    Midnight Stage Fever!

I'm continuously surprised by the ways Atlus can come up with for an excuse to revisit Persona 4. I mean in addition to the first game we've had an animated series, a fighting game, a golden re-release of the original game, a Persona 3 crossover, another animated series based on the golden version of the game, a sequel to the fighting game, and now a dancing game.

This is a fact I would be far more upset with...were these new additions not consistently good.

Dancing All Night doesn't have nearly the depth of the original game or the epic scale of the arena games. What it has instead is solid rhythm-based game featuring Yu Narukami and the Investigation Team. The fact that it has on of the best story of any rhythm game is just a bonus. Now it does have it's flaws with the overuse of remixes, and the somewhat repetitive narrative structure. And honestly, as a final send of to the Investigation Team crew, I actually though it was a bit underwhelming, especially when compared to ultimax. But the flaws ultimately are negligibly due to the sheer style and passion that oozes from this game. It's nice to know that in this world of endless sequels and mediocre spin-offs, it's nice to see Persona 4's actually getting loving effort put into them.

While not something I would recommend to anyone not already a Persona 4 fan, dancing all night is by far the best Vita game to be released this year...which may not being saying much considering the most barren Vita release landscape, BUT it's still a must own for Persona 4 fans and honestly it's just a great musical game regardless. Whether it's worth a $50 asking price though, is something i'll have to leave up to you, but definitely pick it up when it gets an eventual price drop at least.

    THE GOOD
+ A Surprisingly well written, if smaller stakes, story.
    + Persona 4 music at it's best!

    THE MIXED
+/- The Remixes are good...there's just too many of them.

    THE BAD
    - As a final Persona 4 sendoff, Ultimax did it better.
    - The plot is a bit repetitive at first.

One of the amazing things about the Persona 4 series is how well it works outside of the RPG context. I have grown so attached to the characters that I have bought all related games - P4, P4 Golden, Arena, Ultimax, Persona Q and now Dancing all Night.

This rhythm game features the popular P4 characters in a new story about missing pop idols. This time, the Investigation Team fights using their dance moves instead of using their personas. The story starts kind of slow, and gets better with increasing play time, it is presented as a visual novel with rhythm game parts, think P4 Arena/P4 Arena Ultimax, with rhythm gaming replacing the fighting. In my opinion, the characters Kanami and Nanako steal the show, they are really cute and likable.

In addition, there is a free dance mode where you can focus on the rhythm gaming with harder difficulties and a variety of options to customize the characters.

The rhythm gaming is very solid, you either tap the PS buttons or the D-Pad according to the patterns, occasionally using the analog stick to hit "scratch notes", represented by circles. I like rhythm games quite a bit using the Persona 4 character makes it all the more fun. I love the "Fever" sections where a second character joins the main character in the dancing and boost the mood.

If you like Persona 4 and don't completely hate rhythm games, give this a try.

What at first seems like a cheap cash-in on one of the best RPGs of all time, Dancing All Night proves to be worthy of the Persona name, expanding its universe, enriching its story and throwing in a bunch of fantastic catchy tunes as the icing on this delicious cake.

Fun for the whole family, and made with the Persona 4 fanboi in mind, this is the (maybe? possibly?) final storyline in the Persona 4 portion of the game. I have been a Persona fan in general since release the of Persona 3 many years ago and it does pain me to write that. However the game is a good rhythm game and the story moves fairly well, even if it doesn't add too much to the overall story. Call it the epilogue to the epilogue's epilogue from the original game. And while it may not have been necessary to make the game, it's still a good time to catch back up with the characters. One disappointing thing is that they weren't able to bring back all of the original cast, most notably Rise because of her main role in the game. They found someone that sounds like the original voice actor but long time Persona 4 fans will be able to hear the difference in a instance.
But with the lack of games coming out on the Vita, this has been one of the few remaining series that you can depend on. Unfortunately I think the well has run dry on this series and I don't foresee anymore P4 games down the pipeline with P5 coming out next year. But it was a good run for the P4 series and I would bet we'll see them again in the future, maybe in a guest role in an inevitable P5 spinoff later on down the line.

It's a nice distraction if you are a fan of visual novels and you enjoyed Persona 4. Of course, the main reason for buying this is the rhythm game, which as I said, is pretty good overall, and the amount of customization for characters is pretty neat as well. #Riseisbae Expand

Honestly I had literally no idea how they were going to go with a persona 4 dancing game. People say it was going to go more along the lines of the Hatsune Miku Project Diva F games.... but oh hell no its not... Maybe for the nice visuals but its not really like that so don't go into this game expecting like hatsune miku.

