NaomiM.Nov 4, 2004This game is not a mockery, i really like it and the story, yeah, its got some problems, but they all do! This is one of the best! Better than 7!

Jun 13, 2011This game knows how to suck you in. The Junction System may seem weird first but offers many possibilities for different combinations. The Story, altough getting a little stuck in the end, is pretty epic. It focuses on the main chara like no other RPG, probably also a reason why the other characters come a bit short. The Soundtrack is great, the battle system very smooth. Superb Game.

Aug 15, 2011A simple masterpiece to the fullest extent.
Everything in is game is carefully crafted and so much care is taken to make a connection with these characters and their epic struggle to save the world.
Easily my favorite game and would highly recommend this to fans of Final Fantasy 7! -

StevenP.Dec 27, 2007Fantastic game, even today i enjoy playing it, great characters and an excellent storyline, although in my younger years i didn't understand most of it, it all became clear once i matured and began to think outside the box. Today this game may not seem like much compared to more graphical and mainstream final fantasy games, but this is a true classic! it clearly stands out above the rest!

BradW.Jul 27, 2008Simply amazing. This game is everything you'd expect from Final Fantasy, most notably a great story with an amazing ensemble of characters. This, along with FF7, are among my most favorite games to date.

Jan 19, 2011My favorite RPG of the PSX era and probably of all time. This game is so deep in every single level. Story, Gameplay and Graphics. Even the mini game inside the game was incredibly fun.

LeonDec 6, 2002This game is great. It has great graphics and a very unique storyline. It really is a great game worth playing.

NightkinMar 27, 2005The best Final Fantasy game to come out on PS, or possibly ever up to that point in time. FF VIII far surpasses Final Fantasy VII in graphics, story and ingenuity. It is perhaps people's attachment to FFVII's novelty when it first came out that make their bias judgments for it so liberal and judgments for this one so harsh.

PaulineMay 3, 2005I personally thought this was a great game. The setting and characters truly moved me. And the musical score was just absolutely superb. Although some of the characters didn't receive great character development, it was the two main ones that was truly great. Although there are many flaws in the game, I highly recommend it.

JimK.Dec 30, 2002I loved this game, because of how well-put this game was made. The romantic storyline intersecting with the main character trying to save the world, was really nice. The FMV movies in the game are spectacular! Maybe as good as FFX's. You would feel sorry if you missed out on this great Final Fantasy game.

DamionK.Dec 31, 2006Amazing game. Just stunning game play - (hours of it) and unlike some of the future games (like X), it allows for a great deal of mobility of when you want to complete particular quests and go adventuring on the side quests. Definately worth while.

ChristineW.Sep 16, 2007So addicting. I've played VII and IX too, and I have no idea how this game scored lower than the both of them. The story is great and the romance is tasty. Graphics are pretty nice too for that time. I LOVE THIS GAME. The juctioning system is a bit confusing at first, but you'll get used to it.

DeniseG.T.May 28, 2007Ehe, easily my favorite game. The characters are just great and there isnt really a sob feast element going on like in 7, although I do have to admit that Squall was a bit a cry baby, but that made him cuter for some reason. The graphics were amazing for its time. Overall a really excellent game

TylerHAug 29, 2008This game is truly a masterpiece. The characters, story, combat system, and graphics are top notch. Never have I played a game that kept me so interested in what was next.

Aug 2, 2015easily one of the best JRPGs I've ever played, the music is flawless, the junction system works really well (although some people don't like it), the animations on the GF's are gorgeous for its time. And yes, this is a JRPG, you have to do a lot of grinding, so stop whining. Between this one and the FFVII, for me, I have to consider a tie.

Oct 31, 2018The junction system is masterpiece i love it!
The only bad thing about this game is the poor character writing most of the characters don't have enough screen time, it's only Squall and Rinoa.
it has the final dungeon of all FF series. -
Jun 21, 2011Guardian Forces are easy to exploit but other than that, this game is the closest thing to perfection unleashed on mankind. Gameplay is fun, graphics are playable (even today), story is great and the game has the deepest, most beautiful cast of characters ever created in the world of video games. If you like RPGs, you will fall in love with FFVIII.
-
May 27, 2012My second favorite final fantasy game next to final fantasy 9! This game just kept having crazy twists one after another! Very underated game! One of the best games ever!
-
NikMOct 22, 2009The only things I didn't like in the game were the Junction and Battle systems, but the music, character depth and plot more than made up for it. :) My favourite game next to FFVII, but it's a really close call.

Feb 28, 2011Favorite FF game so far. The characters are much more developed than in VII and the junction system is actually something I'd consider a good feature.

Jul 15, 2012Final Fantasy VIII is a good game. One of the reasons that it is good is that it's a lot different from other Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy VIII manages to include Science Fiction aspects as well as a great fantasy story that fans of the Final Fantasy series have come to love. The battle system is nothing special but the very unique story makes up for the flaws that this game has.
-
Dec 16, 2012One of the greatest game series to come out of Japan, an epic masterpiece that will entertain you from beginning to end. Its one of the big 3 Final Fantasy games that came out in quick succession, with VIII, and IX, during the series glory years.

Feb 4, 2011This game good i love the junction its the best, people who say its **** then go play different game this game was may long ago its not new and why play it if you only care about hot girls and the combat is not **** if you think its **** then your noob go play different game that good for you.
-
Feb 18, 2012This game is definitly one of the best, love the junctions and it has more summons than all of the others which is cool. It has better gameplay than IX however i loved IX story the best of any FF game. the gameplay of VIII isnt as good as VII but it is a better story which wins me over. Now that VII has crisis core and all the other VII's it makes it almost equal, but not quite!

