Borderlands 2 at it's core is a fun, time killing, grindy, looter shooter. This port however is a disaster. Frame rate constantly drops to single digits. Like other resource heavy Vita games, it does not allow you to adjust brightness so when the night cycle rolls around you will be playing blind. You can't even access the trophy app because the game needs the extra memory to run. Trying to shoot with any bit of accuracy with the Vita's analog numbs is next to impossible. The devs didn't even bother porting the last two DLC packs to this version. It's a great time if you like this style of game but play it on any other platform. This port SUCKS! Expand

Borderlands 2 on psvita, I liked it, of course there were problems with console overheating, friezes, crashes, etc., at school it is interesting to play those in Brawl Stars, it's just Parasha, got to William, and then abandoned it somehow, then downloaded again 6 days ago, ps5 port will be)

Since I can't give this game a 7.5, but feel it's closer to an 8 than a 7, it gets an 8 from me. I have this game on the PC, xbox 360, and PS3, and have played it on all three systems, but mostly the PS3 version, which is the first version I had, and the one I played this game the most on. To me, all the versions are at least solid 9's for me, but the PS3 version is a no-questions-askedSince I can't give this game a 7.5, but feel it's closer to an 8 than a 7, it gets an 8 from me. I have this game on the PC, xbox 360, and PS3, and have played it on all three systems, but mostly the PS3 version, which is the first version I had, and the one I played this game the most on. To me, all the versions are at least solid 9's for me, but the PS3 version is a no-questions-asked 10/10 for me. It crammed so many of my favorite gaming elements into one package: looting, fps/action role playing (lots of character building with all the upgrade tree choices, attribute enhancements with the "badass tokens" as you earn as you complete the games many challenges... sure, it's kind of rpg lite, but more rpg than, say, a Bioshock type game), looting, dungeon crawling, oh, and have I mentioned LOOTING!!!

This game has enough looting to make any Diablo/Blizzard or Elder Scrolls/Bethesda game fan creaming his pants! The game has literally MILLIONS of different possible types of guns! It uses procedural code with randomly generating algorithms to piece together a large variety of brands, models, builds, element effect, mods, etc just with the physical attributes of the guns, but also pieces together random strings to generate different (often times hilariously obviously randomly generated, yet still badass) names for each gun... Of course this is for non-uniques, as many extremely rare and all legendary weapons are not randomly generated...only the locations they are spawned in are, when they aren't a predetermined mission reward. And enemies you take down are even all spawned using (and thereby eventually dropping for your possible taking) a unique weapon. And there's no telling what other rare or powerful goodies they might ever drop!

This deep take the devs took on the game's looting system is just the beginning of what makes this game one of my all-time favorites. While one of the few downsides for me is that game's story and characters aren't the most compelling or memorable for me, it's the overall wacky and humorous tone of it all that sort of makes the sum of all it's somewhat meh parts actually add up to a pretty interesting world, and even if some of the characters feel stiff, they are still hilarious. Some of them are even quite memorable (particularly a certain crazy tweaked out little genius inventor lab rat girl, and this morbidly obese hillbilly cousin of your inbred mechanic. There is enough there in the wackiness department to make the world engrossing in its own VERY distinct and unique way. The cartoonish cell shaded graphics seem to turn off many, but for me, it's just another part of the tone. And I find many areas have wonderful art design in this game.

But above all, in the PS3 version, was the GAMEPLAY was so fast-paced and nonstop, yet it rarely got bogged down by frame rate drop issues. This is where I start my contrast-critique of this vita port, as contrasted to its PS3 version. ALLLL those other things I mentioned loving about the PS3 version (and ostensibly from what I played of the PC and XBOX 360 versions) are still absolutely THERE, all packed tightly and solidly into this little handheld version. BUT, the GAMEPLAY... oy... well that's where mostly everyone's main gripes come from. And while I don't agree that it should be enough to detract from how impressive all that other stuff all being there in the vita version is, I can't just stick my head in the sand on this one just because I'm such a hardcore self-admitted fanboy of the game.

Not only during pretty much most enemy encounters involving more than like five or six enemies at once, but also during your time in areas full of NPCs -- namely sanctuary -- you will notice some JARRING moments of frame rate drop. I don't feel like it breaks the game for me, because I love the sum of all it's parts enough to forgive this annoyance, it's sad that I have to give one of the few 10/10 games for me a 7.5, rounded up for metacritic.

What can I say, I still love this, and still, after playing it, do not in any way regret hunting it down until I could find it for as low as $18 (vita games are hard to find in the US now due to limited prints, and finding one under $30 is getting harder by the day). But yeah, the visual downgrade isn't such a drag for me, as I still think it looks good. Honestly, the only gripe I can make about this is that frame rate. And yeah, the touchpad on the back making me throw grenades haphazardly until I found a way to comfortably play without this being an issue was annoying until I got used to it. So yeah, not the port this game deserves, but hell, until we get a switch version, it's the only way to play Borderlands on the Go, in the palms of your hands.

As far as I'm concerned, Borderlands 2 is one of my favourite games of all time: great shooting mechanics, fun RPG/FPS hybrid gameplay, and an absolute ton of things to do, not even including the density of DLC expansions. On those merits alone, it's great... on home consoles and PC at least. On the Vita, it's a slightly different story. Right off the bat though, the one thing I am impressed with in this version is the fact that the entire game was made playable on a handheld system such as the PS Vita, no cutbacks on main game content or anything! Because of that though, the performance of this version massively sets it back from every other version of the game (having played the PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC versions of the game): lower draw distance, noticeably lower model detail, highly inconsistent frame rates, periodical crashes (mostly from occasionally entering your inventory, which sucks because you'll be going in and out of it A LOT). All of these plague the Vita version, which is a shame, because it does slightly hamper the frantic pacing of the game, compared to other versions. To say it's unplayable however, is an overstatement; it's still good fun, it's portable Borderlands to put it simply. It just should have had more time or effort for refinement, even if it meant further graphical sacrifice, or otherwise. Expand

Honestly I have tried to like this game, it's was meant to be a big moment for the vita but I just can't get into this. Controls feel slow and jerky, graphics are ok and frame rate is an issue. These flaws are rather irritating. Playing through the same story line 3+ times just to get to the level cap is ridiculous. It is better if you have the DLC but I feel that DLC shouldn't be necessary for a less repetitive experience.

I haven't taken this game out of my Vita since it launched. The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score is because there is only half the DLC available. I adore the cross-save function with the PS3 version. I have one of each character leveled up to at least six, with my Psycho at level 41 and playing TVHM.
