The guy below has no idea what he even talks about. The game runs great and looks decent on vita so it definitely should be considered a platform of choice for anyone interested in handhelds.

    Things I liked:
The creatures you capture throughout the game are called Mirages, most are extremely creative or just really over the top and interesting to admire when you first see them. Lots of WOW moments when seeing a mirage for the first time.

Catching them is creative and not overly challenging. You get a prism to catch a certain mirage when you first meet a Mirage. If it is my first time meeting a Cockatrice then I get a prism specifically to catch a Cocatrice. Each mirage needs a specific way to put them into the capturing state. They aren't complicated. The common methods are: getting their health low, hitting them with specific elemental attacks (fire, ice, water), put a status effect on it (confusion, blindness, poison). There are many more ways to and each mirage is guaranteed to have the same capturing method as the others. There's a skill called Libra that tells you all the info you need on the mirage and it's very low requirements to use the Libra skill in battle.

Needing specific mirages to continue. Sometimes you'll need a water mirage to bypass a barrier sometimes you'll need a mirage with the flutter ability to fly over a small canyon between paths. You'll need to expand and bring the necessary mirages with you to progress. It makes you have a variety of mirages and not over level a few mirages throughout the game. That said, you can over level mirages somewhat easily. When you defeat an enemy it gives you whole party of 8 or 10 mirages( I forget) exp to level up.

The mirages leveling stats is simple and useful. Each time your mirage levels up from defeating Mirages, you get SP. SP lets you gain useful stats like higher defense, strength or new stronger elemental abilities. You can see exactly how your mirages are progressing. You have freedom to choose somewhat as long as they are next in line in your skill tree. You generally have a choice of 1-3 stats to boost and when you make a choice, it opens a path to a new stat boost.

Bosses are huge and challenging enough if your stack is not matching up elemental wise. Example: You're fighting a Mega Red Dragon and you don't have a water mirage which is its weakness. Water > fire. You can't change your mirage stacks within battles only between battles. If you're in a boss fight you can't change until you win or lose.

Catching mirages gives you xp. If one of your stacks die and your second one lives, only your second stack and reserve mirages get xp.

Story is interesting. Not edge of my seat interesting but made me want to pay attention throughout the story which is rare for me personally.

    Cons:
Choppy frame rate SOMETIMES! I would say rarely but you will definitely notice it every ~10 minutes I would estimate.

Loading screens after every battle. You will battle a lot of mirages often. Even you escape a battle to shorten it, you still have to do a loading screen which takes ~10-15 seconds each time. It really adds up with over 20 battles per dungeon I would estimate if you are taking the branching paths to find the item chests.

A lot of people say this game is too easy. I would not agree. I think it is challenging often enough. The boss fights sometimes required me to use ~8 healing potions a fight if my stack wasn't perfectly aligned elemental wise. If I didn't have so many potions I could not have beat some of thee bosses. One of the bosses had a pesky mechanic where it would explode on death and killed me multiple times even though I had defeated it. The challenge isn't necessarily a con I just feel I died sometimes when I played properly and strategically and didn't deserve a death.

    Miscellaneous:

-Even non-boss stacked mirages can give me quite a trouble and almost death if not 100% prepared elemental wise.
-Graphics are good. It's the vita so you're obviously not getting PS4 graphics but I am happy with that way the game looks. REALLY happy with the mirages unique designs as said previosuly.
-I wish there were more save spots. I like to play games in short bursts and this game does not allow it. One time I was 80 minutes between save points for one dungeon. Most of the time it's about 25 minutes between save points.

I have a lot more to say but this is long enough. The game is very similar to Pokemon as you might expect. I am a HUGE Pokemon fan so I am bias towards the Mirages aspect of the game. I like Final Fantasy games normally but don't love them like I do WOFF. This is one of the few games I can't put down and look forward to playing when I can. Only other game that has done this in recent years are Pokemon games and Rocket League.

I would highly recommend this game but it has it's flaws but aren't terrible enough to not purchase this. Anyone who likes games with at least a decent story and Pokemon-esque battling systems with better looking creatures than Pokemon, should buy this!

    A great Fan service game.

    The Good:
Simple lighthearted story (I was not expecting anything else)
    Great fighting system
    Voice over for all characters
    Nostalgia factor
    Great soundtrack

    The Bad:
Graphics seems blurry due to vita hardware

    Great game :)

Bad graphics and poor optimization makes the game feel extremely dated when compared to its ps4 counterpart. Vita just can't handle it with it's inferior and dated hardware.

World of Final Fantasy is not a bad game by any means, but there's a lot of issues, or quirks with the game that bug me, never enough to stop playing, but enough to make me question the intent of the developers.