People say it was going to go more along the lines of the Hatsune Miku Project Diva F games.... but oh hell no its not... Maybe for the nice visuals but its not really like that so don't go into this game expecting like hatsune miku.

With that said the dancing works like this
The screen is lad out in a circle and there are three button prompts on each side of screen to form some kind of circle. Basically the notes will line up to the triangle, circle or x buttons on the right side and the up, left, down directional pads on the left side. And it all works in kind of a circle... Sometimes you have to press a directional button and a circle button at the same time, or hold the button.... they even have this blue circle that goes around that you have to catch to get more combos. In the tutorial teddy will say its sort of like scratching a disk. Ya it makes that zzhh noise just for the atmosphere for the music game. Along with the blue circles there is the all important fever time. Its really different from what you're accustomed to.... so it might take a while to acualy get used to the controls.

    Free Mode -
Basically its a mode were just rock out to the music any way you want. After you complete a song in free mode you get a new track. (Oh btw I would recommend people to get the 2 free song DLC in the playstation store, there is also free costume DLC) Also when you complete a song, you get money that you can use to buy the usual rhythm game dance stuff... stuff like modifiers, costumes, and accessories that you can use in Free Mode.

Honestly I don't even know there was a story mode to this game. its kind of weird being it a rhythm game. But then again Persona 4 arena ultimax had a story mode too so I guess this one had to had one too.

    Story -
I really only completed the first chapter so i'm not exactly sure how long is the story.... but I don't expect it to be very long. The story is fully voice acted btw. Also the developers when and use the hero's original name, Yu Narukami because here he actually talks ... but I think they gave him the same voice as Tohru Adachi.... so it sounds kind of weird....
I'm not exactly sure who voices who, but some of the voices are a bit off like Rise Kujikawa, while some are pretty spot on from the original game like Naoto Shirogane.

The timeline for the story takes place a month after the epilogue of persona 4 golden.
The story revolves around you and your friends helping Rise Kujikawa with her comeback, so you're helping by becoming her backup dancers and training hard for the big music festival coming up.
But of course there is also a dark side to all this happy dancing....there has been rumors going around in the festival that if you go to the official website of the music festival on midnight..... yes midnight... you can see where I am going from here... that there is a video of a supposedly dead idol with her backup dancers in the back.. and if you finish the video you get taken to "the other side". So ya, its just another mystery to solve for the Persona 4 investigation cast.

    Song Selection -
I looked online and apparently there is really only 29 songs, with 4 DLC songs making it a total of 33 songs... but there is really suposed to be 13 DLC songs to be officially released but it's over time. Making its true total to around 42 songs.... that is if you have money to spare on the DLC. I don't really mind Song DLC, more songs means more bang for my buck to keep me more interested in this game.
But anyways.... that's not really what I wanted to talk about. I wanted to talk about the song selection. Are the songs really any good? I mean having a persona 4 dancing game is a weird enough spin off, but I don't really know what tracks they were going to use for this game. Mostly its like the full versions from persona 4 golden's music, with some jamming tracks that I never really heard. All the songs really had me jamming out to the beat, they made it work with the music they had.

Really if you're a Persona 4 golden lover and love rhythm games, then you need to pick it up.... if not really only for the pure fan service.
Btw I love the opening video for this game, everyone jamming along to the beat of the music and doing cool moves, it's pretty awesome. Teddy has some sweet moves lol.

C'MON AND LET'S GET YOU AND YOUR PERSONA DANCING TO THE BEAT!

It's a shame because the game is extremely good and you can see how it's not just a simple cash-in, but Atlus USA just HAD to ruin it with their arrogance and god awful voice acting. I feel bad rating this game lower solely due because of the bad job Atlus USA did, but it's inexcusable especially since those who want a dub are a very small vocal minority.

Saw Margaret dancing 10/10. But in all seriousness, really fun game for fans of the persona series I'm doubtful that the game will be as enjoyable for people without background knowledge of what's going on. Really enjoy the gameplay it's not as challenging as others in the category but that can be a draw for some.

STORY: An ok storyline but not great by any means.

GAMEPLAY: Fun gameplay. Challenging at times but difficulty can be tuned down if need be.

VOICE ACTING: Voice acted almost continously. Excellent voice acting for the most part.

