Jun 4, 2020Atomicrops is an unlikely meeting of two genres. Set to the backdrop of a post-nuclear apocalypse, Bird Bath Games finds a way to adequately weave together two styles of gameplay that typically shouldn’t work together. Although there are moments where the two primary modes of play feel like they’re stepping on each others’ toes, those moments are few and far between. Bird Bath’s Atomicrops is an excellent addition to PC and home console indie catalogues.

Jun 3, 2020Atomicrops is more bullet hell than farming sim, but the unique creation is something that is extremely satisfying to look at and play through. Difficulty from a less than awesome health system mixed with the brutal roguelite mechanics makes for an experience that gets frustrating as it regularly takes you out of the fun and forces a restart. Even with that and the slight performance issues, Atomicrops is still a real good time.

May 28, 2020With a few more tweaks in certain areas when it comes to the difficulty and improved farming controls, Atomicrops could easily be a terrific roguelike shooter. As is, though, it’s still enjoyable, with great action that easily keeps you wanting more, a lot of goods to hunt for and try out in order to come up with a good strategy, and eye-popping, vibrant visuals that make astounding use of pixel art. It may be a tricky crop to tackle, but there’s still a rewarding experience here that’s worth checking out.

Jun 29, 2020Atomicrops is a challenging twin-stick shooter with light sim elements presented in beautiful, bizarre pixel-art package. Lacklustre farming controls and frame-rate drops prevent the label of greatness, but at £13.49, it’s well-priced and definitely worth your time.

Jun 4, 2020Atomicrops is an enjoyable Twin-Stick shooter that can provide some good challenge and laughs to people who like Bullet Hell and are ready to let it grow. Don't expect it to be the more polished game on Earth, accept the facts that farming isn't very satisfying and social interactions are quite missing, and you'll probably find a potentially addictive experience.

May 29, 2020There are tons of games out there that play fine, but Atomicrops offers little to make it a memorable, worthwhile experience amidst so much stiff competition on the Switch. I’m guessing that with another year and a few content updates, Atomicrops will be a fantastic little actioner, but in its current state it comes across like an Early Access release that’s hit the eShop too soon.

Jun 9, 2020Now I understand why people like these sorts of games. Atomicrops looks hard, but it doesn’t feel punishing as you’re playing it. It’s hard in a way that’s approachable, and I’ve come to understand each repetition — dying and starting over — is a part of the process. I could hardly think about what I was doing during my earliest runs, I was so overwhelmed. I just shot at things and ran around. But now, I can approach Atomicrops with a plan, knowing just how long I need to clear an area and when to rush back to protect my plants. I’ve learned how to dodge and shoot and water my plants by doing it all at the same time, over and over. Heck, I like the chaos of bullet-hell games now. Or at least the ones where you can make it back to town with a good harvest, and flirt with some strangers before going into battle.
