A spooky adventure where Vasilisa's journey and service to Baba Yaga consist of a series of mini-games with a variety of gameplay mechanics.

You will go on a journey with Vasilisa to the land of the dead to obtain the power of fire, which only Baba Yaga can give. Vasilisa already has a magical helper - a doll given by her mother. But this is not enough to deal with the evil stepmother. It is necessary to pass the tests of the mistress of the forbidden forest and prove to her that Vasilisa is worthy to receive the power not only from her mother, but the mother of all mothers - Baba Yaga.

Vasilisa and Baba Yaga is a clever retelling of a Russian folktale. Whilst it doesn't reach far with its levels of interactivity, it does do enough to justify making this a game. Combat, stealth and the other activities aren't complex but they help give the narrative some extra stakes. There's a great sense of dread in this game from the gloomy soundtrack and particularly jagged visuals. I love the bedtime story approach to the narration. I think a younger audience would really enjoy it, so long as reading subtitles aren't a problem.

The beautifully drawn world of Vasilisa and Baba Yaga is enchanting, but it can't disguise the overly simplistic and repetitive gameplay. Ultimately, it's a visually interesting yet forgettable experience.
