Like that N64 Wheel of Fortune game of my youth, America’s Greatest Game Shows isn’t anything to write home about. While Jeopardy offers a fairly strong trivia option for Nintendo’s handheld hybrid, Wheel of Fortune is a bit of a quick cash-in that feels a generation or two behind the curve. But, if you’re a diehard fan of either of these shows or you’re just looking for an innocent game for the family to play, you could do a whole lot worse than America’s Greatest Game Shows.

The overall experience is just not there. If you want to guess words or answer trivia questions, it’s fine — but it never aspires to be more than simply “fine.” Given how easy it should be to make these games fun, just being fine doesn’t do the trick.

The entire package is a blatant example of Ubisoft putting in an absolute minority of effort. They failed to license the personalities of Alex Trebek, Pat Sajak and Vanna White, and that level of cheapness permeates the entire title. Wheel of Fortune at least looks and plays like the game show - albeit with slightly awkward touch controls - but I struggle to recommend Jeopardy to anyone. There was virtually no effort put in to making the game feel like the show. The board is a generic spreadsheet grid, and the entire game is a three-option multiple choice trivia game. They may as well have saved even more money and not bothered licensing the Jeopardy name. If you want a much better trivia experience, look toward Ubisoft's far better effort with Trivial Pursuit Live. Expand
