Amazing feel and just the right amount of nostalgia. I really do enjoy the new direction ID has taken and this has to be their best game yet. There really isn’t a problem with this because it isn’t trying to stick to the immersion that most FPS games try to implement. Doom Eternal is a video game that isn’t trying to pretend it’s some realistic-soon-to-be event. The gameplay mechanics have been better refined and tweak compared to Doom 2016 and challenge has been added as well. The you will often be given simple puzzles, but the challenge comes from the scarcity of ammunition and who to use it on. The fun in the game comes from the challenge and learning to know when to use what really shows the intensity of what the game can provide for a player. The multiplayer is okay Expand

Don’t listen to the red reviews because nearly every single one of them either didn’t understand the way the game was meant to be played and complained about problems that have VERY simple solutions (There’s ammo ALL over the place on top of the ammo you can get from chainsaws. If you run out, that’s your fault. Really difficult to do) or just silly little complaints. It’s more of the same with added content. “BUT I DONT LIKE THE CUTSCENES”

You can skip every single one, plus it’s DOOM, so you won’t hate yourself for skipping anything

    “BUT THE PLATFORMING”

This one gets down to matter of opinion more than anything, but for the most part, it works well enough, is pretty simple, and they don’t take over the game as a whole. I don’t know what that guy was talking about with this being like a Mario game. It’s not like the entire game is just jumping. Hell, one dude complained about how there was too much jumping, then complained about the purple goo (to be fair, I hate that **** too) the next paragraph, just to say “To me, Doom is about Mobility” It seems like a lot of people just weren’t sure of what they wanted out of this game and got something different, and that’s what this game is. I can’t think of another FPS game that plays like Eternal does. It’s an insane power fantasy of a game that I’m gonna find myself going back to over the years. Give the game a shot with an open mind, and you’re practically guaranteed to love it. Doom Eternal is fantastic.

The difficulty is much higher in this game, as you have much less ammo, enemies hit you like a truck, and there are a lot of new enemies to keep track of. If you're new to Doom/Shooters in general, I recommend setting the difficulty on Hurt Me Plenty. (I beat it on Nightmare on my first playthrough cuz I'm just that good)

The Movement is a gift from god. You got double jump instantly, dashes, climbing, swinging on monke bars, the Meat-Hook, ect. It feels so good to zip through the map while blasting demons to dust.

The only thing I can criticize is that the final boss's first phase is kinda annoying, and that's about it. The game reviews who said this game wasn't as good as 2016 just didn't care enough to try and get better. This is one of the best games I've ever played, and will continue playing in the future. There is so much to this game that makes it great that I haven't even talked about. Just get the game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If DOOM 2016 is a 10 then this game definitly is an 8.

The game starts out exactly as we love DOOM. Ripping and tearing. My only gripe with the early game was it felt like a real struggle due to the small size of the slayers arsenal.

It sometimes feels like the combat scenarios are designed relying on players having the extra life pickups. Monsters are super aggressive and incredibly powerful. This creates super mobile gameplay which is very fun but dying is pretty easy and swift.

Level design is great, until you have to go through a swimming section or lots of jumps and dashes. Combat arenas are awesome and the secrets make for fun exploration.

*SPOILER* My last gripe is the marauder. It made for a fun boss fight but not a fun regular enemy. It's like that one dickhead friend who's got the wii u tablet in new super mario bros u and is just blocking everyone with their platforms. A brick wall being planted in front of your vehicle while driving down the highway. Maybe if they had 40-60% less health, it wouldnt be as bad. But they were easily the least fun part of the game by a long **** Maybe I should have bought it on PC! *SPOILER END*

As the story played out and got more involved for the slayer, it got flippen awesome. The gameplay was sick as I ripped and teared through my enemies. Dashes and chainsaws and glory kills made for satisfying and rewarding gameplay. And as one could expect, Mick Gordon killed it. This soundtrack blew DOOM 2016 out of the water.

I wasnt interested in the MP just because it looks like a different way to experience the campaign essentially. But I'm sure it's fun in it's own right. Maybe if I feel the need to slay again in the future, that can fill that need.

