BlakeT.Apr 3, 2005I never played the platform version, but if it is anything like the PSP version, it is a waste of money. The game might be ok if the controls were not so terrible. The analog stick control is awful. Plus, I spend more time repositioning the camera than actually playing the stupid game. The music is boring and never changes. Wait for this one to hit the bargain bin -which should be pretty soon.

LorbenOct 4, 2006After playing both the PS1 and PSP version of this game, it makes it pretty obvious it was designed with two analog sticks in mind. It

MattW.Apr 22, 2005Had the game for the playstation and it was awesome but the PSP has slightly changed the controls and was definitely for the better..Id say if you liked it for PS1 or just like adventure games this a challenging must have game for your collection.

RonW.Mar 28, 2005This is awesome. I just got it and I love it! Some idoits may tell you it is just the same as the first, but being a die-hard Ape Escape fan I know its different. They added a whole new level, redid other levels, updated the audio and visual, added new minigames (duh), changed monkey descriptions, and replaced most Specter Coins. All Ape escape fans MUST buy this game!

PatrickF.Jul 11, 2005The PSX version i must say was more fun. I thought it was a new storyline but it isnt. The inverted slingshot controls etc drive me nuts as well as the terrible camera control. Catching and walking is fine in my mind.

ZoeM.Dec 30, 2007I think that this game is fun and can get addicting although the the camera and bad controlling makes the gae less enjoyable and annoying. The graphics are average and the sound really fits into the game but you find you put it on mute after a while as it gets annoying.

DavidB.Mar 27, 2005I really enjoyed it, but it is the first game i purchased so i guess the bar was none. It plays like a solid adventure platformer, and the gadgets were inventive.

Jun 5, 2013Near perfect remake of the original hit on the PS1 Ape Escape. Only thing that would have made it better is if it was remade for the PS2 or PS3, and if they kept the same control scheme.

Oct 25, 2020Ain't have bad for a remake of a ps1 game. I never owned an original Playstation. This is a portable version of an old game. Sure the graphics are mediocre but I just love kid friendly games like this and Klonoa 2 Lunatea's Veil which is a platformer with one of the greatest stories in gaming. This game despite missing a second analogue stick is the best platformer on a misunderstood system.

While it was a decent games for the PSOne, especially popular with the kiddies, it seems a waste of the PSP.
-
The only major problem with Ape Escape is it doesn't really offer a thrilling gameplay experience. Much like the original, it lacks that all important "wow" factor.
-
The finely tuned control that made the first game such a hit seems to have been lost in translation, but the game still has considerable charm.