Sep 10, 2013This is my favourite RPG of all time.
Its crazy that this game which was released in 1999 has storyline that lasts about 60 hours! I have played this game for more than 140 hours and I'm still loving every second. These days you are lucky to get more than 20 hours from a single player game.
Great story, characters, gameplay, experience, atmosphere and world! -
Jan 27, 2014Simply the best Final Fantasy game ever made, and maybe my favourite game of all time
So much depth to it, i played FF7 before it but that never ever hooked me the way 8 did back in 1999
Love the characters aswell, Squall is easily one of the coolest chars in any game and how can you not like Rinoa? -
Dec 30, 2012Amazing game, full of original ideas for its time, epic story line with loads of side quests and hidden bosses. Would love a graphically updated re-release :)
-
May 11, 2012This game is very good. people say that the combat system is complicated and the storyline is confusing.. its not, you need to get into the game instead of just turning it on and doing a review. I have beaten this game mutliple times and it it very good.

Jan 2, 2014I fell in love Final Fantasy VIII. Well done literally EVERYTHING. The combat system, story, music, bosses, graphics-in this game, everything is perfect. I look at it from the FF series fan. I know that I'm not entirely objective but this game has that something. As for me, the best RPG for PC and PSX.
-
Dec 14, 2013My brothers love this game but more importantly, i do. This game is a master piece just like one of the other favorable best games out on the market these days. So far i only played it on PS2 and will be again on PC via steampowered. I can spend alot of time in the game just leveling up my characters and their abilities. I also love IX and X. 10/10 Excellent work with this 1, square EA

Nov 18, 2013I make it a POINT to play this game at least once a year. This game never gets boring and I get sucked into the storyline just as much as I did the first time I played in 99. This is a must play game. Play this and you will realize why I HATE FFXIII
-
Mar 19, 2014Simply put: One of the best games ever created. This truly defined my gaming experience not only as a child, but also an adult. From Junctioning to Drawing, to its excellent combat, this game truly innovated the gaming industry. Both this game and Final Fantasy 7 will be my favorites in the series.

Feb 28, 2013The magic drawing, altough i like the "traditional" way more, is an interesting feature along with the junction system. The story is not like FF VII but focuses more on the main character and shows him changing his own for better, which is shown great. FF VIII has also nice graphics and superb FMV´s and also a wonderful soundtrack. Top game.
-
Oct 16, 2011Haters gonna hate, this is the best FF, if VII is your favorite dont mean nothing, VIII has the best story, characters, music, everything is perfect here, if you think VII's better, go play it, but don't come here to say something stupid like that.

May 16, 2011FF VIII isn't the best of the series -- especially when it's compared to VII. However, it still offers up some impressive visuals and great new features. Pros: An unbelievable amount of depth in its graphics, story, setting, characters, and gameplay that's ahead of its time. Cons: Battles occur too frequently; the Battle system itself truly blows.
-
May 26, 2014not a perfect game i should admit...but i don´t know the story just capture me i simpy love the progression of squall( i identify with him a LOT) and just love the way Rinoa is...my favorite RPG of all times n_n

M.IngramOct 2, 2004A good game, but not a perfect one. The draw command is time consuming and the magic it draws much too weak. The aim of the game, whilst on VII focused on a single objective, never seems sure and changes wildly, even in the last few hours. Play VII first before you call this game anything near 'incredible', or 'fantastic'.

BryanM.Dec 2, 2006This is a very good game I also like the mini game. My only problem was the graphics it looks like they tried to make it look so good but they really made it look bad.

Mar 24, 2014Squall isn't a likeable protagonist at all, the magic system is super boring (drawing/casting is easily the worst magic system ever created), the cast is a mixed bag. The music, atmosphere, mini games, & satisfaction (if you do the cards into items/no level up strategy) more than make up for it though. Honestly it's my favourite PSX Final Fantasy.
-
Dec 25, 2013So many problems in this game. Drawing system and junction system are so much busy work. Annoying and awkward characters. Story is unfocused, bizarre and full of plot holes. The game includes some satisfying scenes and battles.

Dec 29, 2012My opinion is split over this game. On one hand, we have a decent story, amazing graphics/soundtrack, and interesting concept. On the other hand, we have rather limited development for most characters, an unorthodox but definitely unenjoyable battle system, and an overdose of melodrama.

Jun 3, 2020Starts too slow. Junction system was a confusing mess. And even when understood, it was not nearly as fun as FF7's materia system, FF9's abilities system, or FF6's job system. And seriously: only 6 playable characters this time? Too few. And none really that interesting. Even if it was not sandwiched between two great games 7 and 9, FF8 would still come end up at the bottom of my trash.
-
WillTJan 10, 2010This game's probelm isn't it's looks, it's not that the games boring it's just that all the junction and card game is terrible, if you don't like grinding, then stay away from this, worth a spin-off at least, but not lower than 70%

Unfortunately while the game is graphically superior to FFVII, in terms of setting, story and controls it lags way behind.

Spanning four discs, this is a massive RPG. You can try and skate through it in 50 hours but can easily spend over a 100 hours playing if you decide to take on all of the side games, collect all of the Cards and experience all there is to experience from this game.
