    The best money can buy as it is for a racing game for ps1. Test drive 6 is a close 2nd. I spent hours on celtic ruins avoiding the police spike strips and road blocks. Driving around at more than 100 mph and driving great looking vehicles. Porche's lamborghini's, ferrari's, and the awesome orange mclaren what a prize it was to win it all.     This game has many interesting cars. Its graphics don't work well on my computer, but it is still a fun and cool game!!!!!

    I greatly prefer High Stakes on PS1 over the PC version, probably because I grew up with the PC version of Hot Pursuit, which runs on a simpler version of the same engine. Granted, the same can be said with the PS1 versions of the same games, but I still do prefer this one.

    Es este el mejor NFS de toda la historia? Hmm, eso es debatible, definitivamente es uno de los mejores. Los nuevos añadidos de este juego hacen en cierta medida una mejora considerable a Need For Speed 3 como el modo career (en su mayoría, ya diré porque), mayor personalización en el modo carrera simple, y persecuciones mucho mas intensas, ademas de una mucho mayor cantidad de autos. SinEs este el mejor NFS de toda la historia? Hmm, eso es debatible, definitivamente es uno de los mejores. Los nuevos añadidos de este juego hacen en cierta medida una mejora considerable a Need For Speed 3 como el modo career (en su mayoría, ya diré porque), mayor personalización en el modo carrera simple, y persecuciones mucho mas intensas, ademas de una mucho mayor cantidad de autos. Sin embargo, que lo mas importante en cualquier juego de carreras son sus controles y su diseño de pistas, y como se defiende con esto con respecto a NFS3? Bueno, para empezar, los controles no son tan perfectos como los de NFS3 en PC, quitando en cierta medida la libertad de doblar curvas cerradas de forma perfecta al soltar el acelerador en el momento justo si sos habilidoso, pero siguen defendiendose muy bien y definitivamente son una enorme mejora a los del NFS3 de PS1, al menos al ir en asfalto (ya diré mas adelante porque), y el diseño de pistas, todas fueron buenos añadidos, aunque... algo que en lo personal no me gusto es que sean mucho mas estrechas que en NFS3 y la pista Snowy Ridge (ya dire porque). El juego peca un poco de tener pocas pistas. Que si, que muchos me podrían decir que NFS3 solo tenia 4 pistas que luego se duplicaban, pero estas "copias" se sentían muy distintas mas adelante, tanto en la forma como en el apartado gráfico. A pesar de que todas las pistas de NSF4 sean distintas, me parecieron menos memorables y con peor diseño que las del 3, aunque otras siguen dando la talla, como pueden ser Route Adonf, Landstrasse o Raceway 2. Y si bien no tiene las pistas del NFS3 como en la version de PC, estas me parecieron algo mal implementadas y de relleno, asi que no las extraño.
    Pasemos ahora al modo career, el punto "fuerte" del juego. Básicamente es lo que tomaría forma en futuros juegos de la saga. Elegir un coche, ganar carreras, mejorarlo, comprar nuevos coches, etc. En la base este es un gran añadido, y le da mucha rejugabilidad y personalización, sin embargo, no soy fan de pagar fortuna por los daños en los vehiculos, aunque algo positivo es que a diferencia de en PC, nos pagan por carrera asi podemos compensar los daños. Algo que también hace peor para mi (pero esto ya es mas personal), es la banda sonora. La música del menu principal es excelente, acá no hay quejas, sin embargo, la música de las carreras, aparte de dejar de ser interactiva, la siento mucho mas genérica y menos memorable que en el 3. También sigue teniendo algunas de las cosas irritantes de la versión de PS1 del NFS3 especialmente en el modo persecución.
    No quisiera extenderme mas porque ya dije todo lo que tenia que decir. En la base este juego sorprendentemente supera al NFS3 de PC, cosa que creía imposible, incluso mejoro los gráficos, que al igual que el 3 se ven adelantados para la época! Pero los puntos negativos hacen que lo haya disfrutado mucho menos, por lo que en lugar de un 9 mejor se quedara en un 8. Definitivamente supera al NFS3 de PS1. Entiendo perfectamente porque es el favorito de la saga de muchos, pero creo que NFS3 era un producto mucho mas simple y pulido a nivel general, con mejores controles, pistas, dificultad y presentación.    … Expand

    The best game in the history of the Need for Speed ​​series. The variety of cars amazes the player with the graphics and gameplay of the cars along with competitive and realistic races. Exceptional voice acting along with various maps and masterpiece music make this version a work of art.

