Put on your magic glove and defend your kingdom from the Krinkle menace with this tense tower defense title.

Put on your magic glove and defend your kingdom from the Krinkle menace with this tense tower defense title.

"Krinkle Krusher" is a story-driven tower defense game where you play as a Magician using your powers, along with a magic talking glove "Mitty", to drive back the evil creatures known as the Krinkles, sent by the Krinkle King to take over the Kingdom.

On one end of the map you have the invading Krinkle, on the other end, there is the Mage and Mitty holding down the fort and casting spells to keep the dark forces at bay. Those of you who have read my previous reviews may recall a title from a few months ago called "Get off my Lawn" about a cranky old man with a shotgun trying to keep literall "aliens" off his property. The concept here is similar, only this game is way more difficult. I would even go as far as to say this is the hardest tower defense game I've played. This is the "Flappy Bird" of tower defense.
Visually, the game is nice to look at, the 3D graphical style is very well done here. The way the player views the map feels a bit limited though, only being able to go up and down. It would have been nice to be able to do 360 rotation, or pinch zoom in/ out. Just for the sake of detail.
The spells to protect the kingdom are mostly performed via touchscreen. With a tap, you have the abilities to send bolts of lightening down on the enemy. Later on you can draw a line straight across to create a line of fire that will burn and deal damage to the Krinkle menace. As the levels progress you will unlock other abilities, such as being able to summon a food cart as a distraction while you prepare your next attack. Using the face buttons, you can switch up these attacks any way you choose. But be careful! If you over use any of your magic abilities they can become temporarily disabled.

    Good: visually pleasing, easy controls
Bad: a bit too challenging, too early on
Verdict: any collector of tower defense games will appreciate and enjoy this gem. The difficulty spikes early on, but the fun out weighs the challenge. Once you master all the magic spells, you won't be able to put it down!

Even though Krinkle Krusher doesn't have an overly unique take on the Tower Defense mechanic, it's still a fun enough example of it - and works well to cater to both genre veterans and newcomers alike.

The reward for spending more time with Krinkle Krueger, after all, is…well, spending more time with Krinkle Krueger. And unless you've got a thing for games that actively try to annoy you, I don't get why that would be very appealing to anyone.
