A save game is not a save game anymore. Each time you die you loose all items you have used in the last turn. So dying 5 times in a boss, means you now loose everything since the last bonfire. Means after dying a couple of times at a boss you will loose every item, like health potions you are using during fights, till you have nothing. What the hell is going on with you guys? why you programm this **** Not every game has to be dark souls - The gaming loop worked fine so what made you switch it? These God damned Souls like Loverboys? You turned a decent Metroidvania game into damn sh## now. The hitboxes are a catastrophy now, with the latest Boss (Valo) I had framerate drops, that I never experienced before, sometime freezes, impossible to play. Shame on you!!! Don't play this unless you are not bored by the freaking same same same soulslike unfair bull**** every damn indie Studio puts out these days. So sad, initially this game was quite a really good one. Amazing metroidvania, has some difficultly spikes and some tough platforming but if you played ori and hollow knight this shouldn’t be right in the middle. Yes it does have some enemies one shoting you, which tends to mean you are going off in the wrong direction. The game is very large for a metroidvania and does not hold your hand. Really all this game has going for it is the art style. There’s nothing that’s deal breaking on it’s own but the game is one long (and I do mean long) series of minor annoyances. I can tell some someone really cared but the entire experience falls flat.

Afterimage is a gorgeous looking Metroidvania that wraps itself around its players with an enveloping plot, charismatic characters, and engaging combat system. While some of the exploration tasks can feel out of place at times and the plot takes a while to fully settle in, Afterimage is without a doubt a very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch rich catalogue of Metroidvania games, and one that can stand proudly next to its peers.

Afterimage is a pretty good metroidvania. If you are able to resist its high difficulty peaks, you will find a game with a very nice art style and fun gameplay. However, due to some technical issues, we think there are better platforms to enjoy the game on other than Nintendo Switch.

Afterimage is a Metroidvania with attractive 2D visuals and crisp combat, and it really wants to make sure you’ve earned any victories you get. The action is tricky, especially with the numerous bosses that are smarter than what you may be used to. But if you’re up to the challenge, you’ll find the game’s rewards.
