast-paced gameplay, world design and details- it's seriously impressive that the Switch can pull off these graphics, and they definitely contribute to how immersive the world feels. In conclusion- buy this game. I can feel how much work went into it, and it was obviously the product of hard work and a lot of passion. Just ignore Jeanne's stages. 9.5/10. Expand

I know some people have reservations about the story, but as someone who isnt bothered by the story at all, I honestly think this game is the best entry so far. Story isnt even why I play Stylish Action Games anyways, so yeah. I mean, dont get me wrong, I'm attached to the characters, I do love them, but I dont really care what happens to them in the story tbh. I just like hearing them talk, and do **** in cutscenes, and be flirty and wacky. Lol But that's just me.

Anyways, everything else lived up to my expectations, the combat is far more exceptional than ever, we got so many new weapons, and skills that are all fun to use, Demon Slave is cool to experiment with, and is a pleasant new mechanic, the music is sick af, the movement felt fluid, and most of the enemies were fun to fight. There were some stinkers with the enemies, but overall I enjoyed fighting them.

I'm still getting the hang of Viola tho. Shes tricky to play with, but satisfying to use once I start getting into her flow. Block offset is fun as hell to pull off when I can do it consistently. I still prefer Bayo tho.

The level design tho can be very annoying when trying to find all the secrets and collectables, because everything is so open, and big, but I also like it at the same time because it's such a joy to run, fly, and swing around all these open spaces swiftly while in Demon Masquerade. The traversing in this game is surprisingly enjoyable. If Platinum made a platformer game with this type of swift traversing I would play it in a heartbeat ngl.

Also, I know some people also have reservations about the arcade-y/mini-game sections, like the Jeanne chapters, the Kaiju fights etc, etc, but as a PlatinumGames fan, I was actually looking forward to them. Lol
Whenever I play a PlatinumGames game I always go into it with the mindset of "get ready to play some wacky arcade **** and I **** love them.
They're so damn goofy, and silly, and just pure arcade fun. They also serve as a nice palette cleanser from all the constant frantic action, at least for me.
These mini-games were also actually enjoyable, unlike the bike section that goes on for way too long, the grating Angel Attack sections after you complete any chapter, and the nauseating Space Harrier section in Bayo 1.
I dont remember any mini-games in Bayo 2 other than the horse-riding section(which is literally just the bike section from 1 but you can now attack better)or the not nauseating, but more boring, Space Harrier section. So yeah, I actually really enjoy the mini-games, and stages in Bayo 3. Lol However I, totally understand why people dont like them, especially the Kaiju fights, because they can be pretty slow.

But yeah, those are my thoughts on Bayo 3, and why I think it's the best entry.
Currently on my second playthrough, and enjoying every minute of it. 9/10
Also, play this game a second time once you beat it once. Once you have all the weapons and collectables the opens levels are a breeze to get through. Also, the minigames are over super quickly, and you can skip the Jeanne levels if you want.

I do wish it looked better tho, and had a consistent frame rate. Shame that its chained to such weak hardware on the Switch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. God, that was AWESOME! This game is my personal GOTY 2022. Everything about it is beautiful, every element was thought out and well done. Like monster fighting games, or Jeanne mini-games. Platinum Games have surpassed even their last game - Astral Chain. I haven't had this much fun in a long time. The last slasher I enjoyed was most likely Fallen Order and Astral Chain. The ending is simply tear-jerking. Bayonetta 3 has become less of a musical and more of an adventure game, and during this journey you become attached to the characters, and Bayonetta herself. Viola, although not played very well, has become very good as a character. She's the next Bayonetta by the way. I'm waiting for Bayonetta 4. Therefore, my personal assessment of this game is 9 out of 10. Minus points, for the fact that Viola is not understandable in the gameplay somehow. Well, optimization and graphic jambs. With all due respect, but this game constantly gives out 40fps even on Yuzu. Why in 2022, Nintendo releases the game only on its console, I don't understand. It even hit Sony PlayStation that they need to release their games on PC as well. And Nintendo doesn't even want to release the second part on PC. I would buy then. And the game is already 10 years old. I would have bought then, but many would have bought, I think so. But despite everything. Bayonetta 3 is an awesome game. Expand