MUSIC: Great music, the special box edition come with two cds which contain a total of about 60 tracks. About 10 of those are 20 second tracks that are a small solo.

    THE BAD:

Naoto has a new voice actor. Immediatly apparent if you are a Persona fan. Hated the change over myself. The new voice actor has more of a boy like tone. Similar to Ken from Persona Ultimax.

GAME LENGTH: Short story mode. About 10 hours total.

Thats about it. Hope it helps.

As Rise Kujikawa is set to make an explosive comeback into the showbiz world of idols there is an urban legend that’s got everyone worried: “go to a certain website at midnight and you’ll see a strange video. Those who watch it get taken away to the ‘other side,’ never to return.” It’s with this quick introduction that Persona 4 Dancing All Night will then throw you head first into a mystery that needs solving and songs that need to be danced to, and within minutes you will fall in love with it.

The story mode for Persona 4 Dancing All Night last eight chapters, with a few extras hidden away, and will take around seven to ten hours depending on your reading speed. The story mode is overall a fantastic addition to Persona 4 Dancing All Night as it gives it an edge over other rhythm games on the market in my eyes. Not only that but once again, it is a solid story experience that it worth going through. Take note though however that you will need to finish the story to unlock all the songs and some extras for Free Dance mode.

Gameplay in Persona 4 Dancing All Night is made up of notes and scratches that you need to hit throughout the many songs you’ll play. All of the gameplay within Persona 4 Dancing All Night is within the songs, with the only other section being the visual novel style scenes with characters to explain the story as you go. As you play a song you’ll need to use both the D-Pad and the buttons to hit the notes at the right moment as they move along the screen

Thankfully though a handful of items can be set before songs to help make your life a bit easier, or harder if you so wish, and boost your reward at the end of the song. In fact there are a lot of items to be picked up throughout the game along with outfits and other customisation options to which can be used in the game’s Free Dance mode.

And lastly it is worth taking a moment to point out that not only is Persona 4 Dancing All Night a beautiful looking and sounding game but also a game that runs perfectly on the Vita. With next to no load times and not a single drop in frames at any point, Persona 4 Dancing All Night is a strong game that makes sure not to waste any potential.

If you’re a fan of Persona, rhythm games or even just on the fence about this one make sure to pick up Persona 4 Dancing All Night as it will be truly worth your attention and give you hours of fun.

The track list is a bit short, but all the songs are really good and full of references, but this is a little problem: if you didn't play Persona 4, the special connection with the characters is weak and your experience will be a little worse than others who has played the original game.

The controls are simple (only 6 buttons) but the system has a very interesting depth. The notes move to the 6 buttons (up, left, down, triangle, circle and cross) and the player has to press them in the correct order and time. The feeling of rhythm is really good and there are four modes of difficulty (All Night may be a nightmare) and all type of players can enjoy it, only finishing the game or doing a perfect score in all songs (this is a very difficult task).

A very interesting game if you have played Persona 4 or you like rhythm games, but if you don't comply any of these, the game may be not recommended for you.

Going from an internationally RPG to a dancing game is a bold move. But that is no problem for fearless Atlus who suddenly throws itself in the select club of ryhtm games, sending Persona 4's party onto the dancefloor.

Persona 4 Dancing All Night won't party its way to success by merely copying the competition. The disco-themed opening and menus make it very clear : we're far from the Vocaloid universe here. The general design is a gigantic tribute to the 70s'. Among other curiosities, the accessory shop is old-fashioned teleshopping, the “collection” menu is a shelf full of LPs and listening to music is done by a good old jukebox. This one works extremely well, because it doesn't when the Vita enters sleep mode.

Other specificity : nearly all the songs are in English. Project Diva players will be thunderstruck but they will no less appreciate some very good compositions. Time to Make History is the best one while Snowflakes, Shadow World, Best Friends (+ another one I'll be talking about later) are enjoyable in their own style thanks to their lively tempo. That said, there are no more than 20 songs original songs or so in-game, and there are a lot of remixes of some to make the Free Dance mode a bit longer. On a character point of view, Persona 4 Dancing All Night is rather unsatisfying since every song can only be played with the preset character : no way to experience your favorite music with your favorite character. That is a real pity, and even more so when you consider that Atlus's game displays peerless graphics and animation. Still, the choreographies look a little too classic compared to the ideas behind Projet Diva's clips or even the artistic side of IA/VT Colorful's.

