Well made with lots of content. Cool to play together with 1 to 3 friends (up to 4 players). 100 levels take a good amount of time to play through. They can be played together in co-op mode or alone in single player. Has also a versus mode for racing between friends. Overall a solid fun game of creative puzzle adventuring.

While this is a title that has been around for quite some time at this point, I’m surprised by how well it has held up both in terms of its great funky art style and its simple-but-challenging play. For the most part this is a one-button game, which you’ll use to control the flapping of your little furry creature(s) to keep as many as you can alive through all sorts of obstacles and death traps, remembering that in the end you only need one to survive to move in. It’s worth noting that you’ll just want to hold down the button for the amount of oomph you need, tapping the button will end up being a dead end for you quickly. The real price here, though, is just the sheer amount of levels and content that come along for the ride for the budget price, even including local co-op and competitive multiplayer levels as well. If you’ve never picked this up, and your down for a deceptively-tricky action game that has much more polish than its budget price would imply, it’s definitely worth the plunge.

Under this Game of the Year Edition, Badland on the Nintendo Switch brings all its previous additions under one game and its wide amount of content to explore, a sharp physics-based gameplay mechanic and remarkable art style all contribute to make this a game well worthy of consideration from everyone looking for a good challenge.

I give Badland props for its challenge, multiplayer, bold visual style, and content relative to its price. But it’s a game that wears its mid-2010s origins on its sleeves, warts and all. I feel it hasn’t held up as well as hoped and will have its work cut out for it to stand out on the congested Switch eShop. Want to play Badland in 2021? Do so on a mobile device instead. You’ll get touch screen support and more content that way.