The action, set pieces, and lunacy of it all have hit a new high with this entry. The new introductions and expansions that work for the gameplay are a mixed bag for the story - the game seems to take inspiration from its peers such as Devil May Cry 5, Astral Chain, etc., without really reaching their highs, while also building on top of Bayonetta 1 & 2's meddling with time by adding multiverses. What this ultimately produces is an ending that will satisfy some, confused others, and leave people either happy or disappointed with Bayonetta 3's ultimate conclusion. As a story, Bayonetta 3 will be something that fans and non-fans will be divided over. As a game though? My goodness is it a blast to play. The game has insane bosses and variety in gameplay with over the top sequences, some control well others are eh, though that rhythm game fight is one of the best moments in this series. There is surprisingly great level design- its not just linear hallways it genuinely looks great in worlds and opens up puzzles and exploration in a good way for more. Viola is really fun to play and enjoyable and adds more to the game overall with variety and fun. The story is crazy and ill admit the ending is definitely going to be tough to swallow but it does not detract from the other 90% of the game being amazing. The ost is amazing as well as so much of the presentation having way more budget than previous games clearly just being held back by switch. Really a great time. A possible rewrite of the plot or sharpening of its narrative could have improved the story, as there's a ton of amazing ideas in it.

I'll try not to go too much into spoilers. Bayonetta 3 left me with a very sour taste at the end in terms of its story, not because of how a story must end, but because of its incoherence. If there's one element a story must have to be good, it's its plot, and that the cause-effect of said plot manifests itself as you progress through the game. And, while that cause-effect is usually seenI'll try not to go too much into spoilers. Bayonetta 3 left me with a very sour taste at the end in terms of its story, not because of how a story must end, but because of its incoherence. If there's one element a story must have to be good, it's its plot, and that the cause-effect of said plot manifests itself as you progress through the game. And, while that cause-effect is usually seen with the antagonist, it's not usually seen with what Bayonetta is or the people around her, and that detracts a lot from it. Let me explain, in Bayonetta 1, the game revolves around her identity, in Bayonetta 2, the game looks for continuation on the identity that Bayonetta has built and, features more introspective things that weren't seen in Bayonetta 1 regarding her personal life or the lives of her own. In Bayonetta 3, however, there is none of that, because the detracting factor in my opinion is the concept of the metaverse.

The creator of Bayonetta said that players had to have played Bayonetta 1 and 2 to play Bayonetta 3 and, in part, he lied. I say partly because... yes, it is true that you have to play both games to know some references such as the angels or demons you face, or with whom you make a pact, but it is not so necessary for the story, because in itself, it’s quite unconnected, and unrelated to the 2 previous games (Bayonetta 1 and 2). Even in Bayonetta 2 something happens at the end with the villain, and what happens with the villain is not even continued in Bayonetta 3, and worse, it's not even mentioned in the game. As for the gameplay, it's SPECTACULAR, better than Bayonetta 1 and 2, it feels very satisfying; and I think they did great at that, they really outdid themselves. Fighting the demons you acquire as you progress is exquisite.

Going back to the metaverse, I think this aspect of Bayonetta 3 is what ruins a little bit the lore of Bayonetta and its exquisite world; because I feel that the developers wanted to cover too much, but as a phrase says "do not bite off more than you can chew". So much so that, even acquiring new weapons, you don't have that many opportunities to practice with them, because you get many of those weapons at the end of the game; and you can't even empathize much with the characters you encounter, since they don't have much screen time. And that's basically what the metaverse proposes, finding yourself in various situations or characters that you don't have much opportunity to interact with or delve into, and part of that ruins the experience.

Do I recommend the game? If you're looking for great gameplay, this is your game. Now, if you want to play it for its story (unless that's your main goal), then I leave it up to you. Personally I didn't like it much, because of the disconnections with the previous two games, and because of how much this Bayonetta 3 tries to cover.

I've finished the game twice now, on standard and on expert mode. And I think there are some legitimate criticisms to be made about the game. But all in all, I think it's a solid romp, and I have many positives things to say about it.

The one aspect of B3 that I think really outdoes the previous games is the music. I didn't dislike the previous OSTs, but the music slaps hard this time around. The jazz is pumped up compared to the previous games, and Gh()st is a legit banger. Eff yeah.