On a personal level, I am appalled by the fact that Naoto show up in her Persona 4 version only. I know this makes no sense but let me explain : as I do things the other way around, I got into the Persona series by reading the manga called Persona X Tantei Naoto. So from there in my mind, Shirogane Naoto looks like that. Therefore, if they show her dressed like a boy, speaking with a boy's voice, in a rhythm game where visual and sound aspect are dramatically important, I say NO. Beyond that and that's rare enough, the Japanese voice cast of Persona 4 Dancing All Night is not that convincing.

I'm not that good at Persona 4 Dancing All Night, but I would say that the game system is not completely so either. The buttons you have to push are displayed on the edge of the screen and the moving are neutral. It is very confusing and you also have to manage the scratch with the L/R buttons at the same time! Needless to say that you get lost in the first hours, but fear not, because as always in the genre the brain naturally adapts to the new interface with some training. Eventually, it is not difficult to master at least the normal mode. Huge mistake : the lack the colors on icon. If Sony implemented damn forms and different colors on the Playstation buttons, it's not just for show! All this make Persona 4 Dancing All Night less intuitive than the competition.

Undoubtedly an added value compared to its rivals, the story mode in Persona 4 Dancing All Night is long enough to keep you busy for more than a dozen of hours. Several people went missing as an eerie video mysteriously airs on the web at midnight. Come to help Rise for her comeback in the idol business, Persona 4's team get thrown into a parallel world where they will intend to pin the culprit and rescue the victims. Even if it does seem really dull at times, especially by its stiff structure and uneven story-telling, the narrative contains enough humor and suspense to renew its interest, let alone the miscellaneous direction in cut-scenes and the surprising illustrations.

I was telling you that Persona 4 Dancing All Night was cutting itself from the Vocaloid craze, but that's actually not completely accurate. Because if you talk dancing and ryhtm on PSVita, Hastune Miku is never too far. Atlus will market a dozen of DLCs priced from 0 to 800 yens (count up to 5-6€ in EU, 2 of them being free). The Heaven Remix that features the virtual singer is violent techno hardstyle served by explosive highs, but still very interesting to play and listen. The modeling and animation of Miku trenscends everything you could see in Project Diva : it's so bloody GORGEOUS! Marie's DLC song, Break Out Of.. appears as classic pop music. Not especially a wonder in my honset opinion, it is nevertheless quite the challenge because icons go counterclockwise, despite the rest of the game keeping to clockwise rotation.

Even though Persona 4 Dancing All Night is definitely a enjoyable experience, it remains “weaker” than other rhythm games on Sony's handheld. It does have a stye of its own, a interesting story and a decent tracklist, but misses the cue in its game system and overall content.

If there's one thing missing, it's the choice of P4- the story in this game is linear and pays an homage to the original story rather than doing its own, so one cannot expect the same level of depth.

That's about it for criticisms though- and frankly I don't think a spin off is going to be overly deep- I wouldn't take points away from Mario Kart because it focuses solely on racing (not that Mario had much story, but you get the point).

The game has great, complete voice acting, vibrant graphics, excellent controls and is far more entertaining than I'd expected a rhythm game could be.

I'd recommend giving it a try unless you're staunchly against rhythm games- though, do make sure to play Persona 4 first, chances are if you don't enjoy P4 you won't see much to this game (unless you really love rhythm games I suppose.)

Got the platinum, enjoyed every minute of it- would happily play again.

The themes are similar to those of Persona 4, with a little more emphasis on individuality and self expression. Yu Narukami and his friends are back up dancers for Rise Kujikawa and are preparing to support her in her come back performance. The plot develops as Yu, his friends, and other idols are pulled into a mysterious midnight stage similar to the midnight channel, but where no fighting is allowed. It is in this place where the characters must use the power of dance to fight off shadows. As cheesy as this sounds, the game does a great job further exploring themes in Jungian psychology that were present in the original game. The dance sequences are well choreographed, and have an amazing soundtrack to match. One of my biggest complaints is for a rhythm game, it doesn't have nearly enough songs. I personally love each and every track, but for a fifty dollar title, I would definitely expect more game play. However, this game is focused mostly on story, which I think it does a great job delivering; although some of the dialogue segments mid game felt slow and repetitive. Ultimately, if you're a Persona 4 fan, you'll love how well they've honored and brought back the original cast, as well as kept true to many of the original themes. However, if you've never played persona 4, there are too many nuances that you won't pick up on, and many references to the original game that won't make sense to you. I personally loved this game, but be aware that this is a niche titled designed for a specific audience. Expand

Music is spot on! I like dancing games and this one is so entertaining. I didn't think it will have a story though. Nice one.

