I have waited for years in hope of TopSpin returning in all its glory and boy, has it delivered! A deep and robust career mode and an addictive online serving of tennis really make this game special. Coupled with gorgeous visuals and stunning sound design, this is the quintessential tennis video game. Some wonky currency issues and at times grindy levelling can hinder the experience slightly, but overall this game has reinvigorated my love for tennis in the real world and in the gaming arena. I’ll see you on the court!

Welcome back! TopSpin 2K25 delivers superb gameplay on the court and is just as easy to get into yet challenging as ever before. The small roster of talents harms the overall impression. Same goes for the career, that feels a bit outdated at times.

Some rallies can become a bit sluggish, but all in all, Top Spin 2K25 is a versatile and accessible simulation with a successful career for solo players and numerous opportunities to play online and offline.

If you’re a tennis fan, this is currently the best tennis game available — no doubts about it. At least on console, anyhow. No other tennis game plays as good as TopSpin 2K25, which somewhat makes up for its downfalls. We can only hope that 2K improves this title post-launch, speeding up career progress, making it easier to play against friends online and making MyCareer accessible even when the servers are down. And when the inevitable sequel arrives, we’ll accept a visual boost and some other upgrades, too.

2K comes out swinging with TopSpin 2K25, with this being the return to the popular tennis franchise. Presentation and gameplay meet the 2K Sports' standards that fans of the games come to expect, and TopSpin fans can feel comforted in the fact that the game still feels like it should. Controls ask you for more precision and discipline than the previous entries did, but this makes for a more satisfying experience once you nail down the control scheme. Some visual oddities, a rare gameplay simulation, and the lack of depth in setting customization ask you to forgive a few things along the way. Nonetheless, the experience far outshines any competition and leaves the door wide open for future success with a formidable foundation the franchise can firmly stand on.

If what you're looking for is to play tennis, TopSpin 2K25 is the best way to do it in 2024. If you want something more or to play casually, the presence of microtransactions and the limited variety of professional players (which is not the case for the stadiums!) do not justify the price to pay.

They say form is temporary, class is permanent. And there is a baseline class to Top Spin, a great-feeling tennis game underneath any of the other complaints. But it's in very poor form, making unforced errors, double-faulting, and missing volleys. It's hard to recommend Top Spin 2K25 when there are so many simple features missing and a sour-tasting battle pass, but it's hard not to recommend Top Spin 2K25 when it's the best rally to rally tennis game I've ever played.