    Este juego ofrece esa única experiencia característica de la saga en los años 90, y aunque no tenga una historia de trasfondo el juego se las ingenia para promover al jugador a conseguir tan complicados logros.

    A nivel gráfico hay que destacar que dio más de lo que debería, con detalles inusuales en los juegos de la época (como referencia tomemos en cuenta que además de las luces especulares y los detalles del interior del coche, incluyendo movimientos del manubrio, está los paisajes que incluso a días de hoy se conservan frescos a diferencia de las dos primeras entrega).
    Los efectos sonoros están bien ambientados para la ubicación geográfica de cada pista (sonidos ambientales que incluyen animales, cascadas, entre otros).
    La música es perfecta para el contexto gracias al trabajo que hizo rom di prisco en el campo del techno, música ideal para un juego de carreras en los 90.
    En cuanto al contenido creo que es alucinante, pues es el primer juego que incluye un sistema de personalización y mejoras representados en un esquema básico. El juego incluyó un sistema monetario en el que compras un auto, lo vendes o lo mejoras, reparos cada vez que terminaba una carrera y a lo mejor tenías que tener cierto presupuesto para avanzar, con las mejoras sacrificando la rapidez con la que vas avanzando, y aún más genial su técnica, haciendo que el jugador tenga que pasárselo para desbloquear pistas y coches. Y si creen que el juego es monótono, pueden irse al diablo, puesto que a pesar de la reducida cantidad de coches tenemos a los mas representativos y queridos del momento. Los circuitos con lugares diferentes, incluyendo Europa, América e Inglaterra.
    La jugabilidad es única y firme, requiriendo de una gran habilidad para el dominio de cada coche para obtener el éxito, es una extraña simulación fuera de lugar, pero es comoda y perfecta para un sistema competitivo.
    Las físicas también son peculiares debido a que se siente como un cartón pesado, generando colisiones subreales en los que el golpe le da vueltas al coche, insitandote a nunca estrellarte, y el otro dato que también te da una advertencia al momento de competir son las colisiones que afectan el rendimiento en la competición (motor, suspensión y carrocería) además de que las reparaciones cuestan dinero, lo cual varía del coche y el nivel de daño.
    Los modos de juego son varios, en caso de haber completado los campeonatos puedes echarte un buen rato probando competiciones individuales organizadas en tus pistas (pudiendo configurarla a tu gusto) usando tus coches personalizados para batir records. Y si no es eso, está el test drive, para conducir con trafico en una sola vuelta, o el hot pursuit en el que puedes ser un patrullero o un fugitivo apoyado con las diferentes patrullas que puedes desbloquear.
    CONTRAS:
    *El diseño de los coches no son fieles al mismo en su totalidad, obteniendo medidas erróneas al comparar uno con otro.

    When they say "High Stakes", they weren't kidding. In the Career mode you buy expensive cars and upgrade them to stage 1, 2 and 3. At the end of each tournament, you race for pinks, and you can't restart the game! Is it raining at night and you just smashed your headlight and have to drive in pitch dark? Too bad buddy. I used to pull the plug out my computer just to avoid losing my car. IWhen they say "High Stakes", they weren't kidding. In the Career mode you buy expensive cars and upgrade them to stage 1, 2 and 3. At the end of each tournament, you race for pinks, and you can't restart the game! Is it raining at night and you just smashed your headlight and have to drive in pitch dark? Too bad buddy. I used to pull the plug out my computer just to avoid losing my car. I don't think any racing game has made me that nervous short of NFS Most Wanted. The cops were aggressive and smart, the handling was realistic, the dashboard view was perfect, you could use your horn, your lights, and tune the car to your liking. As a cop you could switch with other cop cars to catch a racer, deploy spike strips and call for a helicopter, or even fly a helicopter! The music gave me goosebumps, and the showcase, narration and videos describing each car in detail made all of them feel very special. I hope EA comes to their senses and remakes this game without omitting any of the things that made it truly great.… Expand

    Third best racing game on the system by far after the two Gran Turismo games. Phenomenal graphics and physique, great car selection and new damaging model and easy to pick up and play.

    This game is something truly special. Classic Need for Speed flaunting its best characteristics: fancy cars, good progression system, exotic tracks, brilliant soundtrack and pissy cops. Good stuff and great addition to a PS1 library!