Action-wise, I like the overall feel of the game. I like the witch time system better than in B2. There, the time available for doing combos was so short, I'd always just mash punch-kick-punch to get the shortest wicked weave, and usually the last hit would happen outside of witch time. Now, on a well-timed dodge, the witch-time is much longer and allows for longer combos. I also liked most of the arcadey bits in the game. I like the rails shooter, I like the Panzer Dragon bit (though the camera could have been better), I liked the opera scene. The ones controlling Gomorrah are a bit meh because he moves so slowly, but on average I think these “mini-games” are fun.

The Jeanne levels are a ton of fun on Normal, but kind of a hassle on Expert. On Normal I felt like I was really infiltrating a secret, high security bunker. On Expert, the enemy respawn rate is too high to really move around discreetly and do the fun spy stuff. I'm not excited about trying it on Infinite Climax. The James Bond/Persona 5-style intro is absolute fire, though.

I like Viola's gameplay, but it does seem a bit restrictive that she only has access to one weapon and one demon. I get that it makes sense thematically and for the story, but for a gonzo action game it would not have affected my suspension of disbelief if she had more skills to choose from.

A lot of people seem to hate Viola, but I don't know why. She's supposed to be an edgy annoying emo teenager, but that’s kind of the point? Kids, they're a mess, you know? I think her lack of self awareness contrasts well with her constant slapstick goof ups. Viola probably owns a Thrasher t-shirt without realizing it's a skateboarding magazine. It's funny, you know, the ignorance, it's funny, just laugh, they're kids, they don't know better, just nod and smile, they'll get there eventually.

There are a few things I dislike about the action. First off, the camera can be so far away from the action it's hard to see Bayonetta at all. There are lots of particle and swooshing effects that seriously compromise visibility. The Dark Strider fight was particularly frustrating; the boss is mostly black on a dark purple background, with all those swishy effects on top. Groan.

I don't love the Demon Slave mechanic. Being able to control huge demons sounds cool, but they move much slower than Bayonetta, and I don't get to play that fast, twitchy action that I love. Against large enemies, regular attack seem to do so little damage it's almost mandatory to use demon attacks. Most fights involve large areas with at least one large enemy, so the most efficient tactic is to abuse demon attacks. I like the smaller fights with smaller enemies in restrained spaces, but these are a rare. Enemy design is alright, but maybe a bit weaker than previous entries.

I didn't mind the story so much, but I did find the big bad's motivations to be kinda vague. I've watched all the cutscenes without skipping at least twice, and I still didn't know what the antagonists motivations are. The fact that a seemingly omniscient, multiverse destroying, infinite monster-producing factory's master plan actively works against itself is pretty dumb. There are also a few scenes that made me go "no, don't do that, that’s dumb don’t- you did it". The pacing in the last few chapters feels rushed which isn't too surprising for a Platinum Game (i.e. Vanquish, Astral Chain), but for those other games, I didn't feel quite as invested in the characters as I am with Bayonetta and her buddies, which probably explains the salty fandom.

My biggest complaint though might be about Bayonetta herself. She is not nearly sassy enough. I want a Pure Platinum level of sass. Over 9000 sass. Not some mid-tier sober Barney Stinson sass. What I NEED is a RuPaul's Drag Race best cattiest compilation Youtube video from user bestCelebComdeyKlips2004 level of sass. Anything less feels lacking, and Bayonetta just doesn't ham it up enough for me this time around.

So, is Bayonetta 3 worth your monies? I'd say, not all of your monies, but some of them for sure. It still has good action, but it’s also still average story-telling. It’s not any better or any worse than the previous entries.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bayonetta 3, La Bruja de Umbra! Regresa...

    Bad-
The technical shortcomings are fairly major, and while it doesn't happen often, they DO intrude upon the gameplay experience more than they should; the story fumbles majorly towards the end.

    Thoughts-
Issues and all, however, Bayonetta 3 is a spectacular game. If you’re a fan of the genre, this is a must play. If you’re a fan of the series, this is a must play. If you’re a fan of the kind of insane spectacle that the old God of War games had, but gave up with their modern entries, this is a must play. If you care at all about combat in video games, this is a must play. While it fumbles with the story, and frequently butts heads with its host system’s technical limitations, Bayonetta 3 is masterfully accomplished at all the things that matter, and all the things it needs to be great at. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t check it out, warts and all.

