With it's retro graphics, sound effects, and difficulty it's clear that the game is trying to be a throwback to the great old school platformers of NES/SNES era. Unfortunately despite being fun it doesn't quite live up to some of the better 2D platformers it's trying to mimic. This is due to the fact that it's difficulty is either artificial or cheap. The majority of my deaths came from instant bottomless pit or spike deaths, and the game isn't afraid to block off small ledges that are necessary to progress with enemies that are right in the way while you juggle disappearing platforms. Remarkably though the game almost never managed to frustrate me. Yes it's deaths can sometimes be cheap and unfair, but overall it's not a terribly difficult game in it's regular levels. Which means it's an enjoyable, if subpar, 2D platformer.

The game also packs quite a bit of content. You get secret levels and a mirror world to play around with that are more challenging than the regular ones, and in order to truly beat the game you'll have to beat all of it's challenges and collect everything. So if you're willing to stick around it will take you a while to 100% it. It's not the best platformer out there, but if you grew up during the NES and SNES era of platformers you should find something to enjoy here. Just don't expect it to live up to The better platformers of the era like Mario or Donkey Kong.

This game has a very cute art style.
And that's the only thing it has going for it. As another user mentioned on here, this game requires players to practically memorize the moves they will make down to the very last pixel, and that in and of itself does not require any real skill, and thus makes this game extremely boring. The movement mechanics also feel too sluggish for my liking.

To be clear, I have completed everything there is to do in the game. I did it for the trophies and to feel like this game wasn't a complete waste of my money.

This is a very simplistic platformer which could be great for killing time, just don't expect anything groundbreaking or fresh.. The main gimmick in this one is that you can jump from the background to the foreground and vise versa. This has however been done many many times in other games so its far from original and other games also do it better then this. The main gimmick in this one is that you can jump from the background to the foreground and vise versa. This has however been done many many times in other games so its far from original and other games also do it better then this. Particularly when you go into the background the screen doesn't shift there and this could be problematic if you are sight impaired. You can eventually unlock "powerups" which are not that creative as they will only either allow you to hover longer then you already could, or jump a bit higher. The good thing about this game is that it does have a fair amount of levels in it but I have a hard time seeing anyone playing it in one sitting anyways as it gets rather boring and tedious after awhile. The levels are straightforward and either tough as balls or way too easy. The best thing about this game is the music which is chiptune themed and very well done. Unfortunately for the full price I cannot recommend Mutant Mudds Deluxe, it is free on PS Vita now so try it if you have nothing else to do. Expand

Basically, it all comes down to this: there's no shortage of controller-throwingly difficult platformers on the Vita and the PS3, and a large number of them are better than this one is. Go for one of those ones instead, because this one just isn't worth your time.
