It's a great change of pace form the strict style of traditional NBA games and it's extremely satisfying to take a scrub from the street and posterize Yao Ming. Just don't plan on doing much else.

NBA Ballers: Rebound is difficult to actually fault – unless you plan to play for more than 30 minutes. [May 2006, p.120]

The first game that made me want to spike my PSP in frustration. In that sense, it manages to truly recapture the home console experience of being angry enough with a game to destroy equipment. Past that, it's a title mired with long load times and not-so-great controls.
  4. For the time being, we'd rather play Ballers than EA's "NBA Street," and that's really all you need to know.

Unfortunately for the portable version, a lack of additional content, system hampered controls and exorbitant load times really hinder the game for no apparent reason.

You need to be an NBA aficionado to get the most out of Rebound, but for those who aren't this still delivers slick and feature-packed balling. [May 2006, p.85]

The few new modes exclusive to the PSP can't offset the lack of unlockable content when compared to the console. [Aug 2006, p.83]
  8. If you have played the original, then Rebound will likely feel a bit stale, a bit empty, and more than a bit slow.

An annoying little game that plays just well enough for us to nearly forgive the ridiculousness of it. [Issue#139, p.93]

It's not that the game is particculary lacking in any area, but Ballers lacks the personality to be considered any more than a week-long fling. [May 2006, p.86]
  11. It's rare that a PSP game can truthfully claim to be an enhancement of its PS2 forebear, but NBA Ballers Rebound comes pretty close.

A simple port of the popular franchise downsized to fit in the palm of your hand. Granted the core game mechanic is still tons of fun in small doses I believe that was the game’s main goal in the first place and this iteration nails it flawlessly.