On top of weapons, you have your Summons so thats a whole nother layer on top of weapons and they stack pretty well since you can get an accessory that lets those fight while you do your thing.

Weapons and their combo's are the best part of this game. You can change it up pretty good and get some crazy stuff out of them. The only sad part is you can have only 2 weapons equipped at a time, if you could only have one more equipped to really change it up that would be fire.

The game has challenges, it has alternative levels for every level. It has alternative characters you can play as once you beat the game and throughout. It has an awesome style and just sick specials.

The story again is not great, and I kind of skipped through it because I lost interest. It was just not well thought out and kinda sloppy. Multiverse stuff is boring now and its just an easy way to make a story. No respect there.

The downsides to this game is the switch hardware and how its stuck on this platform. It has performance issues and sometimes you have no idea whats going on because it just looks bad. Overall still a crazy fun experience.

Currently I am attempting to do the viola challenge that requires you to dodge and enter witch time, which is hard to say the least. Given you have to be very precise when you parry, along with she's slow to react when using it so there's a delay between when you press it and when it occurs. Coupled with depending on when you do it determines how long the witch time will be, and can mean it literally lasts 2 seconds as a result, making the challenge even more frustrating.

Oh and when you leave witch time, if the other one is attacking you immediately eat all the damage their doing. Which makes the long finishing attacks feel janky due to them forcing you to stand still for periods of time and you cant break the animation to dodge.

The story, visuals and attacks have all been great so far, its the gameplay mechanics when it comes to combat that leaves a lot to desire. As it's all very precise, punishing if you mistime, and simply makes for a bad time when you have to do a dodging game that has a delay to it and can cause damage windows to be far too short. Chapter 5 verse 2 may be the only one so far that I do not do, given I just do not have the timing, nor patience. To nail down how precise you have to be to effectively and efficiently dodge their attacks to damage them in turn.

Bayonetta 3 is easy but in the meanwhile makes you feel stupid because there are too many combos to remember, get the platinum score is not easy at all, and also because you struggle in other stuff like cathing the Umbra tears, or finding that portal (verse) that you keep missing.
I'm a gamer, I always been, I've played so many games, but still, Bayo 3 made me feel lost for the most of the time and in various ways.
For example, from the speed of controlling bayonetta suddenly to the extreme sloppiness of a scene when you control a Demon.
Or simply with the useless choiche of making Viola time shift with the small button R instead of ZR.
I've ejoyed the game but I also have so many complains.
Just play it because it deserves to be played, but don't expect "the final bayonetta experience" because maybe is the opposite.

But the new character Viola was something so bad in both gameplay and in character both in design and personality. Which is a bad thing considering the replay value and the future of the series which to be honest is ruined if they plan to going on like the way they were hinting.

    The meh!
The thing about Bayonetta commanding his beast is reminiscent of Katy Perry at the Super Bowl on a giant Zord-like metal lion. In previous Bayonetta games, costumes associated with weapons were used that made Bayonetta look different (samurai, Chinese doll, ice skater...) without stretching the tired cliché of the multiverses. Games like Bayonetta 1 or Transformer Devastation teach as if confrontations with giant bosses should be done, in this game those resources are not used and they move the camera away making the characters tiny

Yes the graphics look like they are from an older generation, however it is an accomplishment that the game runs this well and loads this fast on the Nintendo Switch hardware at all. Characters are animated well and look good moving about and the set-pieces and non-stop action truly feels epic. Story is the usual over the top non-nonsensical fun.

Unfortunately the gameplay loop has devolved into - spam dodge for witch time, throw out a demon, wait till your magic runs out, spam dodge for witch time, charge up magic and repeat. Spam heal items in as required.

Most enemy types have been created around the new demon summon mechanic and there are no enemies designed to utilize Bayonetta's actual fighting combos. Gone is the fun of countering specific enemy types and stringing together huge combos by mastering the move sets.

Another annoyance is the over reliance on too many QTEs, mini games and gimmick boss fights that you never actually get use any of Bayonetta's huge combo arsenal against well designed close quarter enemies. Every time you start to enjoy the fighting, it is interrupted by one of these strange events.

End game content for this type of game usually involves unlocking everything and then aiming for platinum medals on the hardest difficulty. However, this time around I have no interest to even try.

As interactive entertainment it's fun and I enjoyed my play time. However I feel no need to replay it again.

