This game was recommended on many lists for must-play Vita games, visual novels in particular. I inevitably heard that the first game is not as good as the other, which should've been my first red flag. The art is a little old styled & it's fine, plus the voice acting is fairly well done. I inevitably heard that the first game is not as good as the other, which should've been my first red flag. The art is a little old styled & it's fine, plus the voice acting is fairly well done. The problem is the game itself; it's godawful. It's so nonsensical & stupid that it feels like it's insulting my intelligence. It puts many animes to shame in terms of ridiculousness. The protagonist of this game might be in the top 5 of which I despise the most. I wanna say based off how many times I tried booting this game up that I got maybe 5 hours in & it was agony the whole time. I hated basically every character & every situation that occured. The only way I'd ever consider getting to the "good" parts is if I was getting paid to do so. Clearly effort was put into these games but I don't want to suffer to get to the good stuff. Expand

This is not a game for the faint of heart. It’s offensive, perverted, and subtly violent at times during its opening moments. It’s also adorable, funny, and heartwarming in equal measure. It’s a complicated beast that rewards those who persevere. While far from perfect, it lays the foundation for one of the most epic sci-fi stories ever told. There is nothing else like it.

Classic trilogy or not, the idea that you have to sink 40 or 50 hours into a game before it gets really good is kind of insane. By itself (or, I guess, going by the two games included here), Muv-Luv falls a little short of being a must-buy…though, at the same time, if you want to check out the third game (and I do after playing through Muv-Luv Unlimited), it’s probably unavoidable. So — buyer beware.

Muv-Luv packs in two visual novels for your pleasure on the go. The first, a basic high school romance, offers you the chance to date your high school sweetheart. The second, Muv-Luv Unlimited, has you fight alongside them to defend Earth against an alien menace.