Doom Eternal features 2 modes, an online competitive mode where a demon slayer is heavily unfairly matched with infinitely spawning player controlled demons that just isn’t really fun unless you’re on the demon side, so imam just throw that mode away and focus on the reason everyone is buying doom eternal.. its hefty 17 hour long demon filled campaign, and this campaign is really great… here you play as a demon slayer, taking on zombies and demons on earth as well as mars, going through a fairly linear campaign, but one filled with traversal and platforming, which is a very welcomed change.. however I feel this new addition takes a back seat to the straight up demon slaying, which on paper sounds fine, but ultimately it leads to an incohesive feeling world that feels like a bunch of random video game elements stapled together.. and this is Doom Eternals biggest issue…. Nothing feels purposeful, it feels mindless and repetitive from start to finish, none of the levels are memorable, the combat is constant, never giving you a chance to breathe or explore, it’s a headache… playing through doom eternal is an enjoyable headache.. but still a headache…
combat that time around is much more enjoyable though. Enemies having their weaknesses, making almost every battle feel like a puzzle despite feeling mindless at the same time, rarely leading to frustrating encounters.. but don’t get me wrong.. those encounters do exist.. though rare.. theres one over powered enemy specifically that kills all and any fun youll be having with this game in an instant… more specifically in one area of the game where youre trapped with him and a snake enemy, and no ammo or health really around… which brings me to another gripe I have with doom eternal, its health and ammo situation… ammo health and armor really feel nonexistent in doom eternals world, instead the game relies on you using your abilities to obtain armour and health, you can catch enemies on fire and freeze them, you have chainsaw enemies for ammo… but I just feel like id much rather have ammo drops after killing enemies than forced to find a small one I can chainsaw..wait for that chainsaw to refuel and do it again… the chainsaw system in general is a nonsensical mess… you can store up to 3 chainsaw attacks, however there is no enemy you can kill with 2 fuels… so whats the point… theres 1 and theres 3… and then you have enemies later on that cant be attacked with the chainsaw at all because theyre too big… these enemies should be reserved for 3.. and the middle large enemies killed with 2.. it just leads to fuel hording, and the payoff is never worth it.. but that can be said for this games weapons as well, youre given amazing weapons towards the end of the game, but rarely any fuel to use them, which begs me to ask.. why even give them to me in the first place.. especially the sword… this item didn’t come into play and was basically unusable until the final boss… but if this was that weapons only purpose, I suppose that’s okay… but I feel if that is the case you should’ve just waited longer to give it to me… All in all I do feel Doom Eternal is a great game, its fun zombie slaying to heavy metal, theres a crazy amount of weapons, and different ways to upgrade these weapons, customize them to your gameplay… but just don’t believe the hype… go into doom eternal expecting a great game and not an amazing game or a masterpiece and you surely wont be disappointed…
But if you go in expecting game of the year, youre going to get smacked with level design and gameplay that feels plucked out of the old god of war games with guns stapled to it
    I give Doom Eternal
    an 8/10

    - Forced to use chainsaw constantly
    - Super annoying platforming, instead ditching it (already bad in 2016) they put it on steroids
    - More linear maps than 2016
    - Ugly menus and HUD. No matter how much you change colors. Disabling it gimps your gameplay
    - Worst of all, the hideous red LOW AMMO bar, blocking your view (you'll see lot of that)
    - The font used everywhere makes Comic Sans look good
    - Literally, the UI designer must be blind or retarded or both
    - Confusing, nonsensical story nobody cares about.. constant cutscenes break the action
    - Doom guy isn't as brutal anymore, he calmly listens to the idiotic speeches the NPCs give
    - No pickup animation for guns, instead collect ugly floating neon icons -> teleport to tutorial
    - You're forced to use all guns, by being out of ammo constantly --> time for chainsaw
    - Ugly garish rainbow colored pickups pouring out of enemies
    - Guns are ugly 90's style floating pickups now, instead of grounded look of 2016
    - Graphics not really that impressive, art style is cartoony compared to 2016. Technically maybe better graphics, artistically NOT better
    - Music is good, but not as good as 2016, Mick Gordon going through motions, nearly all of the riffs suck compared to 2016