First, personally I think Viola has terrible gameplay. Her combos feel very slow and the enemies on this game are too fast to actually clear one combo with her. Also, witch time is difficult to activate, and even if you do, if your parry wasn't frame perfect, then the witch time lasts for less than 1 second. I don't have a problem with her character design in general but with her gameplay.

Also, the game is harder than other Bayonetta's which ruins the point of hack and slash a little bit, and I didn't like the weapons that much as the last game. Performance isn't that good neither. However, getting to the good parts, the combat is perfect like every other game, and the new features like Demon's control make it more interesting in some cases. Harder to learn though. The character designs are vastly improved as well, and the new story - concept is the best in the series.

In general, Bayonetta 3 is great but there are a lot of things they could make better to deliver a better experience.

Bayonetta 3 takes place in multiple places in Multiverse. It’s little bit difficult to explain, but Bayonetta is bumped into a girl named Viola, whos coming from another dimension to warn Bayonetta and ask for her help. An entity known as Singularity unleashes the Homunculi throughout the multiverse in an attempt to destroy each world without it. In the aim to create an Alphaverse. So, Bayonetta has to go other realms to collect five Chaos Gears. In these other realms, or realities, she comes across other Bayonettas which she also gets a new Demons, that are used in battles.

What comes to the gameplay and battle, the game is little bit different. In the past two other Bayonetta games, you can summon Demons to help you in the battle, but in Bayonetta 3, player can now fully control them. The battle system is otherwise pretty much the same than before. You can fight using Bayonetta and her over-the-top fighting system or you can summon Demons. The only thing is that Bayonetta has to dance to keep the summoning up, if she got hit, the summoning stops. There’s also a magic meter that runs out eventually and it need to be charged to summon again.

There’s other characters that can be played as, which are Viola and Jeanne. Controlling Viola the fighting is little bit different, because Viola can enter slow-motion called Witch Time only parrying attacks, when Bayonetta can do it only by dodgin attacks. This sudden change middle of gameplay can feel quite jarring and personally I didn’t learn the parrying very well.

There’s also other gameplay modes; when playing Jeanne and with the Demons. In Jeanne’s gameplay it is sideway scrolling, which I hated. Jeanne has to do sneaking in a facility and get through the area with time-limit. I hate time-limits!!

The huge Demon fights (kaiju) happens couple times in the game. It’s like some slow-motion Street Fighter between two monsters. It was a nice addition to the main gameplay, but it didn’t feel as spectacular as it could’ve.

Even though it might sound that Bayonetta 3 has lots of different gameplay modes, but it fells short. I think Bayonetta 1 and 2 has more over-the-top action happening. This didn’t feel as “crazy” as the other games.

What I loved in the two other games was the music. Bayonetta never let me down with the music aspect, expect in this one. Bayonetta 3 didn’t have the same kind of impact in music and I was so disappointed about it. I had waited to add new Bayonetta music into my music library, but sadly there’s nothing to add.

Graphically the games looks terrible. I think it’s not the developer’s fault, it is Nintendo’s, because Nintendo Switch is over 10 year old mobile technology. This game could easily be on PS3 console, in fact, it doesn’t look much different than the first Bayonetta game, that game out in 2009.

The game had some puzzles here and there. The developer didn’t seem to put much of effort to them, since they were kinda easy to solve, except one which I had to seek help online.

As you probably know the voice-actor-fiasco that Bayonetta 3 had just before the launch, I must say, I didn’t even notice that the Bayonetta voice actor was different. It was voiced by legendary Jennifer Hale, who has done lots of video game actings.

    THE FINAL VERDICT
Bayonetta 3 kinda let me down. It didn’t feel as over-the-top-insane-action as the other two games did. It had its nice moments with the story and few twists here and there. The final twist the game had in the end I did already saw coming. The gameplay was tried to kept fresh by adding new characters to play, but the gameplay fell short and was uninterested. Even the music was a huge let down. Bayonetta 3 was about 10 hours long and it has lots of collectables and some replay-value.

Bayonetta 3 excels in over-the-top madness. In the best possible way. But the story with wacky characters across parallel universes, is just the canvas for the real highlight of Bayonetta 3: the action. The titular witch's lightning-fast attacks are complemented her own magical powers, but you can now also temporarily take control of several enormous creatures, the "Demon Slaves”.