Highly recommended for all Vita owners or fans of the Persona series.

this was the first rythm game I have ever played and I was happily surprised.

I loved seeing all the persona 4 characters come back! The story is good, the game is fun overall and the graphics are beautiful for a vita game. It looked like something I would see on a switch.
Overall if you like persona 4 and want to see another story or just like the dancing type.
    This is an enjoyable experience!n

Not amazing, but passable. This game does, however, rely on a lot of knowledge of Japanese idol culture which will not be understood well by many English speaking players.

    Characters: 1
While not super well developed, the new girls are fun and they do try to make sure their is variety to them.

The narrative is on par with what you would expect from a Persona 4 spin-off. It mixes Persona's plot and universe with the gameplay of games like Hatsune Miku.

While the narrative is not as great as Persona 4 Golden (as expected from a spin-off) and the gameplay is also not quite as challenging as Hatsune Miku's it still manages to be a very fun and worthwhile game on itself. The story gets a bit repetitive but it hopefully does not drag out. Good game, definitely won't disappoint fans of the original P4.

Simple game, but it makes you want to play again and again for its great soundtrack, based on a great game that, if you have played, you will want to play with its characters, only this time, dancing.

It includes its own story and that is always appreciated, even if it is a little crazy.

Very enjoyable if you like this type of games.

Persona 4 Dancing is a weird game.

That doesn't mean it's bad though. The songs are pretty good, most of them being remixes from Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden. The songs are generally easy enough for people who aren't used to rhythm games to beat them. However, I missed a bit of difficulty on the story mode. The songs are generally easy enough for people who aren't used to rhythm games to beat them. However, I missed a bit of difficulty on the story mode. For someone who's never played this type of rhythm games before, I never experienced any difficulty throughout the game, getting at least a Brilliant! in all songs. But this is fixed in Free Dance with the Hard and All Night difficulties.

The story was a good spinoff of P4G's storyline, featuring the lovely cast that the original game has. The new characters are fine. Nothing too special, they just didn't get enough character development (aside from Kanami). I like the idea of dancing being used to transmit the character's emotions. However, I feel like the story was lacking that "Persona" style. Being a visual novel with fixed dances in between didn't help it either. But it was still a decent and short story that can be completed in 1-2 days easily.

The game's got a lot, and I mean A LOT of microtransactions, but thankfully most of them are just costumes for your characters. There are 3 DLC songs featuring 3 characters that don't appear in P4D's story, but you won't be missing anything if you don't play them.

In conclusion, Persona 4: Dancing all Night is a good idea of a spinoff and a great introduction to rhythm games, but lacks story/character development, difficulty for the more experienced players and the things that make Persona a unique series, such as Social Links.

In this game there are cosmetics to unlock with money that you get from completing songs and if you unlock every cosmetic you unlock a new difficulty called “All Night” which makes every incredibly hard, which normally it would make the game not very fun to play, but this mode is just addictive, a full clear in this game is called a “King Crazy” (which you get without missing a note or scratch and not getting a “Good” rating on any notes) and if you get into the game enough you will want to get it on every song on the “All Night” difficulty.

DLC songs such as “True Story” and “The Fog” enhance on the “All Night” difficulty and makes the game very hard to even get past 1/3 of the song, but, like I said before you still want get a “King Crazy” on these songs. The story is also amazing, it is after the events of Persona 4 Golden’s true ending. The main character this games story follows is “Kanami **** which is a minor character brought up in Rise’s Social Link in Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden and a side character “Minoru Inoue” which played a major role is Rise’s social link. This games story is definitely a must play for Persona fans that want to know what is happening with the Persona 4 crew after the time skip in Persona 4 Golden.

This is definitely an amazing rhythm game for Persona fans and rhythm game fans alike. It is definitely a must play on the PS Vita and PS4.

Story is far too long and has an absurd amount of exposition for what this game is but you can't beat the song selection there are no bad songs in this game and the general movements and animations are awesome. The one that started it all!

Not for everyone, Dancing All Night will suit players who love rhythm action enough to overlook a lack of content, or who love Persona 4 enough to forgive the length and leaden pace of its script. [Jan 2016, p.123]