Obviously, the developers felt inclined to put their own twist on the capture and battle genre. This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for how they went about doing it. To begin with, the game is a mix of realistic and chibi style artwork and for me personally, it clashes with the game. They should have went with one art style and stuck with it.

The combat system, while cute, is kind of stupid and annoying. While you collect monsters to help in battle, you don't really make up parties, instead you "stack" monsters either on top of you or under you. This stacking system increases your overall stats, while also exposing you to whatever weaknesses each monster has. The stacking system is a unique, although stupid concept, I really wish they would have went with just a standard party based combat system.

It seems like the entire game is bogged down with a bunch of unnecessary things, from the sphere based ability system, to different monsters having different skills, that all require you to progress in some way, it's just frustrating and annoying.

In order to get the full potential of the game is going to require almost 2GBs of extra data downloads. This is beyond annoying. I don't know about anyone else, but I really HATE having to download large files before even playing my game in order to be able to enjoy it to it's fullest.

It's a decent game and I think Final Fantasy fans and Pokemon fans alike can enjoy this game, it just feels like it could have been better, much better.

I’ve never actually played or completed a proper final fantasy game, but this didn’t stop me from absolutely loving this one, and while you don’t need to know anything about past games to enjoy, if you are already a fan of the universe, I feel you’ll enjoy this game even more as you do run into many memorable creatures and characters from many of the games, that even I recognized..
In World of Final Fantasy you play as twins Lann and Reynn who wake up with no memory, an empty town, an annoying creature named tama that says the every other the word, a mystery woman with a God complex, who tells them they are special… They are summonses that need to set out to recapture all of their mirages, get back their memory, and find their mom… fulfill a prophecy…
I cared very little for the story, though it did do a great job of pulling emotions out of me...
And the banter between the twins and tama who accompanies you on your journey like a Pikachu... is absolutely perfect and made me care for all 3…
I just felt like cut scenes and dialog between the characters you run into are far too long, that eventually it just over stays its welcome… The game would’ve benefitted with cut scenes being much shorter and more spaced out… but they are practically everywhere and go on forever… Strange thing to complain about... but when you’re not invested, it can be a drag…
What kept me going through this 30 hour journey was the very accessible and super addictive gameplay…
If you love Pokémon, you’ll love this game as the idea is fairly parallel…
Mirages are creatures you can capture… or in this case.. imrpism…
Unlike Pokémon, you don’t have to buy poke balls in this game… the first time you run into a new mirage you automatically get a prism required to capture it… Some mirages however require specific conditions to be able to capture, which you can learn as well as its elemental weaknesses by scanning it during battle if you choose…
Every mirage in this game has strengths and weaknesses, and as you capture them you can add up to 2 to your stack for both lann and reynn, meaning in total you bring 4 mirages into battle alongside you
    There’s a catch though… your stack can only consist of 1 small, 1 medium, and 1 large…
And Lann and Ryyne take up one of these slots… which is where changing size comes into play… Giant form which takes up the large slot and allows you to have a medium and small mirage stacked on top of you... and a chibbi form which takes up the medium slot and allows you to have a large mirage underneath you and a small mirage on top of you…
And when you add mirages to your stack their weaknesses hp, and strengths combine… so for example a water and fire stack would almost cancel weakness to water out…
This also gives you all of that characters moves in battles….
There surprisingly isn’t much emphasis on grinding in this game… as I didn’t stop to grind once… everything scaled with me.. So I just fought everything I crossed paths with as I progressed…
Battles are very simple, and turned based…
How quick your turn comes compared to your opponent though is based on agility... so some really fast enemies may go twice before you get to go again…
And in battle you can stack or un stack… of course both options having pros and cons…
The pro of unstacking is that you have 6 separate attack opportunities… the con however is that your characters are vulnerable as your hp is split into 3.. much easier to lose a party member in battle…
So I personally chose to play stacked each time…
During battle you can scan for weakness, use any of the characters special moves that cost action points so they can’t be spammed…, but my biggest complaint is that there is no indication of the type of damage a certain move will do while in battle.. you just get the name of the move and have to make an educated guess…
Thankfully the names are pretty great at giving you an idea.. but it would’ve been nice to know if you should waste so many action points on a move that would do less damage than a standard attack that costs 0…
But a really great tool in battles is that you can press a button to repeat attacks as well as hold a button to fast forward a battle, making inconvenient battles fly by… much appreciated..
And you can eventually call in champions that you meet through the story… to do insane damage or heal your party... you can carry up to three at a time… but you have to fill a meter to use them, so it’s wise to only use them when you’re in real trouble…
Which I didn’t find happened too much, as id rarely have to go to my item bag for healing…
And at the end of the battle you earn xp for not only the 6 that battles, but 8% spread across the 6 extra mirages you can bring along your journey as well….
And all of the extras are stored, and can be accessed at save points… so there’s no limit on how many you can own…
As your mirages level up they gain skill points.. And every single one of them has a unique skill tree where you can pick and choose which skills to boost and which moves to learn…
You can even unlock transfigurations in this tree, which are essentially evolved forms…
Practically all mirages can evolve into a larger form..
So when you’re ready to turn your medium to a large, you can shrink down to chili form and allow them to fill the large slot…
the greatest thing about transfigurations though is that none of the mirages are stuck that way…
You can make any of them smaller or larger at any time to help them fit the stack or your desired play style..
As again each transfiguration and mirages has its own skill tree…
You may prefer the medium set up over the large, so you can evolve them down at save points…
My biggest issue with the skill tree and transfigurations and the point I feel hurts the game the absolute most… what stops this game from being as fun and addicting as it possibly could is that far too many transfigurations have a question mark.. meaning you have to find a certain item, or that you have to run into that larger form in the wild before you can evolve it…
That’s super lame and can leave your character having dozens and dozens of skill points unspent because you haven’t ran into its larger counterpart..
This isn’t the case for a handful of mirages.. But it is for a majority of then... and its super annoying
and kills all reason to level grind if you chose to do so to unlock that form…
If a sequel were to happen… the game would greatly benefit with having transfiguration tied to a level, and only a level…
I understand some being tied to story progress… but for the others… keep it to a level... that’s what makes pokemon so fun… the maybe this time moment everytime you hit a new level…
I shouldn’t have to wait on the game to have a stronger party.. I should be able to make my party stronger on my own…
A really cool thing about transfigurations though is that some of the mirages have an XL version...
You can’t put an XL character in your stack, but you can call them into battle, which brings your party to 7 characters and in turn more than doubles your hp…
The overall level design can be a little frustrating though…
You know those annoying caves in Pokémon where you run into zubat after zubat?
Well those annoying caves are basically this entire game…
There’s no safe spots other than towns... if youre walking you have the chance to be thrown into a random battle… which can definitely get annoying in some of the maze like puzzle sections of the game…
The world also sort of forces you to have a great variety of mirages… This is where the extra 6 slot comes into play.. There are a handful of obstacles that require a mirage that can breather fire, smash, freeze, fly... just to name a few… So if youre a 1 type kind of person… its not going to work here.. you need variety… especially if you plan on reaching the chests in the game for pickups… that can of course just be bought instead… Overall World of Final Fantasy is a great game that’s super addictive and hard to put down.. Things start to fee; repetitive by the games end... but thankfully it takes a long time to get there… A few tweaks to transfigurations, information during battle, cutscnes that cut to the chase, and this series could become a master class of an experience… I give world of Final Fantasy an 8.5/10

