    The 2nd instalment in the Gretzky NHL series improves on some of the shortcomings of its predecessor. The frame-rate and AI are improved. The game introduces new modes for player to enjoy. 3 on 3 hockey is an NHL Hitz style mode with no offsides and big hits. The Wayne vs Wayne mode is an arcade style 5 on 5 hockey with simplified rules. The Wayne vs Wayne mode is an arcade style 5 on 5 hockey with simplified rules. In Wayne vs Wayne, the players collect something the game calls "the 99 Time". Throwing big hits, winning face-offs, one-timers, shots on goal and outplaying your opponent will add a set number of seconds on your clock. When you hit a certain number of seconds, you will be able to call Wayne Gretzky to play for your team, giving you a 6 on 5 power play. NHL's affiliate league, the American Hockey League is present in the game. Sadly the AHL teams aren't playable, still the full rosters are available, and the player may move the players from AHL to NHL and vice versa. The lack of the 'create a player' or create a team are a real bummer dough.… Expand

    Gretzky '06 piles up some new features, does a better job of tracking franchise info, and has the AHL license for minor-league teams. It does not, however, come close to equaling the on-ice fun of "NHL 2k6" or "NHL '06."

    Despite the occasionally erratic opponent AI and the small framerate stutters here and there, this is still a solid game of hockey. The game modes are decent enough with 3 on 3 Countdown being one of the most enjoyable.

    While it lacks common features like player creation or a franchise mode, it also has better (or less cheap, at least) AI than the console version.
