If you’ve ever wanted to see a sloth in a Santa hat twerking, I’ve got some good news for you. Battlesloths is only $10, and it’s available now.

Battlesloths is a twin stick shooter where you and up to three friends can play as a pizza hungry, hover board riding sloth. There is many weapons, maps, modes and rule sets to choose from to change how you play, making it a pretty fun little party game. There is options for AI, and a little solo campaign tutorial where you can earn stars on different levels, teaching you the different weapons and modes.

I played this game on my own, and with my son and nephew. I had fun each time I played, but I think this is a game that truly shines when playing with others. Playing by myself wasn’t unfun, but I certainly enjoyed going against the kiddos more. I also watched the two of them play a few rounds, and they certainly seemed to enjoy it. For reference, they are both around 10 years old. But I don’t think you have to be ten to have fun.

I personally felt like the controls for the switch were a little clunky, but that could perhaps just be I’m not particularly good at this genre. I do think it would be easier to play with a full controller rather than just one of the joycons when playing locally. I seemed to be struggling more than the kiddos, so maybe it’s just that I’m a little slow and old nowadays.

The AI for the game are a bit dumb at times, and I found that you could kill them rather easily by putting yourself against a wall and shooting them as they run straight at you. There is some difficulty settings, so maybe you could make them a little harder to face against. The campaign option I tried the three star setting and it still didn’t seem overly hard, but I think it was more for teaching purposes. All in all, I still think the best way to play this game is against real humans, as is most games.

The art for this game is super cute and fun. There is a little bit of mildly inappropriate things, depending on how strict you are that might bother you. On the loading screen, a sloth is revolving around a pole, and sometimes when you get a victory your sloth might twerk. There is also pentagrams as some of the weapons. I didn’t feel like it was overly offensive, but maybe someone else will. The sloths are all pretty cute, and you can put hats on them. The game claims to have over 900 hats, which is pretty nutty and certainly gives you a lot of things to unlock. I’m not 100% sure what the conditions are for unlocking hats, if it’s random, I did get a pretty cool unicorn head one though.

I think that this is a game that could possibly get a bit old over time, but if you’re only playing it on occasion with friends, I don’t think it’s too bad for the price. If you’re looking for something to play by yourself over and over again, maybe this isn’t a great fit. If you want a game to bust out on the weekends with a couple friends and maybe some pizza, I think this would work out just fine. Actually overall, I think “just fine” sums up how I feel about this game. It’s cute, silly, and it works. I’ve no real complaints, but no real WOW moments either. For these reasons, I think my rating is a 7 out of 10.

A great time with pointless constraints, Battlesloths takes a winning formula and shoots itself in the foot... again, and again, and again.