20-04-2018 Having this on a go is cool, but I would like to play this on Switch, because VITA is a bit to weak to handle this game. There is a lot said about a story, gameplay and graphics so I wont repeat that those are very good - I will say that soundtrack is even better! Just like in old FF's.
20-12-2018 update: still havent finished it. Boring, tedious and slow. Story is well meh.

They literally cant say anything without this lets face it stupid jokes forced which is very anti-climatic. Optimalisation is also awfull, the game feels unfinished, locations are small and not a well thought. I still like soundtrack though but from my initial 10/10 im taking away some points.

You will find here many amazing mirages ("battle pets") which you can combine, level up them, teach them new skills, etc.... that is part which give you a lot of enjoyment. Story is pretty decent I would say... lighthearted but decent... you will meet many "old friends" if you are familiar with Final Fantasy series and that feels quite nostalgic but great. There are even some minor flaws. Graphics looks good but if you look closely you can that resolution of the game is not optimal and could be slightly better. Even the game has slight lag before some entrances and at the start of battles. These flaws are not big deal but to be fair I think it is worth to mention. Anyway.... World of Final Fantasy is huge success and it is definitely one of the best VITA games ever.

100% innovation on the developers part...WoFF shows that turn-based combat is still alive and well. The game retains elements of FF VII and VIII, as well as incorporating a monster capturing mechanic. One of the best Jrpgs for the Vita, the game is the defintion of what a Jrpg is.

World of Final Fantasy is an excellent RPG on the Vita. It's like a warm welcome to old fans but is also just as great for new fans looking to dabble in the world of Final Fantasy for the first time. This is a must have game for the Vita and could very well be the better Final Fantasy game this year.

If you can handle the game's slow pacing, World of Final Fantasy provides a good experiment to the classic formula. Given that Tose handles so many of Square Enix's ports, it's nice to see them be thrown a bone with an original title. I'd suggest this one while waiting for the eventual release of Final Fantasy XV.
