It's casual unfriendly. It's called Master Duel so if you are anything else but master I would not recommend this game. I did not enjoy duels not one but as casual who just want to recall some of the past yu gi oh glory :( Expand

Started out pretty good. You get some starter decks from playing the solo mode but as soon as you're in PvP duels. It's the usual pay to win bs I've come to expect from Yu-Gi-Oh. When you can summon multiple tribute monsters in your opening turn who needs the heart of the cards you've already won.

The game didn't need much introduction to make me download it instantly. The small size was a plus that got me into the game faster than I thought I would get.

I'm an old school Yu-Gi-Oh player, I used to play at school (circa 2001) and then years later with a Synchro deck (circa 2010). If I'm confused with this experience, I can't imagine kids who are absolutely new to the game.

If I'm confused with this experience, I can't imagine kids who are absolutely new to the game. There are a few tutorials, but they fail to teach some key fundamentals, specially about the new decks like Pendulum. I'm absolutely overwhelmed with information and it scares me from going into the game again because it's too much of a commitment from a game I intend to play casually.

That's basically it, it's not casual friendly like other card games. So if anyone is looking for a casual Yu-Gi-Oh game maybe Duel Links is still the best option.

Regarding the rest of the game's aspects, the animations can be a little slow and cut the game's intensity. The connections aren't great, even after the hype making games slow overall.

Main menu for some reason always has to sync for a few seconds before we can use it. And most menu actions take a few seconds as well, making the experience not as satisfying for someone who's used to fast menus on PS5.

I like the cards resolution, they look good, but it's a shame after all these years we still can't see the monsters coming out of the cards like in the anime. I understand it's not cheap, but it's basically what all fans expect, and most got disappointed. Duel Links still mimics that aspect way better than Master Duel.

I was hoping this would be something else, but in the end of the day this is a game focusing pro players, and I know there are a few of them out there, but it's not for me. And it fails again because pro players have other demands the game didn't deliver. So it's a lose/lose situation, and I believe Master Duel still didn't decide what audience to target due to the questions in their survey. Hope they find their way and explore the game's capabilities.

But since the hype disappeared so fast, they should focus on those pro players needs.

Don't play this game if you're not willing to copy the same meta decks everyone else is playing.
Once you're at Gold V you won't win a single duel without any meta FTK (first turn kill) deck.
It's a shame, Yugioh used to be the best Card game out there.
Additionally it's heavily suffering from microtransactions.

Good simulator of the actual card game, you're given quite a lot of gems easily so can build the deck you want, the problem is that the actual card game isn't very good, games are over in a turn or two and each turn takes 5 minutes

Master Duel is my first experience for Yu Gi Oh and I genuinely enjoy it. The game helps make sense of things and is accesible to people who not only play Yu Gi Oh consistently, but for people who wish to get into it themselves.

For a yugioh sim this is top tier. Gives enough currency to make like 4-5 decks from the get go and that's enough imo. My only issues with this game are with Yugioh in general.

Yugioh Master duel is a free game that is fun with playing cards. To begin, loved the game so much that I played it twice, once in the PS5 and another time on the PS4. So, acquired 2 platinums for it. Secondly, for fans of yugioh recommend it to be played but the only negative is that the competition is tough but doable. A solid basis for digitising the card game across platforms, presentation aside. You’ll need to love the card game though, or you’ll be left in the dust. [Issue#12, p.94]

If I could grade Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duels in Magic Terms, I’d give it a Sideboard B. If you love Yu-Gi-Oh, this is probably the pinnacle of the game’s experience, with modern flourishes and easy access to a huge repository of cards. However, if you’re not a hardcore fan and just fancy dipping your toes in the water, this game is probably not for you — by all means give it a chance, but don’t be surprised if you find its complexities impossible to overcome.

Master Duel has all that it takes for a Yu-Gi-Oh! video game to work: let's hope Konami is going to support this one for a very long time.