Doom Eternal is the most disappointing game I have ever played. The platforming is a disaster, the UI is garish and counter-intuitive, the cutscenes exist, melee probably should have been removed if they were gonna make it this weak. The dash, while good in theory makes normal movement feel slow which is exactly the opposite of how Doom should feel. And finally, the ammo management.Doom Eternal is the most disappointing game I have ever played. The platforming is a disaster, the UI is garish and counter-intuitive, the cutscenes exist, melee probably should have been removed if they were gonna make it this weak. The dash, while good in theory makes normal movement feel slow which is exactly the opposite of how Doom should feel. And finally, the ammo management. The max ammo you can hold has been cut by more than half since Doom 2016. Insecure fanboys will shout (and I mean SHOUT) all kinds of justifications about this at you, but the fundamental issue is this: Doom eternal wants you play the game a very specific way. For all the talk about how it's "strategic" it forces you to adopt one very specific strategy--use all the ammo in all your guns then hunt down trash demon and chainsaw it for more ammo. There's two problems with this. First, I don't want to be forced into a specific way of playing the game. Second, the game does a TERRIBLE job telling you that that's the intended way to play and even worse job encouraging it. If you're going to make killing imps/possessed the name of the game, you should make it so they don't stop spawning until the big baddies are dead. And should make sure that they aren't on the other side of the arena than the mini-boss enemies. Having to turn around and sprint away from a mancubus so I can chainsaw an imp in some odd corner of the arena isn't just a limiting design decision; it's an objectively bad one and on that runs counter to the supposed "keep pushing forward nature of Doom."

Again, the fanboys who can't stand hearing their precious criticized will tell you that this is so you can't rely on one weapon, but you don't need an ammo limit to do that anyway. The devs did a great job ensuring that each weapon has it's uses, you can't ignore any of them. In fact, the ammo limit hurts here, because often you're forced to use less-than-ideal weapons simply because they're the only ones with ammo.

Cramped level design that impedes movement, ridiculously low ammo cap (less than 1/2 the ammo of 2016's Doom), teeeeeerrrrrible platforming, cutscenes (yes, really), melee that's worse than useless and the worst UI I've seen this year.

Doom Eternal forces you to consider managing your resources for things like ammo, because weapon ammo capacity has been reduced from 2016. I personally think this is a good thing and I welcome the changes and the increase of difficulty. It requires me and other players to think about how they play the game. It helps keep the player engaged with the combat loop. I find the gameplay addicting and fun. I recommend old Doom players alike to try out this newest game in the franchise and new players to try out Doom 2016 first and then play Eternal. Expand

Battlemode matchmaking is super jank. The rest of the game is a masterpiece of gameplay.

Incredibly fun and huge replay value when it comes to figuring out new moves, combos, and other mechanics. Enjoyed the movement mechanics and the huge trial and error moments I faced during the game. You can't just go in making dumb decisions, you have to mentally plan it out and know what you're doing and execute it well. Very enjoyable!

Literally the best game I've ever played. the combat is so smooth like the guns and the movement work together to form some of the best combat ever crafted.

The gameplay is fast, requires you to be aggressive and to use all the tools the game gives you to survive. I was afraid that all the new weapons and gadgets would make the game too easy when compared to Doom 2016 but that is not the case. This game is obscene amounts of fun.

It's amazing, best 60 dollars I ever spent on a game. The soundtrack is amazing, The combat and mechanics can be combined to do some cool while making you look like a god.

How is this so addictive? Could it be the music, killing demons, a combination of both? I don't know but it is a great stress reliever and the highest difficulty while dying over and over again to endlessly combat spawn of hell... And then getting it right at last. Ufffff, the dopamine hit!

Try this game. You won't regret it. Highly recommend.

This is the doom like the good old days. Violent and nostalgic (and you can get more than one game)

Consigliatissimo

Perfect gunplay and beautiful graphics! Even though I am not a fan of Metal music, DOOM Eternal's soundtrack is f***ing amazing. DOOM wouldn't be the same game without the soundtrack! In my opinion the best game to showcase that Stadia is capable of delivering a solid FPS experience!

Pure, unadulterated graphic violence...but those demons had it coming. With no installs, no downloads, no constant patches, Stadia makes playing this classic, gory shooter a dream.

Challenging game. Addictive. I need a break after 2 hours at the latest. This version on Stadia runs absolutely smooth and looks good.

Honestly DOOM Eternal is an absolute MUST PLAY on Google Stadia. It is shockingly impressive how such a twitchy beautifully gorey game plays on the cloud.

The game puts you into a weird meditative state the devs refer to as flow. As you play you get really good at the mechanics and balancing everything and start to get to a point where you are so in-tune with what's going on it's unlike

I've played a lot of shooters, and none of them give you that like this game does.

I would say DOOM Eternal is effectively a perfect game. It's style may not appeal to everyone on earth but the game is exactly what is advertised, and more.

It may not reach the sublime heights of its predecessor, but Doom Eternal is bursting at the seams with hellacious action.

When everything works, DOOM Eternal on Stadia works like in the rest of platforms. That is something that depends, mostly, of your ISP connection. During our test we didn't experienced input lag or video artifact, and even if it isn't native 4K, it moves like a charm. Mice and keyboard control (as is with the pad) also responds without problems.
